Man, the parts with the new characters added in royal really feel like they are written by someone else, someone better than the initial writer. I think thats what made my earlier opinion the way it was. The contrast between kasumi and maruki's thoughts and conversations is stark between everything else. Maybe it's because they expect most of the people playing royal have already played persona 5 (which i haven't) so they assume their audience is more familiar with the story and it's concepts. I couldn't help but wish I could interject in the early july conversation between kasumi, akechi, and joker.

Then you have maruki coming in even further from the other side so joker's opinion is right between them. It's perfect really. I especially like how Maruki's approach FEELS wrong but at least thus far, theres no logical problems with it and you'd potentially save lives. However, just being able to take a pill to ease heartache goes against our understanding of personal responsibility, but kasumi highlights that what the phantom thieves do also goes against the exact same understanding of personal responsibility, but the cases you actually deal with are so extreme it FEELS right to step in so you just hit some big cognitive dissonance at that point.

Of course the actual difference is that the phantom thieves don't care what happens to their targets, stealing their hearts isn't a way to help them, it's a way to help people hurt by the target. You even go so far as to risk the target outright dying which effectively makes it vigilante justice that is justified by the police being shown to be incompetent. Still, the whole thing is fascinating and the way they constructed this 3 way ideological standoff is very impressive so far.

Still, theres plenty of game left for them to ruin all this and JRPGs should be famous for how often they set up a thought provoking moral conflict only to completely pussy out and subvert it by making one side into comic book villains. Hopefully that doesn't happen here.

Kinda starting to try to follow up on the manga I had been reading prior to Mangafox going legit-ish. In the case of Witchcraft Works, when I reached the end of the scanlation in September, they were still on the Alcina arc. All this time later, apparently only *two* new chapters have been uploaded (supposedly within the same day) and it looks like we're nowhere near close to finishing this arc. Oh, and the translation is still absolute shit. I assume it has to be a literal word-by-word translation from a dictionary because man is it bad. It's annoying because, like many scanlations, the early going was translated reasonably well. Now it's occasionally unreadable.

At any rate, I still gotta read the end of that one Ouendon series or whatever about the kid who travels back in time and joins a cheer club.

I keep forgetting to catch up with One Piece. It's a lot more enjoyable when I wait for a whole arc to air and then watch through it, rather than watching weekly.

I tried watching One Piece starting with the Skypiea Arc and was loving it at first but the pacing really started to drive me nuts, so I started alternating between the manga and the anime but when I noticed even canon arcs had filler (long ring island had double the amount of matches), thats when I mostly dropped the anime.

It's tough because the arc is all kinds of awful yet Eneru is one of the best things in OP. They go most of the arc before Luffy finally confronts him and then instant hilarity ensues.

No reason for me not to binge Zero and Ao before Cold Steel 4 comes out early next year.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is only 40-50 hours and is the first entry into the series, but most people find it hard to get into because it's a prologue for the second game in the series. Definitely wouldn't recommend it if you don't like story heavy games.

I don't know many short JRPGs, Shortest "good" JRPG is probably Chrono Trigger and it's one of the best games of all time (but who hasn't heard of it") Game's only 20-30 hours long.

Last JRPG I played was Bravely Default. Was fun. Do recommend. Though, the difficulty of the game swung a lot by design. (not real spoilers, but spoiler tagged if you enjoy exploring game mechanics on your own). You access game/balance breaking stuff (not quite broken, but breaks the game's tempo of increasing difficulty), you cruise on it for a little, and the game throws some hard shit at you.

Well, it was more like at a few points in the game, you find ways to deal way more damage than usual, so trash mobs become super easy, and you don't have to worry about defense/survival, but then either 1: you'll find a trash mob that you can't dunk, and it dunks you because you don't have any survival/defense, and you learn how to not get dunked and it's easy again. OR 2: you'll encounter a boss that makes surviving really hard, and you have to rework everything to survive and balance offense.

I try not to miss things. It sucks having to replay games many times over. I somehow missed one monster in Vesperia but I needed to do a second run for achievements anyway.

That defeats the purpose for me. I play games to enjoy myself not to be caught up with hunting achievements. And I don't remember the last time I played a game more than once tbh. Too many things to do these days to be caught up in just one thing (well unless that game is a persistent online game, and there are very few good ones now).

It's easy. I just need the 10x experience in grade shop for the max level one. I can also do the speed run achievement at the same time due to fell arm powers being able to carry over.

