And the Democratic party seems more than willing to sleepwalk (pun intended) into a massacre that is going to lead to enough elected Republicans to change laws and take enough control of the levers of power to legally January 6th their way into perpetual power.

We are probably completely fucked beyond all belief, and at this point anyone who still insists its on the electoraterather than the people currently in officeis no better than the GOP psychos to me.

Ok lol, if it helps you cope with our imminent apocalypse to blame people with literally zero individual power to do anything about it, Ill let you believe that.

And I know thats condescending as hell, but there are about 100 things Joe Biden could do today that would help people and give them a reason to believe Democrats actually WANT to do anything, but instead hell talk about how McConnell is a good guy and how we need a strong Republican Party.

Yeah if only those people had some agency to change that. If people are ignorant at this point, theyre willfully ignorant. Weve had plenty of chances to nominate good progressive candidates and they always get their asses handed to them.

This is what people want. Let them have it. Wash your hands and believe in the inherent goodness of the American people if you want.

I mean, to be fair, that's on the electorate too. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, the overwhelming majority of the Democratic base at large is made up of moderates who only stick with the Dems because the Republicans are psychotic in their culture wars. They don't completely agree with Democratic policy and are frightened of moving too far left because insert bullshit self-centered reason here. That's who elected Biden: the same moderates who reelected Susan Collins in Maine despite overwhelmingly picking Biden over Trump for the presidency. They fucking suck, but they're the majority, and they're who the Democrats desperately pander to because they know that if they don't, that's a net negative of one vote from people apathetic and buying into the "both sides are the same", or a net negative of TWO votes from people who say "Well fuck this culture war stuff, at least the GOP doesn't want to raise my taxes to help some group I'm not a part of".

Worth noting: Biden's lead over Trump in the popular vote was smaller than his lead in just California and New York. That's pretty good evidence that in most of the country people really don't want what Democrats are pushing.

Sure, but Republicans want whats coming and Republicans deliver the goods so they dont regret it.

Let me put it another way: Regardless of their motive, Republicans give their base anything possible and dont spend a single solitary second contemplating backlash or if Democrats want it too.

The elected GOP worker harder than Democrats for their base, if youre asking Democratic voters to work harder for less result, thats fine, but Im telling you that it cant possibly work forever and were all fucked because of it.

For the record, I don't agree with this. Trump had a supermajority and no self-restraint and got shockingly little done outside of Supreme Court justices. The GOP drags their feet just as much if not more than the Democrats - they're just better at pretending.

You misunderstand me - politicians are absolute trash as well. But the voters are still mostly to blame. If they held politicians to standards, then Biden might actually feel pressured to sign a bunch of executive orders. From his perspective, it probably doesn't matter if he does or not, because half the country is being held hostage by Nazis who make it impossible for Democratic voters to vote for any Republican in good conscience.

When Dems lose they blame the voters, when Repubs lose they blame the candidate (or the Dems).

Coincidentally, heres a text I sent to my group chat today:

But at the end of the day, all these psychos are just loud bags of meat and gasits the people they elect who take away medical care for my trans friends. Its the people they elect who decide you cant say gay in schools.

As a matter of fact, its GOP politicians who lead their base, while the same cant be said of Dems.

Trumpism infected the GOP because he got up there and said shit they turned out to like. With very few exceptions, the politicians stand on the pulpit and say crazy shit to rile up their base, not the other way around.

No Im not implying that, actually. I dont know why you work so hard at missing the point, dude.

Do you think the GOP wants to make being gay or trans illegal: yes or no?

Do you think its possible they succeed: yes or no?

If you answer yes to either of those, do you think its better for the group who has guns and 100% wont give them up to be the only people who have them?

Just wondering, call it bait or whatever, but were talking about a half dozen different mini-apocalypses in a country where removing guns is impossible.

November is going to be interesting. The economics of the country make it look bad for Democrats, but I don't think any of the swing voters are going to change their minds because of it with how publicized all of the Roe vs Wade and gun violence is.

I think its going to come to enthusiasm, and that's going to be determined by the length of time since the latest huge GOP blow up imo
