Are there tanky dinos in this moc 12? Those are the biggest time wasters.

No. It was Gepard and Kafka with some relatively normal Elites to go along with them. I think one of the sides had the new Harmony robots or whatever the hell they were from the 2.2 story.

I'm not sure it's optimal for my account, but Harmony MC at least seems usable in MoC which is pretty cool. Also seems to be giving me motivation to invest more in my Xueyi who was always a character I wanted to use more than the meta dictated.

It's a bit unfortunate that good Break Effect units seem to be all over the map element-wise now though, which makes it seem a bit niche.

Ha, ok forget just "usable". Ended up using Harmony MC/Aventurine/Ruan Mei/Dr Ratio for side 2 of MoC 12 when I was really struggling with a lot of other comps. It did take 6 cycles (side 1 was 3-cycles with an Acheron team), but that's still better than I was able to manage with anything else. I was a bit unsure about the comp since I didn't know if I'd be able to keep enough debuffs up for Ratio, but it seemed to work well enough.

I hadn't tried mono-quantum Qingque yet admittedly which might have worked, but that surely would have been sketchy because Silver Wolf's weakness implant gets a bit overloaded with no actual quantum-weak enemies plus 2 elites per wave, and it would also make my Acheron team worse to have to steal Silver Wolf and Sparkle.

Rage
Moiety Theme
About That...

I really dislike the vocals in Mutants over Broadway. They have this weird quality that feels like the singer is lurching or stumbling or something, and it just doesn't sound good. The rest of the sound is pretty good, but the song's already a lost cause. Rage is a JRPG-sounding power ballade that falls pretty firmly into the "good but not great" camp and is the clear vote here.

Moiety theme is a solid ambient song with some cool percussion, but doesn't really have a chance at finding its way into my favorites. Wild Woods has some individually cool sounds but the overall thing is a bit too goofy for me. The solo flute part at about the halfway point is very good though.

I don't like About That as much as some of the other Paradise Killer songs, but the combination of booming synth, sax, and 80's sounding vocals is still very good. Round has a very cool effect where it's constantly adding new parts and building on it's self. Great sense of progression but I don't know if it quite has the payoff that I would like. Still a very cool song and would have voted it in any of the other matches.

14.3 Billion Years
Declaration! Imperial Floral Assault Group
Duel VS Fortress Leader

14.3 Billion Years is definitely a favorite of mine. Love the use of motif and the cello harmony is just immaculate. Context certainly doesn't hurt, but I don't really agree with the notion the song relies on context. At least personally I loved the song before having played the game at all, and the motifs are all pretty all established pretty well even within just this song. Aria Math also one of my favorites in bracket A, but it had the wrong matchup here. Tuned percussion has always been a pet thing of mine though, and Aria Math delivers in spades there.

Not in a writeup mood for the remaining matches but honestly all the songs are great. Very strong day.

New Battle!!!
Awakening ~ Nrburgring Suite
New Bodhum ~ New Bodhum -Aggressive Mix-

New Battle is reasonably good. I've never been a huge fan of this style of Xenoblade song where it usually just fails to get the blood pumping and offers little else. The piano is nice here though. Don't care much for the CRYMACHINA song. I don't like the vocals at all and the song would be much better without them, but even without them it's struggling to break "fine". And actually when the vocals go away I don't really like the part that replaces it either.

Donk main title is surprisingly fun although possibly a bit repetitive by the end. I don't think the vocalist is great unfortunately, but the actual composition I like a lot and the song is very catchy overall, especially the backing synth. I've always liked the Suite, but am not really sure how to explain why. Just a nice pleasant listen though that never feels like a chore to me despite its runtime. The climax at the end is nice, but overall this is more of a vibes song for me.

I'm not sure what to say about Live and Learn. It's not like there's anything wrong with it, but there's other styles of music I like more, and even as far as 2000's alt rock goes it doesn't feel particularly noteworthy. The guitar solo is probably my favorite part. New Bodhum is cool--lots of neat synth and percussion sounds. Not the biggest fan of the vocals, but it's a small component and there's a lot else cool going on.

Well Xenoblade 3 is at least starting much stronger than 2 did, in large part because Noah blows Rex out of the water.

If Noah and Mio aren't an item by the end of this game there's going to be hell to pay.

I don't care much for Machias overall, but I give him extra points because for whatever reason is role in CS3 feels like the most natural extension of his character. Like when they're reintroducing you to Elliot or Laura or whatever I feel like they're just forcing an old cameo in your face out of obligation, but Machias never felt that way for some reason.

Jusis is actually great imo. One of the strongest character arcs in the first 2 Cold Steel games and continued to be enjoyable even in his later appearances.

2.2 story finished. Don't think I liked this one as much as the last two patches, but it was still solid. Acheron and Sunday are still great, even if Sunday's master plan to make every day Sunday makes little sense to me.

