I get it, the "deep fandom" can be extremely annoying but the game itself was great. maybe not Game of the Decade but definitely better than fucking Octopath traveler. That game looked so promising I go the ultra super special edition and hated almost every minute of it.

Eh, it's not too surprising to me. I'd rather replay Undertale than OT but I would've been shocked to see Undertale do anything after people still being assmad over 2015 and Draven/sans getting dunked in the last contest.

You're exactly like the people that made Undertale win those times. You just happen to be on the other side of the fence. This is about the games in and of themselves. Not justice. Instead of creating a balancing instance, you just helped create another ridiculous undeserved loss. You are in all the ways that matter just another Undertale Tumblerina.

Undertale was good.

Biggest issue with that match is OT kind of sucks. Like, could at least a decent game have beaten it?

Level of interaction within town is crazy within Octopath traveler.

This game has good replay value due to countless party combination you can pick for a chapter boss.

Octopaths's issue is that it's a jRPG with a barely present overarching story and no worthwhile party interaction since it's just an assortment of individual character stories picked in whatever order you want.

It's a game I would really love to love but GOD is it just so BORING. I don't like the combat very much either.

Looks great, though.

Honestly I dislike basically every single throwback jRPG that's come out in like a decade...I think I'm gonna go cancel my Kickstarter pledge for that Sea of Stars game <_<

I for one just accept that RevengeFAQs is a quirky thing of this site's culture and take it into consideration when picking matches.

Undertale had its moment. It's over now.

The sad thing is that Undertale is a good game. It has lots of fans because a lot of people liked it lol.

Is it as popular as other games that SHOULD have won, probably not but then again every contest on this site is about popularity and it just so happens the last contest with Undertale in it just happened to be around its release when its hype level was over 9000.

Now this site is less relevant than ever as well as Undertale's waning popularity and its showing.

You want to rally a game? Go on. But GameFAQs will never forgive you, and your game or its characters will never win a match in this site again.

It's fine to rally. Just don't let your game/character win the whole thing or interrupt perceived "interesting" matches or else you'll run into mega crybabies. Plenty of unsuccessful rally targets are still loved by users.

i guess everybody either forgot about that game, or it was never really that good and that last big contest was just some kind of a trolljob. like when they voted john scott into the nhl all star game

i dont know, ive never played it and i dont see what all the kuffuffle is. i just remember it winning the tournament the other year and then i notice on this games tournament bracket it already got put out. theres definately some monkey business going on here. pretty sure they were stuffing the ballots for that undertale one the other year.

This is a sport, and some people like it. We are allowed to like it. It's not cool to act like you are superior because you don't share our hobby.

This is why people hate the rallies. We are all geeks here, most of us have a history of being bullied for our geekiness. So we don't enjoy it when people we don't know show up to attack us for the things we like. It wasn't cool in 2013 or 2015, it's still not cool.

You don't like gameFAQs contests? There are a million other things to do in the internet. Let the people who like them enjoy them.

I've only been posting on this board for every contest since 2013, so I don't know what you're going on about in regards to not sharing your hobby or not enjoying contests. I'm just not a cry baby when things turn out differently than what I personally would want or prefer.

There's a much more tame and less offensive way of putting that. That being the case, the kind of people you are referring to do often like Undertale, but they're certainly not the only people that do.

I personally don't like it, but I don't really care about Octopath either. I did vote for Octopath though as I'm slightly less meh about it.

No, I didn't miss that. In fact, seeing that happen is why I don't at all bother to compare Undertale with it since Draven's rallyers were 10x worse than any Undertale fan was.

The act of Draven being rallied was okay even if I didn't like it. The comments and posts like what you're describing were not necessary or good, but I never implied they were in the first place.... Or at least I don't think I did.

Honest advice. i pre-ordered that game and was my most expected game at the time. It's not what it looks like. Graphics are gorgeous yes, but the story(ies) flop hard. Get the Bravely default games, some of the same people worked on it but they scratch the RPG itch much better and have basically the same combat.

Clearly. Anyone who hates it but never played it should give it a try. Its actually rather good. In fact, it winning the contest even if by outside influence made me think, hey maybe I should give it a try.

I heard all this good stuff about Octopath before I had a switch but now I hear these rumblings about it being boring and not having much of a plot and that kind of worries me...I was interested before since I do love me some jrpg tho...

I can only really speak for the people I've talked to about it personally, but in that experience Octopath Traveler is generally like by those not really interested in RPGs anymore, and is very lacking to people who are still actively playing RPGs.

From a story perspective the structure really doesn't allow it to have any meaningful narrative or party interactions.

I had Undertale making the final four because of what happened with that best game ever poll years ago.

Undertale was never that good. It was just a bunch of reddit trolls artifically inflating the vote totals to give Undertale an undeserved win.

I like Undertale a lot, but it is absolutely not in the conversation for "Greatest of All Time", and all the voters who at the time said "nono, we're voting for it because we honestly feel it's the best thing ever" have been exposed now it seems. I think I said this when it lost the GotY poll so badly but people responded by saying "it doesn't matter, it's just a stupid GotY poll". But this was a contest just like the one it won and it lost in R1 to "Octopath Traveller". I mean, yikes, is it anybody's number 1 game of all time now?

Bandwagons are fine - god knows the vast majority of us liked L-Block - but I was told by its fans that Undertale's rally was more than that, legitimate and heartfelt, born of a genuine passion for the game to be "rightly" deemed the "Best Game Ever". But where is that passion now? Is it possible that Undertale is just exactly what it seemed - a right-place, right-time cult hit that doesn't actually, long-term, belong in that upper echelon of games?

Still very worth it.
Do you think without those rallies Draven would have ever won one match without it ?
Would have lost to Chie and would still have been annihilated by Ammy.

Same with Undertale, even if you think it would have won against Octopath without it (which isn't sure), it would never have done anything relevant. (And would have lost to ME3 easily).
