If he's a War Master, even with his personal in effect he'll lose like 2/3s of his health to some of the enemy War Masters late in the game. At level 41 he "only" has about 30 defense. Silver Gauntlet dudes can get close to 50 attack, I think the ones with battalions can even get above 50. Fortress Knight can tank a lot better but then he can barely move and has way less offense, and he's still not taking close to zero damage.

That sounds both terrifying and thrilling! I'm only a couple of chapters past the time skip and while there was a noticable bump in enemy strength, I'm still wishing the game would throw out something that's even a remote threat to my troupe of gods. Lunatic should he interesting whenever it comes out!

Yes, Hilda is better off as a Wyvern Rider -> Wyvern Lord, mainly because Wyverns are so damn good in general.

Just finished chapter 17 of Edelgard route...

For all the talk I've heard of this route making her seem more sympathetic, it's actually done the opposite. Sure you get the usual friendly light hearted moments along the way, but that doesn't mean much. Her A support with Ferdinand basically spells out that she doesn't even have a real plan for after the war, she just wants to get rid of nobility and has never even considered how to make society run smoothly after she does so.

And her conversation with Dimitri is like, the most detestable thing imaginable. She just bitches about how wrong he is to be obsessed with her (gee Edelgard, it's almost like you forced him to be obsessed with you by invading his kingdom, killing all his friends, and allying with the people who murdered his whole family. He isn't even that crazy on this route!), acts like "why do you fight back when I kill you huh" is a good response to "why must you continue to conquer" and has the gall to bemoan that he wasn't born in a peaceful time where he could have been a good king...you know, which she prevented from happening. Without a clear plan for what she's trying to achieve. While allying with the people actually most responsible for the awful things they've both been through. While basically just being a big racist who hates non-humans deciding human history but is conveniently totally cool with letting someone who isn't truly human deciding history because s/he's her friend.

She actually comes across way worse on this route. On the others she seems committed to her goal and you don't see enough of her to know otherwise. On this one, she seems like a delusional, short sighted, misguided hypocritical self-absorbed asshole. Definitely a great villain, haven't hated a fictional character this much in a while, but man oh man I do not get why people think this makes her seem likable or heroic.

The only thing you get from mastering Sniper is a Combat Art that, while great, can't be used by any other class

I didn't have as extreme a reaction as this, but I do agree that Edelgard came out of her route looking less sympathetic than when I started it. Still a better option than Rhea, who is certifiable, but not by that much.

Crimson Flower Route

It's heavily implied that Edelgard relies less on the Agarthan's help in her route than the others. Less use of crest beasts, outright murking Cornelia under their noses, stuff like that. Hence why the war is more of a stalemate in Crimson Flower as opposed to Imperial domination in the other three routes. Hubert is already planning on taking care of them after the war, and it's rather unreasonable to try and deal with them while fighting Rhea.

(Although I could make a case for having a chapter to clear them out after chapter 16 since in theory Hubert should be able to track them to Shambala like in other routes)

Anyways, I don't think Crimson Flower is meant to change anyone's mind regarding Edelgard. You either think she's got some good ideas or you don't. It's not so much "Hey, this is why Edelgard was 100% right to declare war and Rhea suck ass", rather its "Hey, this is what it would look like if Edelgard had Byleth in her corner". That's my take on it.

I'd rather have Rhea myself. She only goes psycho when she gets betrayed by her...child/mother/grandchild (the relationship between her and Byleth is wack), reminding her of that whole "genocide of her almost her entire race" thing. Edelgard is a lot more calculated in choosing to go to war, allow research into turning people into monsters and allying herself with the actual most evil people in the setting. Rhea when she's sane is not perfect by any means, but she's not going out of her way to start continent spanning wars at least. Plus having played the GD route already I know Edelgard is outright wrong about a lot of things. Her take on Seiros' relationship with humanity is totally skewed by her lack of knowledge of why Seiros actually went to war with Nemesis.

Rhea is psycho long before the game even starts. Mass executions of non-nobles that oppose her, supports the crest system that strangles the nobility, repeated experimentation on people to try and resurrect her dead mom, forces Seiros knights to be infused with her blood which can (and does) turn them into monsters. There's just better PR in her corner.

After 125 hours I finally finished all four routes.

I'm going to post who the flame emperor is since I'm p sure everyone in this topic already knows but just in case

Spoilers below


(and it's honestly not much of a spoiler. The game does try to fake you out by making all the house leads seem like the flame emperor, but honestly I think the game is mildly worse for it)

First let me start out by saying I really enjoyed the game, when it was a game. The majority of the hours spent were pretty much waiting for the bad loading times and running around the monastery. The latter part was big big hit or big big miss. It was cool having every character say something unique for every chapter on every route, but because it was spread so thin all the good interactions didn't really get a chance to shine. Most were "Wow professor we're going to fight in this place? I trust you to lead us well!" and maybe 10% was fun things like Bernie asking us to exile her dad or Rapheal lamenting eating too much fish.

