I am in NO WAY a talented Miss Fortune. I only get good scores because I can last hit relentlessly with her and have better items than my lane. But from my personal experience I treat her like like Cassie:
I sit back and poke with double up when I know it's safe to do so. If the enemy team has Ashe I don't do this because LOL ARROW is coming. I wait for initiation to happen and sit in the back for a couple seconds while the enemy team lines up...then...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA

I finally do really well. I'm Orianna, partner is Blitzcrank, against Karma and Leona (the duo that will never die, no matter what you do, Karma seriously died once the entire game), and I'm farming and killing enemies really well (though not those two), and it doesn't matter. Our Vlad goes 20/0/1 and negates the rest of the team. I could have been an itemless Evelynn for all it mattered.
Still, though, seeing that I did about 50% of Vlad's damage but still was higher than anyone on the enemy team was kind of funny.

Like I know it sucks your team was bad, but as mid you have a responsibility to take care of your other lanes and be more proactive. I know it isn't always easy to think about but if you did really well vs kog and notice Vayne has a few kills you should have been like "okay time to get fed from her killing spree while stopping her momentum.' That's a 'next step' for you to take. It will do you more good to think like that then to pity yourself for bad team mates. You can always improve.

You guys always tell me to escape low elo by picking an AP carry, winning mid, ganking other lanes and just being awesome.
I just went 6-0-5 before the first turret dropped. I dominated Annie mid and killed the jungler at the same time. I killed top and knocked the turret. I ganked bottom and killed that turret.
Still lost because enemy Caitlyn went 1-5, grabbed Sword of the Occult, and my team refused to focus her even when I shielded myself flashed in and Ult Stunned her. So she gets 20 stacks and proceeds to one shot everyone.
Like, no matter how well I play I can't get this new round of players to listen. I'm constantly greeted with "who made you leader" type responses. No matter how well I play I ALWAYS get at least one person who isn't just bad, but completely awful.
What do?

Not every game is winnable, especially at that ELO. I mean I don't know specifics but it seems you were doing a good job there. You just have to continue to constantly improve your game, be patient, and duo-qing with someone reliable never hurts your chances.

Look, games like that are always going to happen.
I will repeat for emphasis: games like that will are ALWAYS going to happen.
They exist and they happen. To everyone.
But if you can start with multiple kills for your team and try and lead it with strong play of your own then in THOSE games you will almost certainly win quite a bit more than you lose.
If you looked at EVERY game where a person starts 6-0-5, there is a good chance they went on to win at least 70% of the time. The idea is being a ****ing boss every game at low ELO where its very possible and forcing your team to win more than 50% of the time.
You don't have to be the kind of player who can consistently tear the game up at 1700, but as long as you can do it in ELO hell then work on doing it every single game. And sometimes you wont, but if you do it often enough then you will force your way on.
At a higher ELO you can play a more passive (but still extremely useful) team role and expect it to take you places, but not there.

I had a situation like that shortly after the game came out, except she was even worse fed, and we still managed to win.
Protip: Amumu ult makes Vayne nigh-useless for the duration.

I want to be able to pick Morgana, farm my ass off, deny the enemy Mid, and play a relatively passive game. But at the Elo I'm at I HAVE to kill mid; not just kill, but completely dominate it so that I can help every other lane out.
On good teams, I am patient in team fights and wait for things to get going and then I flash in, Ult, and win the team fight because an AOE 800 damage stun is a game changer.
At my elo I have to not only initiate, but I have to dive the enemy and get them low enough that my kill chasing team mates focus them. It's fun every once in awhile but carrying bad teams refuses a lot of the fun for me.
My favorite champ to play is Leona. I love sitting bottom and supporting the carry and harass the crap out of the enemy carry. My past 3 games with her I have kept my carry 20-30 CS ahead of the enemies. I have our brush and THEIR blue constantly warded. But then the other lanes are getting wrecked and there's nothing I can do about it.
Sorry to rant it's just frustrating that I'm unable to see how good I've become at this game because the people in my elo are just so damn bad. Even when I win I'm not happy because I can see just how bad the enemy was.

