At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it's not impossible there was any other motive.

He chose the name himself, and considering he also has the "Spirit Bomb," it's blatantly obvious what the main motivation was.

That's really where it ends. Trying to take it any further, especially to the point of trying to tell a black man he needs to study the history of African Americans, is insane.

That said, actually looking at Bruce Mitchell's twitter, this isn't the first time he tried to make a big deal out of it, it just got ignored previously, and he made several tweets trying to stir shit up about it over 2-3 days this time to get it started. He also hasn't dropped it since.

You're getting super defensive over this guy rightfully getting called out for trying to start shit, and continuing to try to start shit even when corrected.

He tried for multiple days in a row to start shit over the name. People told him "Dude, it's from Dragon Ball Z. He also uses the Spirit Bomb, which is also from Dragon Ball Z."

He insults people and tells them they're making excuses, and that there's a reason WWE gave him the name. People show proof Keith Lee picked the name himself.

He proceeds to continue to insult people and tell them they're making excuses, anyway, while telling Keith Lee he needs to study African American history.

Like, come on, man. There is zero reason to defend this. Let people call it out for the dick move it is and everybody moves on in a few days.

It's a reference to Big Bang Attack. It originally WAS Big Bang Attack but then he changed it to Catastrophe.

I appreciate that, but in this case there are any number of anime names that would accomplish the same thing WITHOUT also sticking Lee with that BBC crap, and WWE sticking him with it iwasnt by accident.

His argument shifted once people posted proof that Keith chose it himself.

So, yes, if his argument all along was just "Eh, this probably isn't a great name," then I'd agree.

But it wasn't. He was (and still is) trying to paint it as "This black man was saddled with this OBVIOUSLY racist name on purpose," while simultaneously also saying "Keith Lee needs to study African American history."

That's what makes this completely bonkers.

That's fair, then. At this point as our conversation continues, it's becoming clear we were coming at it in two different lights which caused a disconnect.

My entire issue is how he's purposely framing it in an incorrect light, and even doubled down on it despite being proved wrong, and to me that seemed like he was just doing it for attention.

If he's normally not the type to do that, then I'll accept that. It just looked super odd in this case since he was proved wrong on it, even replied to the tweet in question, and still doubled down on the original narrative anyway.

yeah - doubling down is his usual behaviour. he's not even one of my favourites or anything, he's just someone who i've been listening to for ten years and know all of this stuff to be totally consistent, for better or for worse, with his usual MO. more than anything else, he said a lot of eye opening things on audio over the years about wwe's constant treatment of black wrestlers as a minstrel show, that i would never have been aware of myself, and so i never want to be quick to dismiss his points on race as i've learned a decent amount from them.

but he is attacking the wrong thing here and it's frustrating all around
