I'm not as much of a fan of MHA, but my gf looooves it, so I'm forced to watch it with her.

I don't like insecurity as a character trait, and that seems like that that's 100% of the main characters personality, at least from the first season.
Also, god damn that's a slow plot.

I'm okay with waiting. Sure, I have burned through 43 episodes of My Hero Academia on lole 3 weeks, but now I'm going back with rhe old lady and I get to watch it all over again, so there is some fun in that.

With One Punch Man it is sad that it has taken so long for season 2 to arrive, but they switched animation studios between season 1 and 2, and that has caused rhe massive delay.

As for the complaint about Deku and his lack of confidence, it's better than having a main character who is an arrogant A hole. Besides he is the complete opposite of Bakugan who personality matches his quirk. I know it's a matter of personal preference, but give it some time, he gains confidence as the story progresses. It's a superhero origin story where a kid grew up normal in a world full of super powered beings everywhere, of course he has confidence issues.

Oh yeah, the thing I had *meant* to bring up when I talked about TDK -- and had occurred to me before and after -- is that I half-wonder if building a film library has been a waste since even with TDK I kinda added it to my queue where it sat for ages before I kinda prodded myself into watching it again... and, for the coup de grace, this was watching on NFI *despite* having owned the BR/DVD combo (with digital, but I never redeemed the code which has since expired) for years.

Caught the tail end of the gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red (The Witcher Series) on Twitch earlier this afternoon.

The game reminds me a combination of Deus Ex, System shock, and a little Bioshock with a lot of cussing and guns, plenty of guns. Guns and cussing in a pretty package and a lovely meat presented box and bow.

The one thing I took from this whole experience was that you are going to need a beyond high end PC to run the game to even close to high end settings. I personally do not want to drop 1,500 to 2,000 to play a game, but that's just me.

Granted the game looks fantastic, but it should for the 4 to 5 thousand dollar computers the game is being built on presently. I'm sure the game will come.out on PC (Of course) and Playstation 5 and whatever cute name Microsoft is going to give their next Xbone.

Ran across a copy of Irredeemable vol5 today which, while it had its faults, was more than interesting enough to get me to read the wikipedia page to learn the story

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irredeemable

I like some of the general concepts, which were ideas I'd kinda wanted to see played with in comics. (ie, the classic major, OP superhero goes rogue -- something *kinda* seen in Marvel with Sentry, as well as an alien invasion averted by making a sinister pact with the aliens.

It's going to be released on the PS4.

Which is precisely how I plan to play it fuck PC gaming.

I admit to being more interested in the game than I was yesterday, though I'm still not at 100% hype yet, because I've never been a huge cyberpunk fan, so in spite of enjoying the Witcher I'm not entirely sold on the setting or what I assume most of the quests/missions are going to be like.

Plus, while I'm happy about the fact that it's a game with character customization and an apparently acceptable female voice actor for the femme PC, I'm not entirely enthusiastic about the in-game "customization" where 90% of your body winds up being robot parts. I miss the meat.

Though at least she didn't spend most of the trailer going "I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS", so that's a plus (though, memes aside, my Adam Jensen didn't do that in my Human Revolution run either, as he mentioned to multiple people that his augs saved his life and made him feel way more powerful, so they were useful and appreciated. Being able to punch through walls and leap 20 feet in the air is very helpful when you're on a quest for revenge.)

Meat is overrated.
You can't replace meat as easily as you can with metal.

I am really excited about it though, I loved The Witcher 2/3, I loved it from just how much of a strong character that Geralt was. You could change the different flavors of Geralt, but you had hard personalities that you built your personal Geralt off of.
When you make the character's background, sex, and visuals all flexible, the base character can't be nearly as strong just from logistics.

Something I mentioned in the anime topic -- and now that this is otaku central, I'll mention it here too (especially since it partly has to do with my outlook these days on RPGs) -- is that I really want to get into Fate Grand Order.... but it just takes too damn long. The game is heavy on boring cutscenes with dialogue in addition to having a lot of annoying tutorials for the battle system.

I long ago reached the point where I don't want to spend a stupid amount of time learning the basics of playing a game, which is what's turned me off from a lot of RPGs in general these days. And in-game tutorials are a kind of annoying trend. I understand how they're meant to ease players in, but it's a somewhat aggravating way to go about it that sucks the fun out of things.

I prefer low-entry (ie, so you can get started playing quickly) and then deeper gameplay in the late game. The Pokemon games are kind of a good example in this regard since you can play through the campaign with relatively little knowledge or understanding beyond the basics yet, the second you get to something like a Battle Tower, you get your ass handed to you if you don't know what you're doing.

(And, in general, I like how the Fate series explains magic -- in terms of people being born with circuits where, even if a person has no ability to use magic, if they have the circuit power can be channeled through them. Particularly because the visual looks kinda cool in Fate/Stay Night.)

