Over the past year, Arab and Muslim American community leaders and voters, as well as students and other community members, urged the Biden administration and, later, the Harris campaign to hear their concerns. They urged them to empathize with the mass loss of civilian life in Gaza, to understand the blanket of grief and pain that has fractured their communities. Ultimately, for some Arab and Muslim American voters, Gaza became the force that determined how they cast their ballot.

This is an outright lie. Harris met with their leaders, heard their concerns, and called for a cease-fire. What really happened was that these "students and other community leaders" wanted was a weapons embargo, not empathy and understanding.

Ameen Atta, a Palestinian-American registered voter in Wisconsin, tells Teen Vogue he could not vote for Harris or Trump and was deeply committed to the uninstructed movement. They need[ed] to earn our votes, not the other way around, Atta says. Theyre not entitled to my vote; they need to earn my vote.

This is bullshit. You vote for the candidate that best meets your wants and needs. Regardless of whether they "earned" your vote. This is akin to a customer not wanting to buy something they want out of a store without the storekeeper haggling first.

Attas choice to vote third-party, while influenced by his connection to Gaza, was also about driving forward a political message: This will set a precedent in this country that, from now on, if you have bad policy on issues that the majority of American people care about if you have bad policy, you will be punished on a political level.

More bullshit. The message he and his third-party protest voters delivered was the exact opposite. That having a "bad policy on issues" will be REWARDED, not punished.

After all, the person with "bad policy on issues" won the Presidency thanks to you.

Many Arab and Muslim American voters feel that Harris failed to fully recognize their humanity and to do more than verbally acknowledge over a year's worth of collective grief. The frontiers of a deeply divided country as it enters a second Trump presidency are still in flux. For many Arab and Muslim American voters, questions remain.

Which is, of course, what "Arab and Muslim American community leaders and voters, as well as students and other community members, urged the Biden administration and, later, the Harris campaign to" do. See quote #1 above.

Doing what they asked lost Harris votes. Trump, on the other hand, who campaigned on actively harming them... netted their votes. Which means that the winner should campaign on actively harming Arab-Americans, as it's the only way to really earn their votes. Which is really, really messed up.

There is a lot of uncertainty about what the second Trump term will bring, Saba tells Teen Vogue. Regardless, the same fight continues, because the [war] in Palestine has only escalated. The struggle for justice in Palestine is all the more urgent. That does not stop based on who our president is, because, as we've seen, neither party currently is able or willing or even wants to stop this violence.

This, basically, shows that the "struggle" is more important than the actual goal itself, to these guys. The war in Gaza is ramping down, not up. And note the wording, "the struggle for justice", not simply "justice". And that struggle "does not stop based on who our President is". Meaning that even if there was some magic President that would give them everything they asked for, they'd then say it wasn't enough and demand more.

Quintessential bad faith, right there.

They're Made out of Meat

Terry Bisson, 1991

---

"They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"Meat. They're made out of meat."

"Meat?"

"There's no doubt about it. We picked several from different parts of the planet, took them aboard our recon vessels, probed them all the way through. They're completely meat."

"That's impossible. What about the radio signals? The messages to the stars."

"They use the radio waves to talk, but the signals don't come from them. The signals come from machines."

"So who made the machines? That's who we want to contact."

"They made the machines. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Meat made the machines."

"That's ridiculous. How can meat make a machine? You're asking me to believe in sentient meat."

"I'm not asking you, I'm telling you. These creatures are the only sentient race in the sector and they're made out of meat."

"Maybe they're like the Orfolei. You know, a carbon-based intelligence that goes through a meat stage."

"Nope. They're born meat and they die meat. We studied them for several of their life spans, which didn't take too long. Do you have any idea the life span of meat?"

"Spare me. Okay, maybe they're only part meat. You know, like the Weddilei. A meat head with an electron plasma brain inside."

"Nope. We thought of that, since they do have meat heads like the Weddilei. But I told you, we probed them. They're meat all the way through."

"No brain?"

"Oh, there is a brain all right. It's just that the brain is made out of meat!"

"So... what does the thinking?"

"You're not understanding, are you? The brain does the thinking. The meat."

"Thinking meat! You're asking me to believe in thinking meat!"

"Yes, thinking meat! Conscious meat! Loving meat. Dreaming meat. The meat is the whole deal! Are you getting the picture?"

"Omigod. You're serious then. They're made out of meat."

"Finally, Yes. They are indeed made out meat. And they've been trying to get in touch with us for almost a hundred of their years."

"So what does the meat have in mind."

"First it wants to talk to us. Then I imagine it wants to explore the universe, contact other sentients, swap ideas and information. The usual."

"We're supposed to talk to meat?"

"That's the idea. That's the message they're sending out by radio. 'Hello. Anyone out there? Anyone home?' That sort of thing."

"They actually do talk, then. They use words, ideas, concepts?"

"Oh, yes. Except they do it with meat."

"I thought you just told me they used radio."

"They do, but what do you think is on the radio? Meat sounds. You know how when you slap or flap meat it makes a noise? They talk by flapping their meat at each other. They can even sing by squirting air through their meat."

"Omigod. Singing meat. This is altogether too much. So what do you advise?"

"Officially or unofficially?"

"Both."

"Officially, we are required to contact, welcome, and log in any and all sentient races or multibeings in the quadrant, without prejudice, fear, or favor. Unofficially, I advise that we erase the records and forget the whole thing."

"I was hoping you would say that."

"It seems harsh, but there is a limit. Do we really want to make contact with meat?"

"I agree one hundred percent. What's there to say?" `Hello, meat. How's it going?' But will this work? How many planets are we dealing with here?"

"Just one. They can travel to other planets in special meat containers, but they can't live on them. And being meat, they only travel through C space. Which limits them to the speed of light and makes the possibility of their ever making contact pretty slim. Infinitesimal, in fact."

"So we just pretend there's no one home in the universe."

"That's it."

"Cruel. But you said it yourself, who wants to meet meat? And the ones who have been aboard our vessels, the ones you have probed? You're sure they won't remember?"

"They'll be considered crackpots if they do. We went into their heads and smoothed out their meat so that we're just a dream to them."

"A dream to meat! How strangely appropriate, that we should be meat's dream."

"And we can marked this sector unoccupied."

"Good. Agreed, officially and unofficially. Case closed. Any others? Anyone interesting on that side of the galaxy?"

"Yes, a rather shy but sweet hydrogen core cluster intelligence in a class nine star in G445 zone. Was in contact two galactic rotation ago, wants to be friendly again."

"They always come around."

"And why not? Imagine how unbearably, how unutterably cold the universe would be if one were all alone."

So the Protestant Irish are white. Catholic Irish are not. Italians are not white. Spaniards and Portuguese and French are not. Germans are possibly white. Poles are not white.

Also a weird tangent/thought

my grandmother was born in Italy. My father being the first born here, then me, then my children. My grandmother is long passed away, but theoretically she could be eligible for this neat deportation program where would that leave the rest of the family? Would my father be allowed to stay? His father was also an Italian immigrant. My mothers parents were 2nd generation Americans so I would assume I would be allowed to stay but, like, thats just weird.

granted Italian is not on the Christian-American MAGA hit-list so its all just theoretical but still

I asked this question back in 2016. Because my family is the same, just with my grandparents coming to the US from Ukraine (or, at the time, the Russian Empire) when they were very little.

MAGAts had nothing to say then. I doubt they'll have anything to say now.
