Magical Girl Special Forces Asuka beated. Not quite a good show, but almost. The main characters were fun, and the harem elements were amusing for this kind of show. It was usually good when it was focusing on them. The main problem was that the villains were really shitty and got a lot of screentime for whatever reason. The two later villains who actually got development were better at least, but I still generally felt like the villains were more powerful than they should've been and also absurdly evil. Their should've been more of the good guys actually attacking people in general. Was weird that got so little focused.

Kurumi was the main good part overall. Was super fun to have a good guy who did such evil things.

In the romantic comedy series, Amatsuyu Kirasagi is invited out alone by the cool beauty upperclassman Cosmos and his childhood friend Himawari. Expecting to hear their confessions, he triumphantly goes to meet each of them in turn. But Cosmos and Himawari both instead confess to Amatsuyu that they like his friend. I've been reading valxlove. it's pretty much like hxh or magika no kenshi to shoukan maou with the girls powering up from the mc taking them on dates or doing ecchi things, although it doesn't go as far/gets as explicit as either of those series. also the mc tends to freak out and mess up on dates/during ecchi scenes because he's got an acute fear of people because he was bullied/shunned (since he looks like he came out of attack on titan).

Penguindrum complete. First half was really good, and basically everything with Ringo from episodes 2-8 was the highlight. I would watch 100 episodes of yandere Ringo being Ringo, no problem. I'd watch another series with an actual villain version of Ringo. She's absolutely nuts and everything to come out of her mouth or her head is great in more ways than one. Her backstory is also imo the best of the bunch. All this makes it a bit disappointing when she becomes more reasonable and normal. However, the second half just wasn't as enjoyable, at least to me. For starters, there was less humour/character/mystery focus, and more 'dramatic' twists, reveals, and conflict. Unfortunately, I feel like once it got grittier and more dramatic, it just didn't have the character and lacked something that was there before. I didn't really get many "holy shit" moments either, cause many reveals were handled clumsily or dumped in quick succession. Child abuse was the generic background story for everyone (guess there's only so many options for tragic backstories when your characters are mostly children). I get that there's themes running through which make that fit, but it's predictable and has always irritated me a little when overused. The foreshadowing ranges from excellent to nonexistent (at least to me, although I've only just finished and so may not have had time to think of particular moments). Oh, and there's a lot of romantic subplots or subtext going on there particularly in the second half. Most of it's forced, underdeveloped, incestuous, kinda but not really incestuous, or several of the above. Thanks, Japan.

I feel kinda bad for focusing more on the negative here cause I did have a lot of fun overall. The art and OST/OPs/EDs were great. I think it's creative as hell, and the story is excellent in concept even if the execution was lacking at points. Worth my time, although it probably isn't enjoyable for everyone. Don't remember who recommended it, but thanks for the suggestion.

I agree that normal Ringo was less good.

I didn't care for the backstories of the main two guys, or some of the arcs they took. Yuri and Momoka were great though.

It's been a while since I watched Penguindrum so I don't remember pretty much any of the details but in general I thought the series was based on the terrorist incident where cultists released sarin gas on the tokyo subway. (which I don't really know much about either) hence all the train/station imagery, apple imagery because the characters are tainted with "original sin" since the cult/terrorist attack the parents were involved with was what brought them together, they were railroaded into the "fate" of repeating the terrorist attack again because of their parent's "sin" but in the end they were able to escape from their fate and the influence of the cult back onto the traditional Buddhist cycle of absolving sin through reincarnation I guess.

buuuuuut like I said I don't really remember much of the series and could be wrong on a lot of the SYMBOLISM and such because of that and not really bothering to actually look stuff up >_>

Sumo and Yuuna are possible contenders but they don't feel close enough to their finales yet. Highly suspecting Soma ends in the next couple of weeks, or one of the comedy series eats it.

I think Maria Watches Over Us is great as well, though I did prefer Bloom Into You. (I'm also not even 100% sold on classifying Marimite as a yuri series? You would have to use a pretty strict standard to classify it as not yuri though, and I would label it as yuri myself.)

I also think Madoka Magica is a better anime than Bloom Into You, since Madoka is like a top 5 series of all time for me. It's...not a yuri show by pretty much any reasonable standard, however.

I agree on Madoka being better (although I rate Bloom into You pretty high too), but it's definitely not Yuri. Same with Hibike which was also there but a bit lower. Hibike is actually a bit of a fuck you to the whole yuri genre considering it basically just has a shitton of Yuri bait and then gives the main girls romantic subplots with guys which are some of the weaker parts of the series.