I guess. But honestly, I didn't want to leave Kog'maw alone, I wanted to ruin him, and I did. He was completely useless that entire game. I just feel like if I can remove an enemy from the game, it should be a major victory, you know?
Anyway, of my owned tanks (Leona, Singed, Amumu), who should I try to become good with? I'm told Singed may be nerfed soon.

step 1 is to always duo queue.
and have the other person be the jungle if you're the solo
that way so long as the jungler is decent at ganking you don't need to be as dominant in your lane

realo some of your problems may stem from your itemization
kindlegem? kage's pick? wit's end? on leona? bleh. wit's end is somewhat debatable (but not really) but kinglegem and kage's lucky pick are really bad ideas. leona doesn't capitalize enough off of the AP from pick or having the money stolen by kindlegem to warrant it. she's a trinity tank through and through.
i'm also not too sure how long your games were, but the thing about leona is that while she is a CC bot, you should try to maximize your farm without stealing too much from your AD carries. having someone like leona who's strong point is initiation but melts is never a good thing. if you can get a decent amount of farm in, you should be able to rush trinity immediately after philo and HoG. get phage first for trinity and zeal or sheen second depending on what you need. then you build the more core tanky items after. if you think that trinity isn't tanky enough for her, then i can explain the (key) benefits for you:
Movespeed - this is actually crucial on her because the faster you move, the more reliably you can CC important targets who actually need to be CC'd. there is nothing worse than being just out of stun range of an opponent and them moving faster than you
Slow - someone being slowed after the stun is awesome and it gives you extra CC between cooldowns
Procs - just that extra oomph to make up for your relatively low damage (passive aside)
Her shield should be more than enough MR/armor to last you until you've finished trinity and can jump into something more serious. What's your skill order btw? I go E -> Q -> W -> W then max W, max E, and max Q last. You can clear minion waves at 9 or 10 with your EQ combo which is extremely handy so you should abuse that. You don't want to max Q before either of them because their damage is AoE, and E's stun is arguably more valuable than Q's. The more AoE you hit with the more damage you indirectly do because of your passive as well. you probably know this stuff but i'm just saying it to make sure i don't miss anything and in case someone else is wondering about leona. i had this discussion (although very very watered down) with peaf last week after i saw him go both kindlegem and kage's lucky pick >_<.

Kog is not a higher priority than Vayne. Kog gets owned so hard by so many champs because of his lack of escape. Like I said, it is an annoying thing for me to say, but you have to understand stuff like this. I am not saying you played badly, but making excuses won't help. There are unwinnable games, and this may have been one of them, but still try your best to learn.

You're saying you should get it once you've farmed up enough for it, but the problem with that is that the only place Leona can go without getting beasted on is duo bot, which isn't as terrible of an idea now since the support nerf. But her job is still to spoon feed the carry, set up kills, poke, and stay alive. W is an amazing boost of defense, true, but it's also your main tool for farming. The cooldown is long enough that you can accidentally screw yourself if you use it at the wrong time. 70 resists right off the bat is nice, but 70 resists on top of a Chain Vest and Negatron Cloak is better, and gives you good defense with your W still on cooldown.
For 170 more gold, she can buy a Banshee's Veil and a Glacial Shroud. That's just an example, but I'd rather have those items on a tank. Extra speed and slow be damned.

You don't want Glacial Shroud on Leona though. Like sure, it's a great item, but a Randuin's is way better on her for instance because she gets resists naturally, unless you absolutely, positively need dat stun as much as possible. That costs you 3k, which puts you in a large hole compared to TriForce already. Add a cata and you're over the cost. Remember that with W available, Leona wants health. For 2k, Phage + HoG gets you:
A) 400 health. Good. B) Slow. Good because it means your peel doesn't stop with your abilities. C) Damage. Also good because a tank with no damage is a tank with no threat.
In other words, the first or second Triforce component gives you literally all good stats. The first component also gives you two out of three good stats, and the third component gives you two out of three too. So you have 9 different stats and you make good use of 7. This makes TriForce an excellent purchase. Not rushed all at once mind you, but a quickie phage and maybe sheen are terrific on Leona.

I grabbed Wit's End because the game was over and I was carrying by that time.
When I play support Leona I grab: Philo Stone, Heart of Gold, Aegis of Legion, and a crap ton of wards. My W gives me 6 seconds of super tankiness and by that time the fight should be pushed one way or the other. When the 6 seconds end, if the enemy team wants to focus the Tank then that's fine, my carrys should...well...carry