I'm sure I will get modded for that Cyberpunk 2077 link, but it's been years since my last moderation. I can stomach the 3 karma loss. If I get worse someone will have to takeover hosting duties. You regulars can fight over that. Either way that link isn't worse than anything I see on an episode of Supernatural, sans the profanity, which is not basic television.

Also, another trailer, but this one is fake, and contains no violence, nudity, or profanity.

tbh, I would be really hyped for the next Spidey game but I still haven't played the last few. Dimensions is still shrinkwrapped where I left it after buying it at a Black Friday sale. (Also haven't played Ultimate -- started it, then realized I should really read the comics first... and then bought a CD containing the comic run (presumably pirated) but never got around to checking it out. This is despite liking what little I had read of Ultimate Spidey in the past.) The last Spidey game I *think* I played -- not counting demos -- was Spider-Man 2 for the ps2.

I'm generally behind on everything, due to a mix of adulting, prioritizing (or not prioritizing) my media consumption, and then just getting sidetracked. That and I still need to fix that problem with one of my laptops.

I had little interest in the last couple Spider-Man games due to the invisible web-holds and such, though I heard Shattered Dimensions had good level design at least.

This game is not only bringing back webs that stick to real shit, but it's being developed by my favorite developer (who already proved with Sunset Overdrive that they can handle the open-world format and wacky aerial combat). It's a day-one buy for me.

Reorganized (and dusted) the Blu-Ray / DVD and video game shelves today. Very satisfying feeling.

During my breaks from cleaning, I sat down and put the original Persona in my PS1 for kicks. It moves a lot more quickly than I remember; I thought getting through the first dungeon (the Hospital) would take forever, but I managed it in less than an hour despite how clunky the game is.

Everything in FGO takes too damn long, IMO. People call it Fate / Grind Order for a reason. ... Because of that, after my phone died, that is one of the games I did not replace. Restarting that from the beginning is too much. *shrugs* I like the story, and I like the world-building, but I think I can get the bulk of that from reading the Wikia.

As huge Spider-Man fan I have played all the games, good, bad, and even terrible. So the thought of a Triple A Spider-Man game built from the ground up with an original story, and developed by Insomniac, well I'm excited.

Shattered Dimensions wasn't bad. Level design was solid. I liked Web of Shadows was so much fun, but it was buggy as hell, to the point where it was almost unplayable. The game froze more than I e Man in front of a girl or a guy, depending on the writer.

Still a bit shocked P.O. is Interested in the game, but Cyberpunk and Red Red 2 are a bit less of a shock. Hea y ot driven games with a variety of choices, that screams P.O.

Plus we are getting a Streets of Rage 4 too.

HBO and subsequently Cinemax are phasing out "Adult Entertainment."

It makes me sad because a whole generation of kids won't understand the term "Skinamax."

It happened after The HBO/AT&T merger. They claim that you can get adult content from a variety of different places, which is. Very true. Doesn't change my sadness though. But I'm sure some lonely man or woman wants to watch "Real Sex 15" or "Taxi Cab Comfessions" without the shame or a browser history.

I used to stay up late to watch those erotica movies back when I only had 56k internet.

Tried watching a few more recently; and it's painful to see so many obvious fake concrete breasts after years of having instant access to Big Naturals.

One thing I did notice was that in some of them, the production values have gone up. While it's still obviously framed so that there is no penetration on-screen, there were a couple that had better framing where it actually looked somewhat plausible that actual sex was happening.

While I guess it offers some protection against hackers, it sounds like an unbelievably stupid system. I would honestly try to log in on your other device and, if it doesn't work, file a support ticket... well, unless you're just done with the game at this point.

tbh, it sounds like they have some limited time Prisma Illya or something event going on so I *kinda* want to give it one last try. I might just skip through all of the dialogue and then read it on a wiki or something afterward. I assume that most story decisions have little impact on the game, other than servant type for the first servant.

Odd random question:

If we assume that "helmsman" is the term used to describe someone who steers a ship in the Age of Sail, while "navigator" is also a term used to describe someone who steers a ship in the Age of Sail (neither is 100% correct, but it's close enough), which one sounds more like what a pirate crew would call the role, and which sounds more like what a professional merchant ship would call the role?

I have my own opinion, but I'm kind of curious what other people think.

Surgeon/Ship's Physician - does "Physician" feel appropriate for the Age of Sail? Or is that a bit too "modern"? If both are acceptable, would Surgeon be more pirate-y while physician is more merchant-y, or the other way around?

THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!

I know I meant to mention this in the last topic, but I don't remember whether or not I posted it, and if I did, I don't know if you saw it and replied or missed it, because I don't remember seeing you ever respond to the idea.

