Anyway, I think SD's MitB cash-in is a success, and Raw's MitB cash-in this year is the one that finally falls.

Although it is all fictional.

I mean, initially after the Brand Sep, the Royal Rumble winner could only challenge his brand's Champion at WM, but then lo and behold Chris Benoit "found a loophole." A loophole that for some reason has never been closed even 7 years later.

They can pull it out of their asses if they really want to.

It can never be closed because it would rip a hole in space in time.

Eh I see no problem with Punk hanging around

As long as he doesn't exclusively hang around. Like say he wins the title, goes and does his own thing for a month or two... then comes back to a Raw with the title cause he bought a ticket, and gets harassed to defend his title. I think that'd be very cool. He doesn't need to go off and defend the WWE title on RoH PPVs or anything, just needs to be off the radar for a while (with the belt also being off the radar and there being a feeling of "we only have one title noooo" rather than just vacating the title and replacing it)

If he wins the title and then shows up every week that's a bit stupid. It'd be along the lines of Cena getting "fired."

Being signed to brand means you're eligible for that brand's title (if you're male), so since Benoit wasn't eligible for the SD belt, he wasn't signed, ergo he was available to go to RAW.

I literally write kayfabe contracts for the WWE.

The only person besides Benoit to ever actually exploit the loophole was Orton in 2009. Everyone else always ended up challenging the Champion on their brand.

I immediately thought of Benoit as well. It might even be what Cena was referring to...nah.

I'd actually like to start a Benoit discussion after all of this dies down. Mainly about whether you guys think he'll always be a taboo subject in wrestling. You see tribute shows to other beloved wrestlers that died young, but the thought of a Benoit tribute show (besides the ill-timed WWE one) is unheard of. But since the evidence is out there that he may have been a victim himself, and at the very least wasn't in his right mind, do you think the wounds will ever heal enough that we might see a Chris Benoit/Wild Pegasus Tribute Show? Or more likely a Benoit Family Tribute Show? It sounds crazy now but I feel like it's possible, even though he's technically a murderer.

If there was, I wouldn't watch it. I don't even feel comfortable watching matches with him. It's just weird.

EDIT: I added the Wild Pegasus part because it seems now that New Japan is the only company that would even have a reason to do a tribute show.

I don't mean a compilation of his matches, I mean an actual wrestling show held in his (and Nancy and Daniel's) memory, with proceeds going to his other kids or something. With his friends most likely being involved in the show (though at this point that boils down to...Dean Malenko and Chris Jericho?) in some capacity. Like the Ted Petty Invitational or the Chri$ Ca$h Memorial Show.

I like this idea, although I think it might need some shenanigans with the WWE declaring an "interim" title or pushing the US title as the new top belt, something to allow there to still be a "top guy". Have it initially be, say, R-Truth, on the grounds that Vince has seen Cena is unreliable and now wants to convince his other top stars to not betray him so he's making Truth or Del Rio or whoever his big name, have a face beat the guy soon, THEN Punk makes his appearance in the crowd to remind everyone that the reigning "champ" is a fraud. Doesn't necessarily have to be an official title, but I think you really need someone to be the recipient of the "I'm still better than you" message from Punk. Add in having the WWE still talk about him even after he's left; he doesn't appear but they mention that they're trying to get in touch with him and so on to make it seem like a bigger deal and keep him fresh in everyone's minds.

Also get the New Nexus guys to use their original music instead of Punk's theme, because it's dumb having them use his now.

I can't speak for Japanese culture, but over here I just don't see it.

Yeah, head trauma likely was the biggest culprit in turning Benoit into a murderer, but most of that head trauma was willingly (and excessively) caused by himself. He may be a "victim" of his brain turning into mush but he CHOSE to do so and completely ignore any warning signs.

I think ultimately his legacy will be that it took something that incredible and ridiculously tragic to actually get the wrestling industry to finally care about the well-being of their performers in a long-term sense over short-term profit.

The industry is better off now because of Chris Benoit, in a sick way.

It's just a weird feeling to hold a wrestling show in memory of a murderer. Truth is, we'll never know how much control he had over his own actions despite the brain damage. All we can do is speculate. Watching a show dedicated to someone who could have been...eh, I don't know. It would be kinda uncomfortable to me. I see where you are coming from, but I just personally couldn't watch it. If WWE will ever get to the point where talking about him is okay...well, I don't know. But I'd be willing to bet it won't, just based on how the media reacted to his death.

They actually used "We Are One" a couple weeks ago on Superstars. First time I've heard it since the cage match where Punk ripped off Wade's armband I think.

But then on Raw even sans Punk they still used "This Fire Burns." I guess in that instance it could be seen as a way to protest the suspension but still the announcers have to sell that.

Also the Orton concussion story did have Orton saying he wanted to compete, but the Raw GM (who acts kind of like a tweener) and Teddy Long (clearly face) both said they couldn't risk him actually getting in the ring. So yeah, it's kind of silly to have Orton saying he doesn't give a **** about it, but at the same time it does carry the message that the WWE itself doesn't care what you think, it will force you to sit out, which...isn't ideal, but isn't too bad either.

tsk, tsk, tsk, Jeff Hardy, I love dishing out concussions and Anderson wrestling anyway with em, WWE copying TNA.

Not that "but TNA did it too" is a valid defense, but I'll go ahead and bite on this anyway.

TNA at least presented it as an issue of contention, and emphasized that Hardy and Bischoff were clearly in the wrong for intentionally injuring and forcing him to wrestle with an injury. Matt Morgan then brought notice to the fact that it's easy to get ONE doctor to clear you and that Anderson was probably not good to go, despite being "cleared." The point is, it was a debated point, whereas the debate on Orton consisted of Teddy Long saying "You can't wrestle TODAY but try back in four days once your doctor says its okay" and that was pretty much the end of it.

As for Robert Roode, I missed that PPV or episode of Impact so I can't comment on it. Sorry! In any case, I believe his injury was arm/shoulder related and that's not AT ALL on the same level as brain injuries that we're talking about here.

Dolph doing this would be much better, considering he has better character and in-ring skills than Orlando.

Yeah that Dolph promo ....its PROBABLY nothing, but it gives me hope that overnight Ziggler will be the top man in the company by being in the right place at the right time.

I mean this can work, Zigglers no slouch and Vickie would be able to dust off all the heelish "retain the titles against high profile opponents, supposedly better than the champ" thing if they wanted to run with him and her.
