This is a really stupid question, but does anyone know why March is typically skipped in slice of life anime?

Is it? I've seen white day in a few SoL anime and thats march 14th.

Narratively I guess it's not too much of a surprise. They probably spread the first 7-8 episodes evenly throughout the school year and then use the last 4-5 episodes to set up the finally which will take place at the end of the year so the parts of the school year that are like 70-90% are just not shown. They'd probably show april if they wanted spring or earlier if they wanted if winter.

I feel like time basically doesn't exist in most SoL shows outside of holidays and season starts.

I began reading Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou; don't know where it's been all my life, but I love it. It predates and is very similar to Aria, with the Sci fi, scenery porn, and character interactions.

The main character is giving my #1 waifu Mahoro a run for her money as well. But then again they're extremely similar, both being ridiculously humanoid androids with pure hearts and in service jobs. One major difference being that Alpha is practically immortal and Mahoro had a very finite lifespan (and the show would never let you forget it).

I was going to jokingly post my own version and leave it blank, to suggest that there's nothing I'd be willing to do that for, but realistically speaking it's a matter of degrees. I could cave if it was a volume or two (and, tbh, there are manga where I read the first volume free and wound up having to buy the second -- which in one case was a waste of money since the first one ultimately proved to be a standalone and the second didn't really add anything), but some things run for way too long. Plus a lot of manga that only get one season also don't always get localizations for their manga.

That said, there are a handful of manga I could reasonably see myself paying for despite being adverse to it... although I'm terrible at remembering the Japanese names for a lot of them. The case-in-point was going to be something I *thought* translated to "My Dead Friend" (Ryo something or other?), an episodic paranormal mystery series involving a high schooler in communication with the non-speaking spirit of his dead former classmate. I think the site I had been following it on years ago got shut down so I'm not sure how much more of it there is, if anything else at all.

idk, that or I'm just getting the title confused with "Dead Friend," a K-horror I watched years ago.

I'd love to pay for some manga or webtoon fast pass to support creators if I had money to spare. I don't really like the idea of anime just being an advertisement for source though so I'd really prefer not to buy anything that's intentionally had an incomplete anime like konosuba (light novel but still).

Dragon maid is a bit different because they were gonna make more before the arson attack killed a lot of the staff. That I wouldn't feel bad about buying.

Yeah, and I was kinda hoping people would know the one I'm talking about because otherwise I have to dig around my old laptops.

One of the later stories I read involved the protagonist visiting his female cousin's family (or the cousin visiting his?) and the two becoming enamored by an abandoned, falling apart amusement park... that when they revisit it looks restored as if it were new, with the rides running and everything. (end spoilers) When the two are about to go on the ferris wheel, the ghost classmate warns the protagonist not to do it and he tries to stop his cousin. Eventually the cousin goes on the ride -- can't remember if we see it or she sneaks back -- and her body is later found near where the long-broken ferris wheel is and looks like it fell from a great height.

Next anime to watch is I Can't Understand What My Husband is Saying because I can expect great things from anything written by Coolkyousinnjya.
Edit: nvm they're shorts. Shorts are lame.

I guess I'll start watching Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater because fishing is cool.

Anyway, the Anime I watched this week was Tamako Market. Tamako was just adorable.
I guess I will watch another Kyoto Ani anime next week, Chunibyo.

And the rise of the anti-anime / manga movement started circa '06. It will never be 100% "normal" as long as there is a contingent willing to scream "WEEB!" at everything Japanese.

I think for the most part it was otaku back in the early 2000s as the insult. Then people used it ironically in a self depreciating way to describe themselves, less socially aware fans didn't see the irony and took to just normally describing themselves as such, and then it stopped being an insult so a new insult popped up (well, newly popular) with weaboo and then the same thing happened and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens a 3rd time. The anime community is too socially unaware to stay insulted by any term which is kind of amazing.

Actual negative sentiment towards the anime community is really dying down the last few years though at least in my eyes. It's like 10 years behind gaming in acceptance I feel like. I mean, you still see people insulting anime, but you have to realize, the actual fanbase is like 5-10x what it was 10 years ago, and the insults are probably less than they have ever been despite anime being much more visible now. I think it's already passed the point of most resistance and it'll just be more and more normal over time.

I know it's not really jrpg-related but I finally managed 100% complete Super Mario Odyssey!

Which means all 880 moons gotten, all purple coins, and all special hats and costumes.

Even managed to buy an extra 20 moons to round them all up to 900.

Now I can finally move on to a jrpg that's in my backlog.

Though I'm having a hard time deciding between Fairy Fencer F or Octopath Traveler.

Finally found the name of that manga I was talking about. It's Shibito no Koe o Kiku ga Yoi.

After a lot of searching, I found a page I had saved on an older laptop which had a character's name in one of the panels so I just keep googling variations until I found it. It was from the one alien kappa mystery where they fanserviced (or rather teased) some tentacle stuff (which, in the context of the series, felt a little out of the place -- the tentacle fanservice, not the alien kappa)

The art isn't quite as great as I thought -- although it's still pretty good -- but, on the plus side, it looks like there's a lot of new stuff available for it.

