Are hand destruction decks still viable?

I think it is about time I sac 30 SR/UR for a Lv 8 Synchro generic in my PUNK.
My only option other than Borreload Savage Dragon is Chaos Ruler, lol, and on its first debut in my PUNK deck (not really, I'm already in winning position), I hit no light or dark with its effect...

Maybe I'll unwisely spend some gems on some Ritual Beasts...

No, because ripping cards from the opponent's hand is considered too powerful these days (especially with the speed of the game and how card advantage is so important) so any cards that can do it are either banned outright or have strict restrictions that make them hard to use/abuse. Some decks might have individual hard-once-per-turn effects that can rip one card in the opponent's hand (like Labrynth having Lovely Labrynth's effect that can destroy a card on the field or in the hand) but it's basically impossible to build a deck focused around ripping cards out of the opponent's hand.

The only deck that can kind of sort of pull off a good hand destruction combo some of the time is Trickstars, with the meme-worthy combo of Trickstar Reincarnation (their limited-to-1 trap card) and an unsearchable handtrap in Droll & Lock Bird.

If the opponent adds a card to their hand during their turn to make your Droll live, you can activate your set Reincarnation, then chain Droll to it. Doing it that way, they banish their hand due to Reincarnation, but Droll makes it so they don't draw to replace their hand. But this combo only works well in Trickstars because they can search Reincarnation (other decks would need to hard draw a limited to 1 card) and that deck is terrible these days outside of this one meme combo. Plus, this combo only works when going 1st, only works if you hard draw Droll, only works if your opponent plays an effect that makes Droll live, and can still easily be countered by the commonly seen Ash Blossom even if everything sets up perfectly.

There is a new tech for Purrely going around that allows them to end on double noir plus UDF. Its kinda gross. It uses a Ghostrick XYZ engine to do so.

Made my way into making Lab, which I find such an interesting deck. Also been loving Scareclaw, which messes with people a lot.

Purrely is the deck to beat and didnt need a new combo line XD

Labrynth is so fun. I love having a trap-focused deck that doesn't depend on floodgates to win and doesn't totally fall apart when forced to go second.

Yeah, Purrely players cooked up some serious goo during this DC. It's a menace now.

I absolutely hate Kashtira. So I plotted up a deck specifically to counter it and its been very effective.

Fossil Dyna, Jowgen, and plenty of negates and defense to keep them on the field. If they cant get any Kashtiras out via special summoning, the entire deck is a brick. Currently in Plat 2

I totally feel you on Lab. Its not an easy deck to play though. Im so bad at when to flip my traps sometimes. Ive recently gone back to having gamma in the deck too.

Everyone I play against is having other worldly levels of disruption on top of crazy boards. Finally got a 4 streak with Scareclaw to burst into plat 2. I was learning lab which wasnt allowing me to climb

I hate Lab. I just played against one and had two Jowgen's on the field and a Inspector Boarder. Dude had no shot at winning that duel haha

People like you are why I play Evenly Matched in so many decks

A lot of the top players, including Josh and some of his friends have all agreed that Purrelys were currently the best deck. But they said that it's probably tiresome to play and duels would take too long, so it wouldn't be great for DC. But yeah seems Purrelys are willing to take longer with the turn if it means they basically win every single coin toss wins

I have had a few people try the Evenly Matched strat on me today. That duel against the Labs actually used Evenly Matched twice! Luckily I have a ton of Solemn Judgments and Dark Bribes to make sure my cards stay protected.

It's just so much more fun to play like 3 cards a turn instead of 20 or more like some decks do. I just like the idea of throwing down one card, and ruining any strategy the other player may have had.

Also that means I dont need to buy anything so I can waste all my gems hunting for my Royal Finish Necrovally. Have about 13k gems and 450 in SR and UR parts each.

Btw the Ritual Beast support is even crazier than I realized. I missed SO many small points that make this utterly crazy:

The new fusion can freaking contact fuse with stuff in the grave as well. This makes Lara pretty much a guaranteed extender. This makes them extremely hand trap resilient now. They were very very weak to hand traps b4

Cannahawk in RB is now a 1 card full combo. This deck actually didn't have a full combo, and new Lara actually retroactively makes Cannahawk full combo. IIRC, Rampengu has a line that people are glossing over rn. I sorta see it in my head just now and I'm fucking dead from all that exposure, and it bounces off the new fusion and being able to send Gaiapelio for a psychic in grave for a 2 material that fits the new fusion req.

