If anyone else wants to join, say so now or forever hold your peace - roles are likely to start going out in about three hours. Both setups are effectively done and we're close enough to filling the World Cup setup that I'm a little iffy about starting, but I've kept y'all waiting more than long enough and changed my tune on this enough already. I'll try and run WC Mafia in a few months once more people are hopefully free.

This is essentially to preserve the World Cup flavour, because it really doesn't work the way I envision with less players and I would like to keep it open for the future. I know a few people were very specifically interested in this flavour and I don't want to waste what I think are good ideas on a game where they can't be utilised.

So with that, Video Game Console Mafia is scheduled to start at ~7pm EST on Sunday. Roles should be going out on Saturday or possibly tomorrow, and I'll ask for those playing to stop talking in this topic barring confirms once they start going out.

I don't need a co-host for balance checking for this simpler setup, @Kirby321 , but if you're willing, I would appreciate you (or anyone else with an American timezone!) popping in to do votals on occasion?

Still looking for any more for any more! If we're well under the 17 threshold by Thursday evening as is currently looking likely, I'll ping everyone to ensure they're still in if the flavour changes, and have roles out for a smaller and simpler game by Friday, to start either that evening (the 28th) or Saturday (the 29th). Or I can run a slightly less eccentric version of this setup - neither will be a ton of hassle for me, but I am a fan of what I've concocted and wouldn't wanna waste the flavour if I could use it in future and it's simply a bad time for people to sign-up.

I only watched the first three episodes of this season. Some of that I'll attribute to Star Wars burnout, but it's just... not that good. The Dr Pershing episode is actually what made me finally drop it, even though it was a bit more engaging than the other two. I loved Andor, and it seemed like that episode was trying to be it and misunderstanding what made Andor good. There was some decent worldbuilding, but it totally failed at developing characters and seemed to fail to convey whatever it was trying to get at. Reminded me that I would rather be watching Andor, or any one of the number of better shows out there.

I can delay start by a little while for other games to finish and people to be less busy, if y'all think it'll make a difference. I've been pretty busy myself and not mustered up the energy to get the setup round to Kirby, but roles and flavour are just about ready to go for this one.

Alternatively, considering we are pretty badly short, I could theoretically do another setup (Video Game Console Mafia) that is chill to balance with about any number of players, if y'all wanna scratch some mafia itch? That's a much more basic one, but should be relatively chill to balance and I can pull it out to start the weekend after next, provided we don't get the numbers and everyone's happy with that. Also, the flavour is pretty fun and perhaps a bit more likely to pull newer players in? I know there's a few football fans on this board but half of them already play Mafia and the other half have basically no interest.

World Cup Mafia signups. 2022, not 1998 as I erroneously appear to have advertised? Don't ask me why, please.

I'm aiming for 17 players, should be a relatively basic game with some weirder features that may or may not make the cut. Looking to start in ~ a week, likely this coming weekend, so y'all won't be waiting round too long if we get a full roster quickly!

37) Beat a game you'd dropped or had a long hold on: Elden Ring

First time I've beaten a FromSoft game, and it's by far the best I've played. I have a lot of issues with certain fights (especially against anything large. The camera was obviously not designed with some of the later bosses in mind and some big bosses often partially clip through the floor or nearby objects? which I recognise is hard to avoid in a game like this but detracts from the experience pretty badly) and the difficulty curve, but I enjoyed it overall, and the open world is probably the most impressive I've ever seen content-wise. I think I beat it while pretty underleved and using only Rogier's Rapier (which I kept from basically the start and got up to +25 by the end), but there weren't many fights that felt blatantly unfair even while (I think) gimping myself, when compared to other games in the same genre. I'm glad that this sort of game has finally been made playable for those who aren't masochists or crazy good at games.