Read all of UnOrdinary (which is a webtoon) in 2 days. Gave me a massive headache because of my condition but I couldn't put it down.

It's pretty good although the main character is probably the least likeable out of the entire main cast. A few predictions.

Remi is a bit too good and effective. She plays basically the same roll as euphemia did in code geass so I kind of suspect things either won't go her way or she will die. I have a bit of a hunch that the 2 research companies listed are behind ember and the kidnappers. NXGen works with the government, probably to capture or kill uncontrollable high tiers. Ember popped up around the same time as the smaller research company started up. Super heroes but in on their turf so wiping them out makes sense, I mean remi ran into their handiwork literally right off the bat as soon as she started being one.

I also suspect johns dad is probably related to the ability boosting/dampening effects. The authorities just let him off for writing the book that causes them so much trouble? I don't think so. He probably has the power to make anyone into a cripple. Additionally, abilities are somewhat hereditary so his ability should also be related to aura manipulation.and he too should be a high tier. Perhaps in exchange for working for NXGen they let him off the hook. On the other hand, the new research company that leilah works for must be the ones that stole the secret NXGen tech they mentioned in that one news report like 100 chapters ago and used it to create and sell the ability boosters.

Honestly I just relate so much to the depression and hopeless the "cripples" feel in that show. It's like a perfect mirror of how I feel. Now that I'm done though I just feel extra depressed. I feel so pathetic that literally reading a story wrecks my body so hard. It was so good though, I just wish there was more to read.

Apparently when I stopped reading Shibito (again, I'm terrible with these Japanese-only names), there hadn't been that much scanlated or whatever so I'm trying to decide whether to re-read from the beginning or pick up where I thought I left off.

Granted, I might be further than I thought. I learned that the Ferris Wheel story was only chapter 3 and the last chapter I'm 100% sure I read is Chapter 8, so I assumed I was only up to chapter 9.... but looking forward and I think I recognize Night of the Slayer (which was a slasher one where the group was lured out and I think the whole family were killers). Right now I'm just re-reading chapter 8 (the tsuchinoko one) because chapter 9 starts with Kishida having a broken leg and I'm not sure if it was related to chapter 8 when they're attacked by those ape things only to be saved by the tsuchinoko which wind up eating them

The most recent chapter is 78 and it's from January 2020, so it's not like a super huge amount of content anyway.

Oh, and apparently the Ryo- I was remembering is because the ghost's name is Hayakawa Ryoko (and the first chapter is "The Disappearance of Hayakawa Ryoko")

Also I realize I say "apparently" a lot. Caught myself about to do it a few times and reworded things.

All I have left in Vesperia is to grind grade and then post game stuff. So maybe 30 hours max. Definitive edition makes it easier to get some of the achievements since you can inherit Fell Arm powers.

Man, my Wii is easily my least played console. I don't think I beat a single game I have for it. Did have 80+ hours on my Xenoblade file and play Monster Hunter Tri for a good bit as well.

Goddamn, that horror manga's name is hard to remember. Wanted to read some chapters on my chromebook while I was camping a few Pokestops and kept drawing blanks. Thankfully I remember the girl's name.

I re-read the first three chapters and realized I'd forgotten a few details, like the fact that Kishida (or whatever) was friends with Ryoko when they were very young (which is used for the lead-in to "Ferris Wheel of Death") and that apparently he had seen other ghosts before her. And apparently that first chapter's art was a lot better than some of the stuff I glanced at in a later chapter, so that's probably where my expectations were distorted.

It was also useful for refreshing my memory concerning a few supporting characters. (And actually, the thing in chapter 8 iirc had a callback to an earlier chapter -- which I *think* I remember what happened -- which was another reason why I figured just re-reading everything made sense.)

By the way, a while back I was watching a video discussing either the work of Junji Ito or Lovecraft (or somebody who compared both) and one of the vlogger's observations was that the protagonists in these stories basically serve as witnesses rather than active players. I think that might be one of things I like about Shibito, since Kishida seems to discover the cause of spooky happenings but usually he doesn't really stop it himself (except maybe by escaping and telling others)

Watched the first episode of uzaki-chan. It's ok but not great. Honestly not even good. I did laugh a few times. Hopefully it gets better as the characters have more time to develop. Also damn how does her spine handle those massive boobs.

Also bought ghost of tsushima and persona 5 royal. No idea if I'll be able to handle playing either one but I have to at least try to keep myself occupied.

I'm really waiting around till august 20th. Got my meeting with a neurosurgeon that may lead to spinal surgery and rpg maker mz comes out so I can resume working on my game.

"Hieda had a funeral to go to" is one of my new favorite running gags. It's used as a recurring explanation for why a supporting member of the Occult Club isn't appearing in a story. The first two times it's mentioned, it sounded legit but I think I've heard it referenced in 10 stories now so it's just a joke at this point.

Most Shibito stories in general have a pretty small cast.

Also, c46 ("Chocolinne: The Irresistible Treat") feels a lot like Junji Ito's "Ice Cream Bus".

Unfortunately I'll probably run through the series either tonight or tomorrow =x