RB Bonds, which sounds like a baseball player's name, ignores summoning condition and summons an ED mon. It freaking summons the Link-4 with 2 monsters and a spell that's searchable, meaning it's very stupidly cost efficient in the archetype.

RB doesn't really lock you outside Ambush, which is a trap so you play on your opp turn anyways. Why is this significant?

Well RB just got another Lara. They have 2 lvl 1s now (RBs can all be only special summoned once per turn), which means rank 1, which means they can now set up a Zeus

This archetype is so spicy now, I feel like I'm taking a bite out of Habanero. Should I just settle for about 4 copies of the new Lara? Maybe 10?

New pack is here, and man, they made Vanquish Soul expensive. 4 UR cards, and all of them need to be played in multiple copies (3 Razen, 2 Dr. Mad Love, 2 Caesar Valius, 3 Stake Your Soul) so the deck basically requires you to pull 10 UR's. But I was really excited for this archetype, and my side account is at 10k gems, so I'm pulling for it. EDIT: Holy shit, my pull luck was amazing. Only 5k gems spent and I got 7 of the 10 UR's I needed, including a royal rare Razen! I'm gonna save the remainder of my gems and just craft the rest of the cards that I need for the deck.

As for the Ritual festival... Mikanko, Dogmatika, and Drytron are all only moderately hit, and weaker ritual decks like Nekroz and the new Nouvelles stuff might be good too. Anything that relies on the extra deck is unplayable, and most of the good non-ritual "no extra deck" decks (Labrynth, Floowandereeze, Eldlich, True Draco, Ben Kei OTK, etc.) were destroyed as I expected. But of course, as usual, my old faithful Kozmos slipped in undetected and unhit. I might try gimped Dogmatika or Mikanko for a bit, but I'll probably just revert back to Kozmos.

....might spend the gems for Galaxy-Eyes pack instead.

Didnt even know there was a ritual festival. Looks like they didnt hit Yosenju or Shinobirds so I can dust one of those decks off. Have not used them in forever

I cant believe Vanquish soul cost this much, its insane for just a tier2(?) deck at best.

VS is gonna be tier 1 for a little bit. But it doesn't have much staying power.

Finally did the tribute summon part for the Proficiency test. Used Kash and got a straight fire hand. I could have OTKed my opponent but I had to do this tribute summon BM to clear that that one mission. Lead me on a winning streak to get into plat 1!

Tweaked my Lab deck and its working really well now. I think it helps Ive been watching a lot of gameplay videos to get better at the trap timing. Also knowing the interactions of my cards while my opponents usually dont. Felt so good to dismantle a Kash deck without triggering Fenrir at all due to using traps instead. And them not even getting to XYZ through lack of materials, EE Virus hitting spells andmy Dimensional Barrier!

Went on a 4 streak to shoot straight into diamond after 2 losses. My last duel was against Stun of all things and I outlasted them after 2 evenlys. Took out Fossil Dyna twice with Arianna and Chandraglier, normal summons coming in clutch! With my health issues I dont always have the time or the energy to play but it feels so good to get here again.

Now the real duels begin. I know Im in for a sweat fest but I kinda liked that in the duelist cup. Its fun figuring out how to break boards and read ahead to make sure you can play. Its certainly not everyones cup of tea, I get that.

Also is Rescue Ace worth it right now? I have 2 turbulence and a hydrant with some UR points chilling. I could easily make the deck plus prom princess. Im debating on throwing that UR at Lab on my climb in Diamond to get more Nstss and maybe the Gaura/Burcephalus II package cause dogmatika has been winning me games.

They certainly are playable still. Its just not as easy yet for them to get their engine going. But once it does they become pretty damn good.

I've seen them once or twice. They could not do anything actually dangerous quite yet. We all know they'll get there, but even with the waifu link-3, currently the better user of it is still Salads. They can still do their set 4 stuff but they're not consistent nor does it interrupt enough quite yet I think.

Pretty much handtraps, Evenly and Dyna. I was lucky I had ways to beat over the card. They really hard committed to it as well playing the second one, using card of demise hitting nothing and discarded two of the dogmatikic eclessia (Im not spelling that right). The cant be destroyed by battle one.

I thought I had lost for sure but I just made the plays I could and was able to win. Also played against a Spright Tri-Brigade player that timed themselves out because of the disruption I created.

And thanks for the info about Rescue Ace! I think it would be better if I just made something else or invest more into Lab. Maybe like floo? I can make about 5-6 UR right now.

