So WWE finally did something intentional or not to get me excited about their product.

Kayfabe or not, they did an angle where Kofi is going to be out six weeks. And Big E tried to be humble but Kofi kept building him up for his singles run.

If Big E is finally gonna get a singles run the next few weeks I might actually have to pay attention to Smackdown.

So there's a theory.

On one of the last Backstage episodes with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, Bryan said he'd love to work with Big E and Gran Metalik.

This week, it was revealed that both Edge and Daniel Bryan had joined the creative teams for both RAW and Smackdown.

Suddenly on Smackdown they're pushing a Big E singles run and Gran Metalik wins a fatal four way to become #1 contender to the IC title.

How is Cheeseburger's question a dickish question? Wrestling is something that even when you know the basics, there's a lot more to learn with psychology, fan reactions, etc. and there's usually some vet who knows more about that and considered things they never thought of.

TJP thinks he has never wrestled anyone who knew more than him about psychology since day 1.

Been watching AEW the last two weeks and this just seems like a lot better product than when I last watched WWE. Maybe because it's fresher to me so that gives it a little bit of a bump rather than WWE seeming stale to me. The matches just seem a lot better though, not just in quality but in the variety of stuff that gets done.

I mean there are faults with it too. Like I'm just past the Bucks/Butcher + Blade match which whiilst enjoyable, why the fuck does nobody bother actually trying to get a pin until the end? I think there was one attempt at the start of the match and then the next attempt was the end despite plenty of offense looking like it warranted a pin attempt. Also that end spot just seemed bad to me.

Also holy fuck that Cody neck tattoo is atrocious. I'd seen it before I think but I forgot just how bad it was.

AEW is just doing so much right that you don't really sweat the small stuff.

Yeah, I assume it's more on the Young Bucks rather than AEW. I haven't seen much of them before but I had heard they were 'spot monkeys'. Not sure how accurate that is but I can see pin attempts being something they overlook if that's the case.

There's just simple stuff that makes it seem better too. Like when Darby Allin got beat down and they go to pick him up, he was limp like a ragdoll. That's so simple and yet WWE never does that. Or simple ring psychology like Moxley utilizing the armbar last week or Cody with the figure four this week. That's so much better than WWE's finishes which seem to basically be moves of doom or roll-ups.

I have no idea where people are positioned on the card but matches actually being even and not being squashes helps too. You don't need 50/50 booking to get people over. Just being competitive in losses can help but again WWE doesn't do that. It's either 50/50 booking or squashes or if upsets happen it's via rollups.

My previous issue with the Bucks awhile ago was that they wrestled like they were literally playing a video game. They immediately just went for big moves and only ever seemed to pin at the very end.

I also assumed this changed over time, though, but I haven't watched enough to know for sure.

Well the one that sticks out for me is when one of the Bucks is out of commission. The Butcher and Blade hit a powerbomb / neckbreaker on the other one outside the ring. They then make no attempt to cover when that should finish the match. Bucks then immediately recover and win.

Still haven't watched a legit wrestling show all the way through since COVID hit. NWA still shelved, but they are trying to get back into things. I keep up with WWE's cinematic matches (or at least usually do). I haven't tried watching AEW since the Dark Order fiasco last year (even though Brodie Lee took over). I know some great talent is there, but the more I hear about what AEW is doing, I keep thinking it isn't what I want. NWA was though, which kinda makes me hopeful it gets back running regularly. Non-audience shows and cinematic matches just...don't feel right.

NXT seems like the best middle ground, but working 30-35 hours a week recently makes doing ANYTHING kinda hard.