If I like a game enough to complete it once and there are achievements, etc, I missed, I'll likely play it again. While time has generally been an issue, it also comes down to motivation for me. I have an easier time continuing (including restarting) a game than starting a new one, given the investment of time getting into the game (learning the mechanics, getting used to the gameplay, becoming engaged in the story, etc)

Unless I really like a game -- or there's a specific benefit in-game -- I tend to avoid pigeon hunts, though. Infamous 1's and SR4's pigeon hunts both were tied to unlocking/upgrading powers iirc which made them more tolerable.

But yeah, having to look for shit while playing (meaning checking a guide) kills the experience... especially when shit is hard to find. The unlockables in XMO:Wolverine pissed the fuck out of me, especially because they unlocked alt costumes (and specifically comic costumes) which I'd rather use.

I mostly only use guides for items. I also used one for Witcher 3 for the beginning since I started it on death march. I just needed to see what skills I needed for the beginning of it.

For me I just can't win. A game is for sure so much less fun to play with a guide, but missing anything also really really makes me feel bad so I just can't win for games with missables. I've grown to despise missables.

Getting near the end of P5R and I'm thinking I might just barely not have enough time to max all confidants and that has completely removed my motivation to play. I knew I'd hate the limited time aspect of the game and god damn do I hate it. Just let me do everything in one playthrough without needing a guide you bastards. Would it have killed them to just give me 2-3 more months of free time so theres no stress over it?

On the anime side of things I really want to watch a good mature anime that is clever and has a compelling plot but there aren't any that I haven't already seen. I think I know of literally every anime from the past 25 years. Whenever I look up recommendation it's all just stuff I already know about or shit shows that have like a 5/10 rating which I'm slowly also becoming familiar with.

Maybe I'll just catch up with the current seasonal garbage. I haven't quite committed to dropping god of highschool but I'm really close. I guess I could catch up on that shamelss power fantasy demon king one. Ugh, none of it sounds even remotely appealing right now. Still gotta kill 4 days until the new rpg maker comes out.

Oh yeah, I haven't mentioned my health in a while. Next month on the 17th I'm somehow gonna get to colorado and get a PICL procedure where they inject stem cells into the ligaments and muscles and joints of my cervical spine. From getting a digital motion x-ray I've found out I have massive instability in my neck that is crushing my spinal chord and brainstem. Hopefully that accounts for all my symptoms. Theres also a good chance it's caused my brain to start leaking CSF out of my left ear and nose, otherwise I'm not sure what that fluid is.

Because I have problems with anything being put into my bloodstream (either through eating or IV) I'm worried the anesthesia will kill me and also I won't be able to take pain medicine for the recovery so that sucks cause I'll likely be in a lot of pain. If it doesn't kill me though, the procedure has about a 95% success rate (and has never had any major complications) so I might FINALLY get my fucking life back after like 16 months of this hell. I wouldn't wish this shit on hitler. No one should have to go through this. If it turns out my symptoms are caused by something else, I don't know mentally how I'll go on.

The one thing I hate about manga is that you sometimes have what amount to empty chapters. There's so little going on that it doesn't even feel like filler.

Frigging Again!! was killing me with a few of those before jumping into another "what's going on?!" moment. You sometimes almost forget the supernatural angle, only for it to be shoved into your face in shocking fashion with a series of chapters each with a major cliffhanger.

Finished Again!! and I'm confused as fuck. What a weird ending.

I had read up to where the scanlation ended last year (when they're preparing to cheer at a marathon) and picked it up from there, re-reading the last chapter I had read (or maybe the one before it?).

Things had kinda been progressing up until Imauru randomly falls and wakes up in a distant future -- past his original timeline -- where he died in the fall... and then after centuries of being dead, he somehow triggers an Again (possibly via an accidental fall off a cliff?). Then the shit ends with him returning to his previous Again where things left off, deciding to kiss a bunch of women to wreck the future he saw, and then becoming a passive guy again... before deciding to Again again and jumping down the stairs, hitting the captain. Then it flashforwards to the beginning of the series, but this time Fujieda falls and hits the captain. And the captain runs from Imaura because... reasons? She says some weird shit. I'm not sure if she flash-forwarded when she got hit by Imaura in the past but, then again, she was weird the last time he appeared in the present.

Is it too much to ask for manga to just give a satisfying, concrete ending?

Maybe I should watch more uzaki chan. The first episode didn't really sell me but it wasn't unwatchable either.

There is a growing case of sliding standards in the Social Justice regions of fandom. There are now people who literally believe that anybody under 25 -- when the brain is supposedly done developing -- is "underage". I've seen it over in Fire Emblem fandom (e.g. people calling Sylvain underage in Three Houses when he is canonically 20 before the timeskip).

To say that things are getting out of control is a bit of an understatement.