I hate Kashtira so much, I have the duel won. Literally its over. But Im running the clock on him before I finish him off lol. Stop playing Kashtira. Either he can forfeit now or he can wait for me to end it.

Update: They waited the full five minutes. Guess they really wanted the rewards lol.

I just played a Purrely player and decked them out. Ended the game with two Jowgens, a Fossil Dyna, Inspector Boarder, and 3 solemns on the field.

Also, I use Prohibition in this deck which lets you declare one name and no card can be used with the name. When you summon a monster, and the opponent gets the opportunity to use something, I know they have Imperm. So when I see that, I just Prohibit Imperm. This Purrely player had Imperm in their hand the entire duel. They had to discard it towards the end so I know they would have negated my Jowgen I summoned turn 1. That Jowgen survived the entire 45 turn duel lol.

Ancient Warriors are unhit except DDL which they can still manage without, but I want to "play" (ehem) with Mikanko in the event.

Still missing 2 Ha-Re lol.

Okay I am calling it a night here.

Summoned Fossil Dyna turn 1, other player had TWO Imperms. I negated the first with Solemn Judgment, second one got me. Luckily I had two Solemn Strikes on the field as well so when he summoned the Labrynth searcher, I just deleted her from existence. Eventually got my Moon Mirror Shield and that was it.

I looked at their deck and they only had 4 cards in the entire deck that would have worked against a Dyna with moon mirror shield, three imperms and one compusory device. No chance once I lived through the second turn haha.

Sometimes they just have the one bad day counter every time

holy shit i beat rescue ace, kashtira, and gishki spright in a ROW while using amazoness. these women FUCK. only staple im using is lightning storm because i fucked up and just used the deck i use in solo duels.

Their new support makes them have fangs, and a lot of the key boss monsters are UR, but you might not need 3 copies, which is great.

But if you do want to easily escape Gold, the moment you build a tiered deck, you'll probably have like a 10+ win streak on the way to Plat.

I do build a lot of rogue to casual tier decks but it's under an understanding that I might lose a lot of duels lul

Saw a Farfa video where someone ss Osiris in defense pos with Revived Sky God in opponent's turn + Maxx C. Opponent was Branded.

Branded then made Masquerade; because Osiris effect is mandatory Osiris got taxed for 600 every time. Osiris was also negated by Dragostapelia on field.

But that's where things got jank. Normally ss'd Osiris (and the other two) will go to GY at end phase, but because of Masquerade's tax and the sent-to-GY-if-ss'd IS an effect, it ended up not be able to be done because the LP is not enough for the tax.

17k ATK Osiris stayed on field and deliver an OTK.

Yeah the new table 500 video. Though nowadays he changes the format of that series every other video. I kinda miss the really old format of friends getting on skype and shooting the shit reacting to crazy plays though.

A lot of yugitubers have regressed to easier consistent video formats over having to scour millions of bad replays lol

Here is the deck thats gotten me almost to Diamond. I think there may still be some room for improvement but this thing is a beast. Probably gonna remove Triple Tactics Talent tho. I did my best to be as HandTrap proof as possible since EVERYONE always has Called By the Grave but I have not seen as many Ash's. So TTT is not really doing much for me.

Special summoning is cringe. Im taking opponents back to the 90s where you only get one summon, the normal summon haha.

That's wrong because Monster Reborn was a thing back then as well as Call of the Haunted, though, and myriad other small monsters like Giant Rat.

After my last 10 pack with 0 URs I pulled some decent stuff this time around and some timely cards at that. I pulled both prediction princess ritual monsters in. Played around and its funny activating pot of the forbidden constantly. But it seems like that and guard dog stun are the only payoff and guard dog seems really dull. Plus since the rituals are quick effects I have to constantly get asked when to activate them.

Thats it. I made it to Diamond. I went second and the opponent ended their turn after turboing out almost the entire extra deck with I:P, Borrelend Dragon, and Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss on the field after turn 1.

I dark rulered them all, summoned Fossil Dyna, eqipped it with Moon Mirror Shield, and picked off Archfiend Abyss on Turn 2, I:P on Turn 4, and on Turn 6 I impermed Borrelend to take it out too and the dude scooped. That was my Diamond game.

All is right with the world. The better deck won.

I've made it to diamond twice recently on accident with Gaia and kind of regretted it both times. I honestly could get to Master if I really really wanted to, but I just hate playing against the same decks over and over again.

I feel that. If you are playing a normal deck I can see how that could be frustrating. I actually like it because I know what's coming and my deck is made specifically to counter it.
