I'll try to provide extremely insightful, articulate commentary as well that will wow you. If you suspect I won't know anything about the character, you can post a picture and I will rate the character based off of said image. Who knows? You might intrigue me enough to learn more. Unless it's anime-related. I tend to have no interest in that particular medium. You're welcome to nominate characters from it still, but expect to need to provide a picture.

Long story short, if I don't know who a character is and there's no picture attached, I'm just giving the character a low score and moving on. So when in doubt, pictures!

Flash Gordon

Rating: 70 out of 100

You gotta respect the classics, and the pulpy science fiction campiness can sometimes really come across as majestic. There's a certain sense of wonder in old science fiction tales from the early 20th century. He doesn't have a particularly great amount of depth, but Gordon's luckily lives in a genre that I adore, and that helps.

Rating: 31 out of 100

There are times where The Miz is absolutely terrifying in the Marine franchise. Terrifying in the sense that there's no way this guy who claims to be a marine has any real military training. But there are other moments where the movies get so bad they're almost, almost, ALMOST entertaining. And then you get to that scene in Marine 5. With no build, no real fallout, THAT scene was absolutely abysmal and such a poor cap to the Miz's maritime run. Overall, a lackluster character.

I haven't played either Revelations game, so smart choice adding a pic. Of course, knowing nothing about this character, I see a child with a stuffed animal. I can only suspect there are escort missions of the worst possible nature, and crying. I hate crying. Grow up.

As a joke, it's Audrey is an amusing character. As a concept, Audrey is a sound character. As anything else, it's a series of diminishing returns. How do you rate this sort of one-note character against, say, Mercutio? Or Yossarian? Or Jean Valjean? For me, I'm taking into account that 50 is average, and this character moves the needle slightly for me. Little Shop is an enjoyable little musical, but it's certainly not one of my favorites by any means. And while I do have a visceral response to summoning up the name of Little Shop (plants), but I think my mind quickly moves to how great Steve Martin was. And therefore Audrey lands in the middle of the pack.

Liz Lemon (30 Rock)

Rating: 88 out of 100

I absolutely love Lemon. When I first watched 30 Rock, Jack was my favorite character, but over time, Liz has really turned into the character for which I thirst for more screen time. She develops in parallel with Jack, and watching her evolution out of a state of arrested development is at times almost moving. The secret to Lemon is the genuine pathos that Tina Fey creates. She's a character you don't necessarily root for always, but she's definitely one you understand. And that makes a lot of difference for a show as ungrounded as 30 Rock. The reason the show can be so screwball and batty is that, at its center, is the story of a thirtysomething trying to figure a path in both her personal and professional life. It resonates even though I'm not in the same place in my life as she is in hers.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Rating: 94 out of 100

Because all Patrick Stewart does is bask in the adulation of the masses, I can't help but be a little contrarian today and say that there is something about Picard that kind of sucks. His relationship with Crusher just never really exuded actual chemistry. Some fault for that lies at the feet of Gates McFadden, but I think Patrick Stewart often misreads romantic scenes as intimate friendship instead, and it's just a mismatch. So that's where he loses 6 points.

Rating: 82 out of 100

A fantastic part of Deep Space Nine, Garak is probably my second or third favorite original character from that series. (I have an unreasonable amount of love for O'Brien. I don't know why.) In any event, Garak is a character that involves a long, subtle slow-burn story arc that is quite unique for any Star Trek series, and I admire the amount of patience the writers had to allow his story to unfold logically and without too much of Star Trek's trademark done-in-one attitude that plagues a lot of characters on later series.

Okay, when you take one of my favorite hidden gem actors and you throw him into the conceptual role of a lifetime, you're bound to land some solid gold. Mayhem is this hard-edged, spiteful version of Loki that I really like. His representation of chaos gives a little bit of malevolence to this godlike figure. It's an evil version of Hermes in a lot of ways, and his mercurial behaviors really just make him an enduring and endlessly entertaining advertising character. There really aren't any other interesting characters in that medium, are there?

Rating: 64 out of 100

I watched a lot of The Middle, so you didn't actually need a picture? Frankie is about par for the course with Debra Barone in terms of quality of character. What separates the two, however, is an inherently different perspective on families. Debra is cold, hard-edged, negative. Frankie, at her core, is optimistic. Too often she gets dragged down into the drudgery of the mundane trenches of daily life, but you can always find a certain amount of grace and love she has for her family. Which do I prefer? I'm leaning towards Debra. But I'd rather watch The Middle than Everybody Loves Raymond, and Frankie is much more crucial to that show, so it's a real toss-up.

Having recently replayed Metal Gears Solid 1 and 2 (that's the plural by the way. It's like postmasters general), I'm falling out of love with the character of Snake. Maybe Snake is one of those characters you love as a teen, when you're rebellious and edgy. Once you (finally) start maturing, he just feels hollow, devoid of any real substance. The Metal Gear games have really lost a lot of luster in my eyes over the last several months, and I think Snake has suffered as a result.

Have you ever turned off a show because of one character? I have. Abysmal. Boring. Clumsy. Lacking any substance whatsoever. Uninteresting in every capacity. The functional value of Khali is to serve as the focus of cruel drinking games. Drink every time Khali botches. Drink every time Khali moves like Frankenstein. Drink every time Khali proves to be so utterly inane that you feel the need to drink.

I have absolutely no respect for Stanley as a character. In a show where people are constantly portrayed as being detached and disinterested in everything around them, Stanley really highlights what I most hate about every character embodied in one individual on the show. While there are occasional glimpses of humanity in Stanley (and his interactions with Ryan are priceless), I find a lot of his attitude distasteful. What I think most tanked Stanley for me was his consistently unrepentant attitude on cheating. In a lot of ways, Stanley is the most static character on the series (aside from Jim, honestly), and that makes him the worst character. He kills the joke and the mood so often for me. He's just a little too caricature for me on that show.

The reason I stopped watching Seinfeld. Too broad, too cartoonish. He feels like a character made for the ADD part of the audience that has a hard time sitting through the longer burning sitcom beats that feature Elaine or Jerry. Overall, just the sort of character I really dislike that other people seem to adore. It's fine. It's not a judgment of others. But I'd rather watch a show that is reliant on some subtlety and nuance, and Kramer consistently kills that for me. He's a Vaudeville guy in a Broadway world.

I don't particularly LIKE Satan, but I respect the hell out of Milton's depiction. I love the subtext and musing on heroism embodied in Satan's arc throughout PL. When I read the Bible, I was struck by how much I liked Pontius Pilate as a character. I think Satan is a similar character. There's a lot to dissect, a lot to learn about the nature of us as human beings, a lot to think on after you close the cover. That's the sign of a fantastic character, even if the character doesn't particularly strike a chord of personal taste for me.

Rating: 18 out of 100
Awful. Absolutely awful. I also think the movie Inside Out creates some moral arguments against which I have to level some objections. Every emotion isn't valuable, at least in the very dumbed down presentation created here. In my life, the concept of sadness is something I think eradicating would do me a lot of good. I leap on that sort of emotional grenade if it meant that the only casualty would be the source of depression. Not every emotion is valid, nor does every emotion deserve a shot to pilot things. And this movie did nothing to make me think that Sadness brought anything to the table at all.

Like zoinks guys, Shaggy's a pretty righteous dude. In fact, he's probably the biggest key to what makes the Mystery Machine gang work so well. Shaggy is supporting cast member in more than one way. He supports the cast by allowing them all to play off of him in different ways. More than Scooby (who is pretty one-note), Shaggy is allows human interactions that demonstrate what makes each cast member valuable. So that's nice I guess.
