Luster Soldier: This has become my new favorite starter Pokemon because it's cute and super feminine. It's more feminine than cute, though. The Water/Fairy typing is icing on the cake when it came to making my decision to choose Popplio. Primarina shares some things in common with Milotic, being that both of them are cute/feminine and have that "beauty" look going for them. If you like Milotic, you'll probably like Primarina as well. What Milotic doesn't have is that secondary Fairy typing, which is enough to put Primarina over Milotic for me. As for the expected popularity among fans, I see Primarina being similar to Sylveon in that regard with a small, but dedicated group of diehard fans while having a lot of haters. Primarina being a starter gives it an advantage over Sylveon since that starter status automatically means it has at least some people that will like it.

Raka_Putra: It could've been worse, really

Inviso: I don't mind a feminine Pokemon and I LOVE this gen's starters. But yeah, Primarina is still a Water-type and gets outclassed by her compatriots. So…good, but not up to par with the other two starter choices.

Cybat: Purty. But why is its signature move and Z-move its primary type instead of secondary type? Kind of weird. Its signature ability is pretty cool too, although can we just get the Sound type already?

ctes: Primarina really saves this otherwise awful line. It doesn't feel like a starter, but let's ignore that. When I saw Brionne, I thought I was in for the worst Pokemon ever here, but Primarina is good. It's not fantastic, but it's good. It's also great to use, has a solid defensive typing and is super viable in UU. It's sorta weird that its unique Z-move is water type when the other two starters got their secondary types and Primarina also has the least cool of them, not that Z-moves matter here. I don't think I've ever been so relieved to see a Pokemon, as when I saw this.

Ermine: Maybe not QUITE the worst in terms of design here, but it gets last because it completely ruined my Popplio when I had such high hopes for him. Actually, who am I kidding, I knew that this would happen to my boy. I actually called it before the leaks for the starters were even shown. I said "I have a really bad feeling about Popplio's Evos". And lo and behold, I was right. Sometimes people say I'm too pessimistic, but jesus did I completely hit the mark on this one. Thank GOD Decidueye turned out amazing otherwise these set of starters would all be pretty damn terrible. RIP Popplio 2016.

For me, feminine pokemon are pretty hit-or-miss. Lilligant and Ninetales are amazing, Diancie/Magearna/Milotic are all legit, Steenee is adorable (too bad its evolution is a disaster).

Steenee is great and I do think the evolution is a step back (since it's less cute than Steenee), but it's not enough to place Tsareena low on my list. I still had Tsareena at 31 on my list even with some design flaws.

Okay, I'll agree the goth girls aren't that great to begin with (Gothita is trash, but Gothorita and Gothitelle are much better). Lopunny is a better than average Pokemon for me.

Florges looks a bit weird with that face it has, and it's also one of the only cases where I have the final evolution last in a 3 stage line (Flabébé and Floette are much better). I love Meloetta, though.

This reminds me of a user called "Skyridge87" who posted a topic near the end of last year titled "Primarina is my husbando". I found it a bit odd that he has an obsession for male Primarina, since the appeal of Primarina comes from its feminine appearance. When I played through Pokemon Sun/Moon, I made sure that I got a female Popplio for my starter.

The gender ratio is a bit messed up though, since the game has Primarina as 88.1% Male. I know this is just Game Freak maintaining a tradition that's been in place for all of the starters, but they did introduce Chikorita in the same generation where gender first appeared in the series. Chikorita's entire line is feminine as well and it still got majority Male gender ratio in the same generation that introduced gender.

Anagram: I didn't plan for Exeggutor-A to be my #1, but it's just so silly and stupid that I can't help but love it. As far as I'm concerned, it's the main character of this gen.

Inviso: I think this is the ONLY instance in which I would say the Alolan form is unequivocally better than the original. Not only is the typing unique (though so is Grass/Psychic, once legendaries are discounted), but it's just goofy enough in its design to amuse me to no end.

ctes: This is such a terrible looking Pokemon, it's ridiculously tall and stupid looking and I love it. It's annoying to use and it's very bad too, dragon is a major nerf from psychic for it and makes no sense either, but this is so hillarious. It works. The memes that spawned from this are hillarious, except when they include Charizard because that one has a dragon form too. The anime made a major joke of it as well and it doesn't get old. It's high placement is purely for the jokes.