And that's pretty much the game's biggest flaw, the maps are fun but it takes near a half hour of prep work to even get to them (assuming you're skipping through cutscenes/ignoring as many side tasks as you can like I did, if you want to take your time it's even longer) Skipping explore isn't even possible in many of the early chapters.

The difficultly is pretty barebones even when the game is at it's hardest. I like the rewind function but the game should be more challenging to make up for it. There are so many crazy skills in this game, but enemies rarely have anything outside of bosses and monsters. It's a shame because the paralogues for the most part are PERFECT in difficulty, but playing them gives you so much exp that it makes the rest of the game baby easy.

I think Edelgard might be the scariest villain in video game history, since this game has four different alternate timelines to outline the various different ways in which she's evil, but there are STILL people in the real world who defend her actions "for the greater good." In a way it's a really depressing thing to go on a game board and have a political discussion that mirrors a real world argument even when all the facts are presented clearly in front of people. What does it say about the futility of debating real world politics in a world where no side could possibly know the facts? The whole concept just really unnerves me.

There's lots of minor flaws that come with this game that make a fun game kind of a tedious chore to play. IS has a weird history with going backwards in QoL upgrades (support and inventory management was perfect in the GBA games, how are they so much worse in Echos/Houses?) Little things like the game absolutely refusing to let you keep "unarmed" equipped, and the forge/repair system being really tedious in a game where you just blast through weapon durability, and not being able to check the ability you just gained in battle, or how many fights you have left to master a class, and reclass options being under "inventory" (I had no idea you could reclass at the monastery until my third playthrough) and not being able to reclass from the certification screen, and not being able to purchase seals at the cert screen. I could probably go on with this paragraph until I run out of characters, but I think I got my point across.

Ok one more, why did they give us amiibo music and then grey it out for all but the battles that there is never a need to play?? (also where's "Road Taken"??)

All in all, I liked it, but it's somewhere around my bottom three fire emblems near Shadow Dragon and Radiant Dawn, which is weird because those are games that are bad for almost the exact opposite reasons as three houses.

Bernadetta was the best girl btw. Flayn is a very close second. Marianne is a comfy bronze.

I think Crimson Flower should've locked in earlier than it is

Getting to it is such nonsense. There's no real logic to protecting Edelgard after she's already attacked you in the Holy Tomb. Best I can think of is "Hey, killing is a bit extreme, why not try to interrogate her?"

Really, Crimson Flower should've been locked in the moment you choose to go to Enbarr with Edelgard. Then, you can have a series of events where Edelgard reveals herself as the Flame Emperor privately and warns Byleth that Rhea is planning on doing something to them with the "divine revelation".

Then, once the mission occurs, when Byleth sits in the throne and Rhea laments that nothing happens, Edelgard confronts Rhea on what she was trying to do, rather than launch a raid of Crest Stones. Citing the contents of Jeralt's diary that Byleth shares with her, Edelgard can declare she won't let Rhea turn Byleth into a church puppet, driving Rhea into a rage and causing her to attack the class in her dragon form. Chapter 11 then turns into an Escape mission instead of a Boss kill mission.

In theory, this gives Edelgard at least the plausible excuse of declaring war in self-defense, as she and Byleth will have been branded heretics just for questioning Rhea's motives. It also pays off the earlier villainous vibes Rhea gave off earlier, as it shows that merely questioning her is enough to earn her wrath. Rest of the route plays out similarly, maybe you throw in a chapter to murk the Agarthans. I wouldn't say this would completely justify Edelgard's actions, but at least the narrative flow would be smoother? Sure beats "Yeah, I'll protect my student because she's hot".

Can't say I fault the effort of Three Houses though. When you're effectively creating four stories, shortcuts will occur. Honestly, they might be better off sticking to a single storyline next time.

Making my way through Blue Lions route. At the moment, my feelings on the cast is that Black Eagles has individual characters I like more while BL works better as a cohesive whole with intertwining stories. This may change as I'm still pre-timeskip.

I don't think it was intentional to have leonie say all that RIGHT at the worst possible moment, but it did make her one of the most hated characters in the community!

Personally I hate her more because in her solo ending she goes back into debt. I was trying to marry the fiscally responsible one!

Playing three houses has really dulled my fire emblem skills. I'm playing new mystery of the emblem again and I keep forgetting you can't just put a strong unit in the middle of enemy range and expect it to tank several different shots from both physical and magic users.

Obviously, what items you get depends on the seed(s) that you use; flower seeds will typically sprout flowers, etc. If you mix different types of seeds, youll get items from one of the seeds only (chosen at random).

Why wouldn't they tell you this?? So it's basically never useful to plant certain seeds