In a lot of ways this patch felt like it hinged on the player being on the same page as the writer without actually doing enough legwork to ensure that happens. The story involves the mechanics of the dream world a lot which were never explained well to begin with, and this patch also seemed to turn the heavy-handed metaphorical storytelling up to eleven.

There are a few loose ends (Sparkle, the IPC) that haven't really been seen through, but for now I'll assume that's still to come in 2.3. Definitely hoping to see more of Aventurine and honestly Diamond, as well as whatever the IPC's endgame overall is here.

I really hope Acheron at least is going to be a recurring character.

Caught up on the Spice and Wolf remake and they are through the first major arc now. Honestly not sure which is stronger between this or the original--I definitely don't think there's a huge difference in quality between them.

In general I think the remake has been more on-point with the dramatic scenes, but the overall vibe of the show was a bit stronger in the original, though I'm not sure exactly what combination of factors leads to that. The two things I will say are that I've found voice acting better and more well-rounded in the remake, but I liked the visuals of the original show more.

Basically yeah though this is a totally good remake so far--I think you could pretty much watch either version and be okay.

The hard sci-fi aspects

Ok this classification made a bit more sense in my head and probably reads as if it should apply to some aspects of the story I'm not intending, but I don't really know how to come up with a better description quickly
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
Yeah all I was asking is if I'd be confused.

The hard sci-fi aspects of Xenoblade have universally been a complete flop for me, so I'm sort of assuming that anything depending on the remaining Xenoblade 2 content* would not land well for me even with proper context. I also already have a vague understanding of what the Xenoblade 2 ending is about and what the general plot of 3 is.

*This does not necessarily apply to Torna, but my impression before asking was that Torna only really mattered within Xenoblade 2.

So hypothetically if I was thinking about playing Xenoblade 3, would it matter if I'd finished Xenoblade 2 or played the Torna DLC?

I fully expect to be disappointed by the story (at least by the end) either way, but am also in a gaming mode where I don't know if that will matter.

Ok scuffed favorites brackets completed. Brackets A and C are definitely the strong ones for me here.

My personal retirees

Bracket A: Kaine/Salvation < Redeem the Future > 14.3 Billion Years > Aurora's Theme

Bracket B: Death by Glamour < Nuedori > Spiral of Erebos > Across Dimming Asterisms

Bracket C: The Merciless Savior < EXEC_FLIP_ARPHAGE/. > Release the Seal > Convergence

Bracket D: Unfathomed Force < Origami Castle > Tower Fierce > Colgera Battle

Surprisingly I think a few of these might have a chance.

Mask of Truth is incredible and one of the best VN's ever imo. Mask of Deception is I thought solid overall with an incredibly slow start (and probably grating, depending on your tastes) and a very good ending. The payoff of MoT does depend a lot on the setup in MoD though so I wouldn't recommend just skipping straight to Truth. I only watched the anime for the original game, but that was quite good and I imagine at least the Prelude to the Fallen remake is similar.

Utawarerumono is pretty similar to Fire Emblem in terms of what the games involve. The story/gameplay ratio is way more skewed towards story though which is why I don't know if it really belongs in a JRPG discussion or not.

I don't know if I've played enough to really comment but here to say that NEO TWEWY is very good.

Also shout-out to the Utawarerumono games but that's probably more VN than JRPG and also not going to be to everyone's tastes

Depends on exactly what you mean. 3 is the most fun for me to play, but it sort moves a bit away from stealth, and I also think a lot of the appeal of 3 has more to due with the setting and the atmosphere than strictly the mechanics.

I ended up voting for 2. Never played 5.

Oh Rubia ended up making it, along with both Unfathomed Force and Merciless Savior? Not bad at all. I think almost everything I was rooting for at the end other than my HSR noms made it. I guess I wish Daughter of Hallownest made it but I'm already used to Hollow Knight disappointment in these.

Definitely better than I hoped considering I was sleeping through the end of noms, and I think this might have ended up as one of my better nomination periods.

Yeah Aventurine's damage is nothing to snooze at. Mine is not built super well but he's probably still on-par with my offensively-geared Pela and Silver Wolf, at least. Probably ahead if I'm pairing him with a lot of follow-up attacks from his teammates.

Edit: Well, my Aventurine is probably in the middle. Surely he could have better relics but I am still sitting around 4.1k DEF and something like 90% CRIT DMG with the Salsotto planar set.

The anniversary event thing got me to start trying Gold and Gears again, and managed to do it at conundrum level 12. I'd previously made it through level 10 with Qingque+Propogation path and the Occurrence dice before I just kind of stopped trying.

This time I was using Double Sustain Acheron (Fu Xuan, Aventurine, Silver Wolf, Acheron) with the Erudition path, which felt somewhat better based on my memory. Being able to run 2 sustains made it a lot less glass cannon-y and dependent on specific blessings, and Acheron being so absurd meant I was still putting out enough damage. I don't know how the team handles all the final bosses but it's at least well set up to handle the double robot one.

Also I really like Aventurine in simulated universe generally. Just a good sustain but he also synergizes well with both Preservation and Elation blessings.
