So what's the deal with nighttime stuff in P3? The Penguin Knight guide basically just says "this is how you should generally spend your time, and go to Tartarus when you need to", but I assume I need to meet certain social stat targets by certain times? Not really giving me a lot of confidence that I wouldn't screw up anything...!

Because the arcade games boost different stats at different days of the week, your social stat boosts over time end up somewhat predictable, so you don't really need to go out of your way to manage them as long as you're doing them whenever nighttime links are unavailable. And you can get most of the points you need for link requirements just by doing that constantly. The only real issue is making sure you have enough cash early on.

There should be a more precise guide out there somewhere, I would think. But it does pretty much boil down to 'play stat boosting game unless link is available, in which case do that, unless you haven't finished the current tartarus section, in which case do that'.

Are you talking about what's listed under General Flow of the Day?

There are only three S. Links in the entire game that have social stat requirements, and he tells you to max out those stats in the order you will need them, so just do what he says and you'll be fine.

Persona 3's a lot more simplistic in that regard than 4 and 5 are.

There's 9, IIRC. One for Rank 2, 4, and 6 of all the stats.

Re: That guide. IIRC, that one works though unfortunately you do need some knowledge of what you're doing. As Sceptile mentioned, night time generally revolves around the arcade because it has the best stat boosts. The upside of this is you can generally schedule around that. That guide mentions early on, and I think it's what you referred to with your concern, what you should be doing on what days. For instance, in the beginning Sun-Fri are dedicated to arcade and it says if you have to go to Tartarus do so on Saturday (while also providing you an activity for Saturday should you not go there.)

Optimally, you want to go to Tartarus as little as possible (so clear Tartarus until you reach the barrier and do Elizabeth quests in one go if you can) and also make sure you go on a "safe" day (Only Saturday at the beginning, as you max stats you get more freedom on this because you no longer have to visit the arcade for that stat)

Really the tougher thing here is making sure you have the money to keep going to the arcade nearly every day. It's costly, especially at the beginning. Since you are loosely in charge of your night schedule exactly how much money you'll need between trips isn't exactly set. You can try to ballpark it by looking ahead in the guide and picking out a day. For example, the guide sends you to Tartarus on 5/4 specifically. For simplicity's sake we'll assume only Saturday works. The Full Moon is 5/9 so you really don't want to come back before then. On the other hand the following Full Moon is 6/8 and you'll want to go to Tartarus at least once per full moon cycle. So we're looking at the period between 5/9 - 6/8. If we're only considering Saturdays that narrows it down to 5/16, 5/23, 5/30, and 6/6. 5/30 says it has a night event so cross that one out. Just 5/16, 5/23, and 6/6. You can kind of "pick" one of those days as a possible Tartarus day in the future and make sure you can afford the arcade until then + some buffer money.

Admittedly, some things can be a bit wacky with Tartarus like how you need at least one of Akihiko/Mitsuru to be around to be allowed to go and the guide doesn't seem to tell you when they're around. If that happens I think you just have to break with the guide, and use an arcade day for Tartarus and probably try to use a Saturday to damage control.

Social Stat management isn't too big a problem IIRC though. It's grinding the money to be able to always go to the arcade in early game and making 100% sure you follow the things the guide says/stay on track with the S-Links.

If you're just trying to beat the game look at suspicious points in your map to explore or deduce what item you'll need for the next big goal based on what you got recently. Isn't there a skull where the bosses are? I'm guessing you just need the maridia boss unless you didn't go to ridley's place yet.

Easiest way to get money in the early part of the game is from Tartarus, I'd guess, and from completing Elizabeth's requests.

Not sure how fatigue works in P3, but you'll definitely have to be careful. Sometimes going to the restroom can randomly get rid of fatigue. There's also a teacher at the school who can give you a concoction to get rid of it, but I'm not sure when that becomes available.

After watching the first episode of the Steins;Gate 0 dub, I am happy to report that the English cast is all present and accounted for!

In bonus news, one of the new characters is voiced by the same person who voices Tessa in Full Metal Panic, so that increases the chances she's back for that one! I'm honestly a lot more worried about the cast for that one than I was for S;G0 since they got all the cast back for the movie, and that was just a year ago. Honestly, as long as they get Chris Patton back as Sousuke, I'll be happy because I can't imagine anyone else voicing him.

Yes. Though I forget what effects being tired has on your non-Tartarus activities besides studying giving you no points. If you're tired and not studying that day, it's actually a benefit being tired. As Leon mentions at the school's nurse office the teacher there can give you stuff if you're tired. IIRC, it's a choice. The normal stuff fixes your condition, but the experiment gives you some courage points at no time cost (but doesn't fix your condition.) So if you really want to save scum you'd actually want to stay tired for a day or two to get the free points. After a few days though Tired either cures itself or makes you sick. Sick is no good IIRC and you should try to avoid it.

tl;dr: Yeah, if you want to avoid condition changes you'd have to save scum. You can min-max some stuff out of the Tired condition though but don't worry about it it's unnecessary.

Leon's right about Tartarus being the best place for money. I think the fastest way to farm is to reset the chests (might need to return to the lobby to do that, don't remember if simply leaving the floor and returning works) and hope you get money chests. It's a pain though. The money grind is the worst part about 100% on a fresh NG of P3, but thankfully it gets better later on. It's just the beginning that's rough.

Also Magician already seems super lame

yeah p3 has some groaners for s-links.

Portable as the female Protagonist greatly improves them by changing out most of the bad ones but welp.

Anyway, I've got the Spring Ball now, and I found the third reserve tank. I'm up to 115 regular missiles, 30 Super Missiles/Power Bombs, and 7 Energy Tanks. I was finally able to make it through that area in Norfair with the lava that leads to what appears to be Ridley's face as an entrance to a new area. I'm guessing a boss fight with Ridley is soon forthcoming, but I'll play more tomorrow.

okay I finally finished with all the Hyouka drama CD things so I've basically consumed all there is to consume with this series (aside from the manga I guess but whatever)

They were mostly parodies of themselves or other famous works, so it wasn't anything groundbreaking, but they were fun. I'm going to make one of the rare edits to my female character rankings because I've come to appreciate and enjoy Hyouka more and more over these past few months as I've read the books.

Got up to floor 14 of Tartarus and have a level 7 MC + around 40k yen. I'll probably spend another hour or so grinding treasure chests if I can find something good to watch while doing so.

My teammates got tired pathetically fast; luckily it was pretty easy to continue grinding solo.

Yeah, your teammates wear out super fast in the beginning.

Pro-tip: If you go the night before a Full Moon, you can't get tired since everyone is required for storyline stuff on the day of a Full Moon.

Also, you've probably already caught this, but just in case: if you go back to the main area of Tartarus, your HP/SP gets completely restored, which is nice, although if anyone is tired, they'll automatically leave.

That was a pretty good fight. Not too bad once I settled down and stopped trying to just shoot Missiles haphazardly in hopes of hitting him offscreen and once I got a better feel for his attack patterns.

Super Metroid beated! Whoo, my first ever Metroid game complete. That last boss sequence was pretty great. I actually died the first time because I guess you actually need to be able to survive that one big blast even though you can't avoid it, which is kinda weird.

I got 67% of items apparently, according to the end screen.

I guess I should rank Samus on the female character rankings since I probably won't be playing another Metroid for a while.