Are your dialysis issues so severe that the only way to deal with it was a chest/needles situation? Because I used to know someone who had a specific tap surgically inserted into his wrist/arm, so when he'd have to go in for dialysis once or twice a week, they literally just plugged into his pre-existing nozzle and it was way easier. Obviously, it still fatigued the hell out of him whenever he had it done, but I don't remember him having the same sort of problems you seem to have.

No clue if that was ever discussed with you, or if your doctor might have dismissed it out-of-hand because you're a more severe case, or if maybe your doctor is just kind of an idiot. But I figured I'd mention it in case you weren't aware and maybe wanted to bring it up with your doctor.

I was always under the impression that in that era the best you could hope for was a barber/bonesaw. I wasn't aware "surgeon" was technically a thing prior to germ theory being accepted since in that era it was unthinkable to ask a "doctor" to wash his hands prior to reaching into a wound because a gentleman was not "dirty" and it was beyond the pale to insinuate such to the point where a duel would be the result of such a claim.

If I missed your response P.O. I would like to apologize.

So, I use to have one of those catheters in my neck when I first started dialysis like 4 or 5 years ago. Then I got one in my upper right chest, and it is not as effective as the needles or as safe. Scarlett was worried about pulling it out during her sleep, she is a wild sleeper, but I will save that for another post, and I could only sleep on my back or side because if I rolled over wrong the cath could come out, and I could bleed to death in my sleep because it is connected to my arteries, and has a direct line to ly heart.

One time the chest catheter actually did come out when I was in the hospital. I had bed sores on my back, and so I rolled over to get off my back and onto my side, and I rolled onto the catheter, and bam it came out. There was blood everywhere, and for like the 5th or 6th time I almost died. Because no matter how much you scream or press the call button the nurses and techs do not come fast enough.

After that I got a catheter on my stomach for home dialysis. However, it turns out my body stored a tremendous amount of liquid. As I no longer make urine all the fluid stays with me, and it turns out everything is fluid. While the toxins did come out of my body during the home dialysis the fluid stayed with me, and I almost died again. My left foot got Infected, and u lost half of my left foot and my pinky toe on that foot. (Ironically, I don't have my right foot, and my left one still works, well half of it anyway.)

Now previously I had two graphs in my arm fail, one in each arm. The left one failed so bad I almost had my left arm cut off. In fact my left hand is permanently numb because of the restricted blood flow from that failed graph. I'm never going to be able to properly play fighting games again. (Street Fighter for example) After the two failed in my arms, and the one in my stomach, and the limited time that the chest catheter can work, they had to do a hail Mary and put one in my chest, it's called a "Necklace" or "Rosary" graph.

Now my choices were on my thighs, right or left, or in my back at the base of my spine. (F That) The chest graph won out in the end, and after all of that; it is why I get stuck with very sharp needles in my chest 3 times a week, 4 hours at a time.

If I missed your response P.O. I would like to apologize.

Is cool. Like I said, I'm not even sure I posted it last time around.

I only brought it up in case I HAD mentioned it before, and you were like DAMN IT, YOU ALREADY ASKED THAT OLD MAN! GO SIT YOUR ALZHEIMERY ASS IN THE CORNER AND BE QUIET!

For super old-timey bonus points, you can even spell it chiurgeon!

But yeah, "surgeon" technically goes all the way back to Latin/Rome, and "physician" is at least a thousand years old as a term as well. Granted, the original words didn't strictly mean the same thing they mean today, but the idea of a person who practices medicine (itself a word that goes back to Latin/Rome) was definitely there.

Bonus fun-fact: The word "physic" is a somewhat obsolete term used to describe medicines (usually herbal medicines), while medicine itself is derived from "medicus", which is the original Latin term for someone who DOES medicine (in other words, it basically means "doctor").

I AM FILLED WITH TOO MUCH USELESS INFORMATION. THIS IS WHY I CANNOT REMEMBER WHAT POSTS I HAVE MADE IN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD TOPICS.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must go back to reading articles about feudal era Japan and ethnic distinctions in fantasy settings, for no obvious discernible reason.

Slow news day so I will talk about a conversation I had with my wife a few months back. In this scenario I will play me, and she will play her.

Scarlett: What would happen if we won the lottery?

Me: I would have homeless people fight each other to the death for my amusement.

S: Seriously.

M: I am serious. Depending on my mood I would have them dip their tape wrapped hands in broken glas, and continue the fight, Kickboxer style.

S: (Dirty look) I mean how would we raise our kids?

M: Oh that. Yeah, we would raise them in severe poverty.

S: What?

M: We would pretend we are very poor, and raise them humble as hell. When they are 18 we would tell them they were rich all along, and send them off to college.

S: Are you serious?

M: Absolutely. We would have a whole secret lair under the house with our fancy food, drink, and electronics, and upstairs we would have broken furniture, wat bologna sammiches, and deink kool aid. Just like when I was a kid. Maybe even throw in some roaches to really sell the poverty.

