It's time for another "so how's Sweden doing with their herd mentality" and just look at that line. Let's continue watching how high that line can go.

How's about deaths? Well...
https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-sweden-no-lockdown-asks-people-to-stay-apart-2020-4

"As of Friday morning, the country of 10 million people had 9,141 cases and 793 deaths."

8.7%.
And rising.
They also passed the 100 new deaths a day on Tuesday so let's see how long the 200 line will take. So far they have slowed down the usual but once it ramps up... Well. We'll see. Because they're not locking anything down yet and already accept death in the thousands.

I normally would not go out during these times, however Easter is tomorrow and it's a very important holiday so it is an exception. You have to buy groceries anyway, just keep faith, wash your hands, wash your cloths and it should be fine.

Please don't listen to the troll account. Do not go out tomorrow.

How people can live with themselves by giving advice that if one random person takes could result in the deaths of hundreds of people at minimum I have no idea.

No, people should absolutely not go to to church tomorrow. Being in close quarters with a bunch of people is considerably more dangerous than shopping, and washing your hands doesn't prevent direct spread from someone coughing in your face. And god forbid if people start singing and expelling the full contents of their lungs.

Maybe that is necessary for the long term.

Idk. It will be interesting to see play out.

If they come out of it fine economically, not in poverty and less deaths when everything is taken into consideration, they were clearly right.

Officially furloughed due to COVID. I already wasn't a huge fan of how long this was projected to have strict lockdowns in place so certainly color me less impressed now.

Projected back to work June 1st but that's subject to change. A minimum of 7 weeks of unemployment/goverment assisted pay is going to cost me a fuckton compared to my normal wage. Not sure how they think it's an adequate replacement when it's nowhere close to covering the bills.

Worst part is I work somewhere that isn't even heavily affected. Florida doesn't look anywhere near as bad as other parts of the country. Only 10% of people tested are coming back postive and we have tested the second most in the country. (EDIT: Guess it's third most now as California has done more tests). We are at like 461 deaths which whilst shitty isn't anything close to places like NJ/NY and is fairly low on the deaths/population scale

One of the more odd countries in this right now is Australia. Restrictions have generally varied by state like in the US and they didn't act very proactively in general. Their testing infrastructure has been pretty good but doesn't seem like it would explain the dramatic tapering off of cases.

They were pretty warm when their outbreak first started, but general studies still allege that warm weather doesn't mitigate the spread by very much.

worth noting... for the past week there's been a steady increase of info regarding food. topics ranging from food waste to food shortages.

so just make sure you've still got that supply.
not like it'll all disappear at once but you'll randomly find no more meats of a certain type for extended periods, for example.

A little, yeah, but I don't expect it to be significantly worse. Some of that has to do with most of them not seeing a lot of the sustained low temperatures that you see in the north. And the case for actual seasonality is still relatively weak.

Most equatorial countries are still inconclusive. Indonesia's Java seems to be one of the hardest hit islands, but it's also incredibly densely populated so it's hard to compare it to the spread in Australia's cities.

Agreed, I think reactivation is the most likely answer to this. And there are concerns that it could simply turn dormant like hepatitis B or chicken pox/shingles only to activate much later, but that won't be known for much, much later. Right now it has to be treated as if there's no evidence either way, so of course it will be a "concern." I know that the convalescent plasma infusions for some of the so far "chronic" cases have resulted in rapid clearance so at the very least there seems to be possible treatment for these people.

This has been my experience. I had very mild symptoms for like a week, pretty much a cough and nothing else. Then I felt like I was literally going to die for a few days, then started getting better until it went away completely. Then without ever leaving my apartment or coming in contact with anyone, I started getting the cough and shortness of breath again.

That sucks but is in line with other anecdotal evidence Ive heard. Hope youre fully recovered soon, man.

The hip pain is extremely common in flu recovery, but yeah I dunno if that extends to COVID or not. I havent seen anything but again this is so new and, for example, the just confirmed loss of taste and smell were confirmed symptoms sometime last week. So we could very well see stuff like that added as we get a better understanding of it.

I've seen murmurs float around about a thing known as ADE (antibody-dependent enhancement) which is where, upon reinfection, the antibodies from the initial infection augment the virus' spike protein in a way that entry into cells is facilitated. This makes for a far more severe infection. This was a significant barrier to the creation of both SARS and MERS vaccines during trials on mice and rabbits, but nothing conclusively showed what kind of outcomes humans would have with those since interest and funding evaporated.

I think with how widespread this virus is, and with plenty of recovered doctors and others in China, Iran, Italy, Spain, France, the US, etc. continuing to be exposed, evidence of this effect should be showing itself by now with far more intense infections and worse outcomes but I've seen absolutely nothing so far. It's something to continue looking out for, but I'm very optimistic this will not be the case. ADE being a thing with COVID-19 is a worst-case scenario.

It's also of course one of the reasons why the reinfection/reactivation topic is getting focused on a lot, but those stories haven't often indicated what kinds of symptoms these people are showing. But those that have have never mentioned much worse than mild symptoms.
