Joe Mauer announced his retirement, which isn't a surprise to anyone, but something kinda interesting is that a few hours ago a guy on the Twins subreddit broke the news seemingly before any reporter or the Twins organization did (Twins just did 20 minutes ago https://twitter.com/Twins/status/1061038726095216640)

I read that subreddit casually, but I recognize this guy because he posts all the time, seems to know a ton about the Twins, and is pretty grouchy/rude. But he was right and said it before anyone else..makes me wonder who he is and how he got his sources

Joe Mauer is cool. Great career. Considering how few catchers are in the Hall of Fame I think he's got a great case for it based on peak just not longevity.

Thanks for asking, but luckily no. That stretch of forests that are catching fire north and east of me are somewhere around 100-150 miles away, and I don't think there's enough foliage and whatever else for it to spread closer to the bay.

That said, it does look real scary and I hope they can be contained soon, for other people's sake.

Well glad to hear you're ok at least. But yeah what I've read is really crazy and I worry about the sick, elderly, disabled or just the uninformed who can't or don't leave their homes in time. Crazy shit.

I kind of get it living in tornado country. When the big one finally comes no one is going to believe that it's really the big one because we're too used to it by now. That's why people died in Joplin like 10 years ago or whatever, a tornado absolutely laid waste to the town but Missourians are just used to going meh, no big deal, worst case we have to sit in the basement for a few hours

Also if you don't have a car or money or family out of town you can stay with it's not easy to escape, plus even if you have those things I'm sure the highway is totally jammed

Mega Man 10. I beat X2 before going to bed last night. The final boss fights were nowhere near as hard as X1's. I guess it would've been harder if I'd had to fight Zero though

MM10 is weird. I think it's probably good but playing it after MM9 it just seemed kind of pointless. Maybe I'll play it again soon since I got the legacy collections recently, but the ones I really should be playing are the X series. I haven't played only 7 and 8 of the main classic series

I'm playing it because I wanted to have charge shot, which you could only have in Mega Man 9 by beating it in the Legacy Collection or entering a cheat code, and mama didn't raise no cheater. It's fun though, hard as nails though.

Plus Proto Man is way cooler than Mega Man. Also Zero is way cooler than X. What is it with the title character of these series being shown up?

Carmelo is imploding the Rockets and the TWolves are stupid to not take their deal, assuming it was still on the table. I sometimes wonder if teams in these situations try to alter the deal or back out when everyone and their mom is telling them they're getting fleeced.

It doesn't help. Everything is dry which is making the fire spread much faster than it normally would. I think the main reason the fires start is because of idiots who can't control their campfires, or people throwing cigs out the window, etc.

Update on my current condition: It's really smoky and unpleasant outside. When I was in San Francisco today, I saw dozens of people wearing masks to protect their lungs.

So unless somebody has been pulling off an elaborate hoax behind all these leaks, N64 Classic is definitely coming. Thoughts?

Obviously I'll revisit once the official details are out, but I can't really picture any amount of games that would make me interested in this. SNES Classic was cool because I never actually played a lot of those games, and it's an era that aged well. NES Classic was a mildly regrettable purchase but if/when I mod it I think there are a lot of decent hidden gems. But I already played pretty much all the top-tier N64 games and beyond those it's a pretty shitty library (even a lot of the good games are a mess now).

If they modernize the controller (better analog stick, maybe built-in rumble) and add some kind of graphical enhancements I might be interested. Or I guess it could be a decent thing to ask for for Xmas but I don't know if I'd buy it myself

You know what would also be cool? Controller pak support to import your old saves, but then again most of the games that are likely to be on there only let you save to the cartridge (not that that's a bad thing)

Honestly, you'd only need GoldenEye and Star Fox 64 to hold me over.