S: That's messed up.

M: But they wouldn't be spoiled entitled little *****!

What do you all think?

I'd combine the two ideas and have the kids fight each other to the death to earn your respect and affection.

tbh, most fortunes are lost a few generations a generation or two in because the wealth is split between many wasteful descendants.

*ponders*

Did the term chirurgeon make it to the Age of Sail? *looks it up* The term dates to the late 1200s, if I am reading this correctly, but there are examples of it being in use into the 1700s (including one example from Privateering and Piracy in the Colonial Period), so it is at least plausible, IMO.

Meanwhile, I had a classic Dungeon Master folly yesterday. I had a perfectly good dungeon full of back story hooks (both for the general plot and for individual characters), puzzles to solve, traps to foil, all of that, and one player got sulky and made the party just go all the way to the bottom floor, get what his character needed, and get out (because he dislikes dungeon crawls, though I designed this one to be short). ... 'Tis a bummer to see my work go to waste, but this happens. Alas!

No idea. I usually think of that spelling being more of a faux ye oldey time medieval sort of thing, not so much a thing by the time we hit the buckling of swashes.

Was he being surly and kind of dickish about it? Like, everyone else wanted to explore but he was being really obstructionist?

Because in that case I would have absolutely deliberately fucked him over and had what he was looking for not be where he thought it was supposed to be, and then leave absolutely no clue where it was for him to follow up on. Because that sounds like an asshole player, and asshole players need to be punished (and preferably cut away like a tumor).

But if it was more just a case of him being "Hey, let's just go get the thing and leave", and everyone else was okay with the idea because they weren't overly invested either, that's different. Then it's just PCs being their usual unpredictable and rebellious selves.

But a player actively being disruptive and going against what the group wants to do, and digging in their heels and acting surly until the group just goes along with them out of disgust is a huge no-no for me. Especially if they're the sort of player who basically demands that you cater to their interests, but then basically shut down any session where you're catering to a different player's interests.

He was being a little surly, and he is that type of player ("I'm the main character whether you like it or not"), but I will take partial blame for the party agreeing with him, since they burned all of their Dispel Magic slots on the first two floors and were nervous about what else I might have had waiting for them below.

I feel like I'd go out of my way to push him back, and actively point out that the game is a group effort. Then if he still keeps pushing that way, then just murder his PC and/or boot him from the game.

Having one PC sort of grab the spotlight as the obvious "leader" of a group is fine if most of the other players are more passive and willing to be supporting cast in someone else's story (or are just uncomfortable being center-stage themselves), but if it feels like they're just being a selfish attention hog I'm less likely to give them what they want solely to punish them for being an asshole.

I'm very much of the mindset that RP is a cooperative game, and even the GM exists as someone to help you tell a great story rather than an adversarial presence who is trying to "beat" you, but in the same vein I view problem players AS adversaries who it is my job to punish precisely because they ruin stories and experiences for everyone else.

I want players to have stories they can remember and reminisce about for years to come, and tell war stories about awesome things that happened to their characters, not just talk about how someone else's character did cool things while they were also there.

To coin a LOTR comparison, I want every player to be Aragon or Frodo, but I don't want anyone to be Pippin (unless they really want to be).

Scarlett says that having homeless people fight to the death for my amusement on a private island is the following.

Illegal (With money I can make it legal.)

2. Amoral (I'm giving them food and shelter before the battle. Plus a job. I'm helping the world.)

3. She will not support this, and will snitch on me. (Snitches get stitches.)

Therefore, I guess I need another pass time for when I become uber rich. I need suggestions.

That would be immoral, not amoral. Amoral isn't morally wrong as much as it is morally ambivalent.

Speaking of morality, I started watching The Good Place which (major revelation near the end of s1) is like a super long-form version of a Twilight Zone episode since the "Good Place" turns out to actually be one of the Bad Place's experiments -- a twist I occasionally considered, but mostly because I was kinda looking for a twist -- and ultimately it made a mediocre comedy starring Kristen Bell into something really neat especially given how season 2 starts.

I'm also *very* happy I didn't accidentally spoil things for myself since there have been a few times I was tempted to wiki it to see if it was going to keep getting seasons, among other things... although I did spoil something in season 2 for myself because, well, I wanted to confirm Kristen was spelled Kristen instead of Kristin because I can never remember and foolishly looked down to her character's entry instead of just googling the name

The Good Place is also somewhat relevant because a major plot point involves the concept of good motives vs bad ones -- ie, a selfish motive negates a good deed -- which is something that's occasionally been discussed during the usual alignment talks

Also, Kristen Bell is starting to look old. Apparently she's only 38 now but when I first saw her, I didn't recognize her at first. She kinda reminded me of Claire from Modern Family.
