Yeah, Subway's prices are what keeps customers coming back. Not the quality of their food.

This for me. A $5-7 foot long can be almost both lunch and dinner if I'm not that hungry. In terms of quality, I do feel most other sandwich shops are better but at higher price. In terms of most bang for the buck, I feel Vietnamese Banh Mi are the best. At Lee's Sandwiches you can get a good size one that's taste good for maybe $2-3.

I've been playing Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and Path of Exile. I played FFBE for maybe a year thus far and have spent about $28 on in-game money. With the amount of fun I've had thus far, I think it was worth it. For PoE, I've played on-n-off for a few years now before finally dropping $30 on it for some quality-of-life features. Definitely another game that provided plenty of fun.

Seeing an app listed as free is usually the kiss of death for me. They're either going to spam you with ads, give the game such a massive difficulty curve that you can't win without buying something, or they make it where to have to grind for weeks or months to get stuff without paying. I'd rather pay up front and get the whole game than be nickeled and dimed.

It's hit-or-miss in my opinion. FFBE relies on the gacha system but realistically I feel one can get by well enough without ever spending any money on that game.

The gacha system is bound to screw you over regardless of whether you're F2P or paid for in-game money. I've read enough story of "whales" dropping hundreds for a specific unit and not getting it only for a F2P player getting said units from a free pull. The RNG Goddess won't care how much you spent.

Despite the long upgrading periods, I feel Clash of Clan is another where if you're good enough, you can progress pretty well and the game gives you enough in-game money as well from just playing.

Unless one feels they need the very best units or be top of the ranking ladder, I feel spending money on some of these games just isn't necessary.

Kinda missed playing the tabletop game. Last time my friends and I played mighta been toward the end of the 5th or start of the 6th edition. Think the largest I had was maybe a 1,500 - 2,000 point Tyranid army.

That being said, can't say I was content with the cost of the models and the amount of effort to assemble and paint them. Part of me kinda regretted choosing a hoard-like army like the Tyranid instead of something smaller like Space Marines or Tau. Assembling a 10-man unit of Space Marine mighta been much more tolerable compared to assembling a 30-man unit of Hormagaunts.

Granted at least the models are kinda future proofed. I'm glad at least the older metallic models aren't used anymore. I was always concern my Zoanthrope would topple over and crack.

How is the current state of the game?

....claiming yourself and family and hoping to owe nothing during tax season? I've heard plenty of time folks suggesting one shouldn't allow themselves to be over taxed and lend interest free money to the government by claiming nothing.

Depending on how responsible and discipline one is, for some folks I can see having that buffer of being over taxed and getting a refund later useful in ensuring they at least won't owe anything later. Some folks, like some of my friends, probably see that refund as "free" money and something to treat themselves with. I tend to use that refund for Christmas bills, hah!

Personally I only get on average $1,000 to $1,200 in refund each year and already regularly put in money into my mutual fund and Roth IRA accounts. Depending on the changes to the rate of interest, that $1,000 to $1,200 may or may not yield much. I recall some PotDers get several thousands in refund each year from various claims and deductions.

What is your usual stance and approach when it comes to the withholding on your paychecks?

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

Fair point. When I think of it, Strange coulda let Stark die and possibly keep the Time Stone hidden. One life compared to trillions. Gamora chose Nebura as well over half the universe, etc. etc. Star-Lord mishap was the easiest to notice I'd admit and only seemed the worse since they, at the time, seemed so close to winning. On another note, if Thor didn't miss his head or didn't felt the need to gloat, that was another opportunity to win.

On another note, I wonder if among all the possibilities that Strange saw of them still losing, if one involved him reversing time to and changing their approach with Thanos.

Lol you're so poor that it's worth the effort to save you 5 to 10 bucks every 3 months.

I don't think it's always about saving money though. Some folks simply baby their cars and feel it is better to do something yourself, assuming you have the tools and experience. My dad didn't like taking in our car to the shop because he feels they don't let the used oil drain completely before screwing the drain plug back on and putting in new oil.

CacciatoPart3 posted...
After a certain point Id rather just pay someone to do it.

If said shop is reputable. Forgot where my friend took his dad's van to but the mechanic didn't align the drain plug correctly and stripped it and the oil pan when tightening the bolt. What shoulda been a $20-40ish oil change turned into $400+ because they had to change the oil pan too.

I would take my car in for an oil change if I want to combine both an oil change and general inspection at the same time. Though once I had to take it in because the previous mechanic over-tighten the drain plug and I simply could not loosen it when I was changing the oil myself.

When I was going to a Subaru dealership for some free oil changes, they just told me to park in the express lane for simple stuff like oil changes. The wait time simply varied by our busy they are at the time.

As simple as an oil change is, I feel too fast is not always a good thing. As others have mentioned already, I've heard of cases of mechanics forgetting to put in new oil. My mentor lost all the oil in his pan and didn't find out until the engine started smoking because the the drain plug came loose. By luck this didn't happen during a 100+ miles drive home from a camping trip.

Fortunately I assume this have never happened to you despite their speedy service but overall I just feel when rushed to get such jobs done, mistakes are more likely to occur.

Just by comparison to the other clocks in the house. It was gaining maybe a minute ahead every hour. For a digital clock and a new one appliance that costed $80, it started on the bad foot so to speak and already left a bad impression with them.

Interesting enough, they might be issues with the brand/model. I couldn't return it to Amazon via their automated refund system and had to chat with an associate to process the refund. The associate said there might be issues with that product as Amazon actually took it off listing and even told me we can keep the toaster oven despite giving me the refund.

