I've been thinking about watching the new Legend of the Galactic Heroes that's airing this season but I was going to wait until it finished and see what people thought about it first.

I know, but I dont want sad realism in my crazy action anime. Joseph being so old he doesnt even know hes holding his cane and asking where it is just hurts man :(

Oh JONA and I are in part 4 too, we're a bit farther though. Cinderella just died for those that have seen it to know where we are.

Old Joseph is pretty cool in the anime. Wasn't that great in the manga though.

Figured this might happen after falling over a week behind, but I dropped Golden Kamuy. I like the story and characters, but the production value absolutely kills it. Probably doing myself a disservice by continuing to keep watching, so I'll wait until the manga is finished. If nothing else, it served as a good advertisement for the manga!

Totally keeping Persona 5 though.

Basically it introduced super high stakes overly absurd drama.

You know what it didn't introduce?

A harem.
Useless waifu characters.
A shitty child.
Kirito.

In case I don't though, it was me that was complaining about SAO Alternative and I stand by that. I agree that you can't necessarily draw one-to-one comparisons between every problem with SAO and something in SAO Alternative (not surprising because the former has 7 times the episodes).

My issue is mainly that many people have touted this as "SAO without any of the problems of SAO" which from my perspective is absolutely not true. And while I'll go into more detail later if I remember to make another post, I will say SAO Alternative has already managed to pretty cleanly exhibit all of the very large problems I had with portions of the GGO arc from the original SAO series.

Watched through Aggretsuko. Pretty solid show I suppose? The death metal stuff was all pretty fun, and there was solid development throughout. I liked that the older ladies became more important characters as the show progressed, especially Washimi. I didn't really like the setting though. Just felt kinda unpleasant in a lot of ways. Which is certainly intentional, just not enjoyable (for me).

When it comes to just the combat element, GGO is better.

I don't know if things will change, but up through the first big encounter, the rules of the game are pretty set in stone and the participants are all planning and reacting according to what's possible. They spend a number of episodes showing off the skills and mechanics and their drawbacks/limitations. That gave more believability to w/e they do in this game's world.

With SAO combat, because the stakes are so high, a greater number of outside factors and outright cheating are in play. This gets resolved through talents that weren't previously disclosed in the episodes (if they were in the LN that still doesn't help for anime viewers only), or last minute saves.

Plotting is a separate issue, because I can see why people would prefer higher stakes story arcs to self contained stories. But for just the battles, I'm gonna prefer GGO which sticks to a meta of sort, over SAO which removed a lot of the strategy and had Kirito brute forcing a lot of fights because he is so damn good at all the VR games.

I dont hate SAO, but it sure was super mediocre in the episodes I saw.

Every fight in SAO proper was Kirito flailing his arms around like a crazy person. Nothing I could even humor as a well choreographed fight. It was animation porn with absolutely no talent behind it.

Homura best grill so far.

I also don't trust Kyubey. I think it's because its face is an emotionless mask all the time so it look creepy as fuck. And it doesn't seem like it actually cares about the girls, especially the blue haired girl who it barely remembers exists half the time.

It's obvious Homura knows something but isn't saying it. Not sure why she won't just straight up out with it

I'll go ahead and say that I'm really not a fan of SAO Alternative right now, either. It started fine with a cute main character and decent-ish gun battles, but in my opinion it has fallen off a cliff these last few episodes. I'd rank it ahead of the SAO fairy arc but that's it. I hope it turns back around before the end.

Pito apparently being crazy has been explored so poorly. LLENN interacted with her a bunch and never came away with the opinion that she was a crazy monster person like all the shuddering dudes have. Every indication that she's crazy has come from long 'tell, don't show' info-dumps and that isn't good writing. This is also a terrible way to add tension in a story that really didn't need the threat of death. The first Squad Jam had tension even when there was no threat of death.

Of course, but it doesnt change what I said. So far Josuke just doesnt feel like he really matters much compared to the previous Jojo mains. He feels more like the friend of the main character
