Character animations and scene direction can get really funky. I'd say in that regard it's aged about as poorly as FF9's gameplay, just in a different way.
Neither game has aged nearly poorly enough to make this topic though. We're trying to fit square pegs into round holes here. --- It's Reyn Time. |

Even if a few of them have a somewhat worse reputation now, none of them have dropped to the point where I'd put them on this Rushmore. FF9's reception among the fanbase has largely gone up over time - it's definitely more well-regarded these days than in the early 2000s, where it was borderline considered a black sheep due to being overshadowed by 7, 8, and 10. I think it's telling that the only people who have voted for it are B8's most vocal haters of the game.

It's why the evolution of the genre has traditionally been about ways to de-prioritize armor and blocking. See: Bloodborne, Sekiro.

Alan Wake 2 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Resident Evil 4 Super Mario Bros. Wonder I think any of those would have been the odds-on favorite in 2024. What do we got this time? Yakuza? Tekken? Dragon's Dogma? Hades 2 eventually? FF7 Rebirth should feel like it has a strong chance but Square has an aura of failure right now. --- It's Reyn Time. |

Probably the most popular dialogue choice in all of FF14. Glad you got to fight an Endsinger after she was made a bit tougher.