Typically, some DLCs that adds to the story give us a more enriching experience and sense of closure maybe. Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC I thought was amazing and made the bittersweet ending more tolerable. But then some DLCs kinda ruin the story for me to the point that I wish I hadn't played the DLC.

I finally finished Bioshock Infinite and both Burial at Sea DLCs last week. Overall I was content with the ending to Bioshock Infinite but the Burial at Sea endings left a bad taste in my mouth. Instead of a sense of closure it felt more like the developers were adding salt to an existing wound or reopening it. Despite the connection to Bioshock, it still felt like all of our actions were all for naught.

Have there been DLCs that kinda ruined the story for you?

Comments and opinions are appreciated,

Fortunately nothing this year but last year's white elephant gift exchange was kinda bad. The whole thing is suppose to be all for fun and we're exchanging gifts that are only $10-15 so it isn't that bad of a loss if someone put in a good gift but received a crappy one in-turn. Still, it's just simple courtesy to at least put in something useful.

Last year we had folks putting in ladle holder, shower hand bars, auto stores sports bags, football team aprons, etc. Stuff that you know people paid less than $10 for and/or got it for cheap/free because they work in said store.

I hate to say this but I'm actually glad our family Christmas party was hosted in San Diego this year since one of the families that typically put in crappy gifts probably didn't attended because it was too far of a drive for them.

That being said, would it be fair to suggest that if some folks are into violent video games but in real life would never succumb to carrying out the real thing, that the same might apply to folks interested in fictional children but would never carry out the real thing? In my work experience only the lazy annoying people get "bullied", but that's just my workplace.

Kinda the same for my workplace. The coworker who's on the receiving end of our conversations isn't lazy per se but his habits and overall behavior is simply annoying at times. He frequently makes up excuses that certain errors with his projects is due to our in-house program and not him. I use the same program as him and though said program can act funny at times, we are able to check the finalized PDF printout before turning in said project. If said errors are popping up, he's probably not checking the finalized printout.

He also frequently place blame with our clients when they enter information incorrectly. Some clients are difficult to work with and they frequently make changes to their projects but some clients are simply clueless about the standards for some of the stuff we do and it is up to us to correct that and ensure said client uses what is standard. Instead he just goes with whatever the clients entered and if we later find out said information is incorrect and need to change it, he place the blame on the clients.

We all occasionally have casual non-work related conversations when working but we keep it to just coworkers in the immediate vicinity and we try and keep it short. He will walk several cubicles over to have a conversations for 20+ minutes and after he's done, he'll sometime walk over to another cubicle and repeat that conversation. After all this, he'll later make up excuses that he's getting interrupted with phone calls and changes from clients about why some of his projects are delayed.

At this point I'm just ranting but like I said, he's not entirely lazy and he is good with the work our company do. But many of times we gotta deal with him acting like a man-child, placing blame on the in-house program or our clients instead of manning up and accepting he made the mistake, expecting clients to catch his mistakes and using the excuse that our clients approved a project when it comes back later to be fixed, etc. etc.

Though not exactly related, I was volunteering at a fundraiser once helping serve food and with the cleanup. Never ceases to surprise me how lazy or blind some people seem to be. A trash can could be filled to the brim and/or over flowing and yet there's another one just a few feet further that has space that people can't be bothered to walk to.

At the moment, nothing. Last book I read was The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. Good read and is changing how I view the various items I've hoarded for sentimental reasons.

Its about protecting them more so than protecting myself.

I really should consult my doctor for this reason alone. I've been fortunate and have never came down with the flu in ages but for all I know I might still carry it despite not showing the symptoms.

I'm probably the polar opposite of picky. The food would probably have to be spoiled, burnt, overly seasoned, etc. for me to complain. Back in college, I finished an eggplant dish that had way too much salt in it. So much salt that it was supersaturated and I felt all the grains. I shoulda stopped eating it but I simply hate wasting food.

I recall once telling someone that my family, relatives, and I get together for Thanksgiving or Chistmas a week before or after the actual date and they were baffled by it. Our reason is simple, doing it early/late was simply more convenient for most of our schedules, traveling is easier, and frankly getting together is the important part, what does it matter if we do it on the official date or not.

Being single, it is easy for me to adjust to most other people's schedule. But I know with my cousins who are married, they sometimes try and bounce between visiting both the husband side of the family and the wife side of the family if both are within easy traveling distance of each other. So I can see why for them meeting together early/late can be better for them.

That being said, do you and your family celebrate the major holidays on the actual date since most people are off those days or do you celebrate on whatever day/date is convenient for everyone's schedule?

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

These "I'm a grown adult so I don't get presents" comments are really sad. You don't have any family or a girlfriend or anyone that would get you a present?

I don't think there's anything sad about that. To some, Christmas, birthdays, or anniversaries are almost a "forced" obligation to do something nice or gift someone with something. Personally someone saying "I saw this on sale and thought you'll find it useful" at some random time in the year means more to me than someone making a purchase just for a birthday or Christmas. At least with the former they did it outside of such obligation plus they managed to get it on sale which is always a good thing.

I could use a keyboard.
But that's mostly because I'm too lazy to buy a new one.

I've been wanting to replace my Logitech G110 keyboard with their K800 wireless keyboard for the longest time. But I'm hard-pressed to allow myself to spend $60-100 when my current keyboard is still working just fine. Though I guess if my work keyboard ever dies on me, that might be an excuse to get a new keyboard.

There was that case of the fraternal twins where one was like white with red hair and the other was like black.

Good grief Mother Nature sure like to play around with our genes sometimes.