Luster Soldier: I remember the reactions when Alolan Exeggutor was revealed. Reactions were all over the place, with some people thinking it's the funniest looking Pokemon ever, while others greatly hated it. It's also now considered the tallest Pokemon ever, being just slightly over 35 feet tall. The reveal even caused enough discussion among the fanbase to result in Alolan Exeggutor trending on Twitter for a short period of time.

hotdogturtle: Ranking it high solely for my favorite form, Sensu/Ghost. Rare type combo that's also the first of its kind to be a bird. Plus it's one of the few Ghost types that has a solid physical form. I like the color scheme and the style of its feathers (its "outfit"). It reminds me of Chatot, a small bird Pokemon that I'd like to own in real life. For other forms, Electric>Fire>Psychic but I don't really care about the rest of them, they'd be low ranked for me.

PrinceKaro: The rare bird pokemon with personality.

Cybat: The concept for this guy is really fun. Its form designs are maybe a little on the nose, and its stats aren't high enough to be that useful, but it still left a good impression on me. And the fight with the trainer who has all four of them can actually be pretty tricky if you're not ready for it.

Luster Soldier: The concept of having a different variant of the same Pokemon on each of the 4 main Alolan islands is quite interesting, even if it's a little gimmicky I suppose. Each form shares a secondary Flying typing, but the primary typing varies by which form it is. Out of the 4 forms, I would rank them as Baile (Fire) > Sensu (Ghost) > Pom-Pom (Electric) > Pa'u (Psychic). I find these little birdies to be cute and gave consideration to this Pokemon as a possible member of my in-game team, but I scrapped that idea when it turned out to have a very limited movepool. The stats are perfectly useable if you need someone for your playthrough, especially with the above average speed. The problem lays with Oricorio having very few viable moves.

Paratroopa1: TEEN BIRD SQUAD! CHEERLEADER! SO-AND-SO! WHAT'S HER FACE! THE UGLY ONE! (I'll leave it to you to figure out which is which. hint: cheerleader is the yellow one)

Inviso: Aside from P'au, I love Oricorio's forms. They're cute and fun and give me some variety. I wish they learned more special attacks, given that they're special-based, but they're still decent.

Brayze_II: *pomf* what are we going to do on the bed?

Raka_Putra: Is it good? I don't use it. Neat gimmick with the formes.

StifledSilence: I like the gimmick of having one form per island. But sadly this thing wasn't good enough to use in battle.

mnkboy907: I was really bummed to find out this thing is just Rotom 2.0, in that its movepool is no different depending on forme. Sensu's the only good one, but it only needed one good one so whatever.

ctes: Oricorio is somewhat interesting. It's certainly an unique gimmick it has, but it's somewhat annoying. Had TMs not been infinite it would be complete ass, but it's still annoying to constantly switch moveset when you want to switch typing, epecially if you want something on only one that is not a TM. You can of course just not use the gimmick and use your favorite form or the one that fits your team the most, but without its gimmick, it's a very lame Pokemon in itself.

Cybat: Unlike the other Alolan forms, surely this line should have changed its name, no? I mean, it's not actually a sand shrew anymore.

Inviso: Sandshrew is cute. This is a downgrade, but not by MUCH.

Luster Soldier: This is cuter than regular Sandshrew, but still only ends up being okay overall since I never really cared about regular Sandshrew/Sandslash. The typing is pretty bad though, with Ice/Steel having brutal 4x weaknesses to Fire and Fighting.

Raka_Putra: Ice/Steel is very chill, that's a literal mnemonic.

ctes: I like it a bit less than Sandshrew, but it looks fine. Slightly more bulky looking, like if it build an ice shield, continuing Game Freak's stupid line of thinking that they made a defensive type in ice when they absolutely didn't for tons of reasons, they only resist their own type among other things. Anyway, yeah, it's fine.
