How do you feel about the fact that every character was actually fictional in-universe? I didn't like that at first and I still don't really like it but with that context I am able to accept the game for what it is.

I actually don't mind it too much. Once again, it's the right level of wacky and stupid for the series, it doesn't detract from anything too much for me, makes some nice meta-messages and it meant they could do a bit more with the last case. I really want to play the missing 49 Danganronpas now, too.

And yeah, Angie being hated is ridiculous. v3 has the strongest cast, but there's so many nothing or mediocre characters in the series in general that she should never be near the bottom. As long as she's not ranked worse than Hifumi and Teruteru, I wouldn't be angry, but I'm not sure how popular they are particularly in Japan.

Did you know that Angie is one of the most hated characters in the whole game? People hate the Atua thing (I think it's because they don't understand that it's an actual real part of her character that informs the rest of her personality), and that she wants to live in the school forever (because they... uh... don't want the story to have an antagonist who isn't a big evil supervillain i guess).

Holy crap, really? Don't get me wrong, she's not incredibly likable, but she's entertaining and creepy as hell, and semi-intentionally starting a cult in a Danganronpa game is the perfect level of wackiness for the series. Also, she has a ton of yellow in her character design. Everything needs more yellow.

I'm still reeling from the Monokubs not being used as opponents in a scrum debate in the final chapter.

I was so shocked they didn't do that. My first thought as soon as they appeared was "oh of course we need even numbers for the final debate scrum".

They just wouldn't stop bloody talking/existed. They popped up every few minutes, taking a few seconds when doing so and leaving, had a bunch of dialogue which wasn't funny and had no impact on the story half the time, and just overall took me out of any sense of tension or intrigue because my first thought was how I hoped to god they would all die. It felt like they talked more than most of the human characters in the first case. Monomi in DR2 was bad enough, and then they turned around and made an extra five of them. At least they killed them all twice. I was, however, rooting for Monodam to go on a killing spree, and I'm disappointed he never finished the job with Monophanie and Monotaro.

Finally finished v3 after two chapters worth of playing today! Some notes here, and if anyone wants some more fresh takes on the game from 2021, ask away.

I called everyone who would be alive in the last case bar Himiko after the first trial, although I thought Maki would go in chapter 5 at a few stages. I thought Himiko was gonna die in chapter 2, and then chapter 3, but she seemed pretty safe after that because there were too many characters with death flags left alive for them to kill her, honestly. I thought Keebo and Tsumugi were safe for the same reasons (they were my first calls for survivors), and I actually thought Miu would survive the whole game, because exposed tits were the biggest survival flag of all in the previous games.

Kaede is the most likable individual character in the entire series. I know that's what they're going for and she's possibly the most blatant waifu bait, but she still manages to make me smile.

There were 0 awful and stupid as fuck cases in the entire game! As much as I love DR2, there's a couple of cases that are just bad.

The lie mechanic was great, and I wish they'd used it a bit more, but I think once a case isn't a bad amount.

The Monokubs deserved to die in even more painful and visceral ways than they did. They single-handedly nearly ruined 3-1 and I actually cheered when Monokid died.

I would join a cult for Angie.

Are you talking about the newest episode? Lol I loved this stuff. Was also worried they'd cut that going into it as well, figured it might piss some people off.

It's not even the concept I dislike, it's more that it's done badly (imo) and that it's really just not the stuff I watch this kinda show for. I can see why people would like it. Hell, I would be perfectly happy being slapped in the face by Miyamura and called a bad, bad girl. But there's something about the public nature of it, their age, and just how it's portrayed that makes me uncomfortable on top of it being unfunny and cringe rather than clever comedy.

I still haven't finished v3, since I finished the first case and got a little demotivated when I realised they killed off one of two characters who I had even the slightest amount of interest in. I then proceeded to watch Danganronpa 3 the anime, which duly made the rest of the series as a whole worse in almost every way imaginable.

I also forgot to finish my Avengers writeup and you can see the bit I missed, making it even more of a sham because I am stupid. Guessing GotG2 next, finally, even though I wouldn't be shocked if it had a #1. Could also be Ragnarok or Endgame? But I doubt it.

I was gonna say 100% Civil War next but honestly it could be any of Avengers/Ragnarok/Civil War/Endgame

I was in a weird spot with Black Panther. I wasn't sure where to put it, but I think the fact that it says something successfully unlike a lot of other MCU movies propels it way up there despite me not being a huge fan of the characters bar Killmonger, and enjoying it a little less than 6-10 on first viewing. I shoulda been expecting it to go earlier given it's not as fun as a lot of the rest, but everyone jamming on about GotG2 made me buy into the anti-hype.

Just started Horimiya. Very different to what I was expecting and a brilliant OP with an ED that is terrifying in equal measure. It's also one of the increasingly rare cases where I haven't already read the manga which is always welcome in this genre. Hopefully it doesn't go to shit halfway through.

I'm pretty sure they are explicitly said to have the same hair colours in the manga and it's just changed in the anime so you can tell the difference? But I'm not 100% on that.

It's hard for me to say "the villains suck!" when the only really GOOD villain from the first two phases is Loki (though I'll give credit to HYDRA in Winter Soldier as well). Plus, Mandarin's reveal amuses me. Sure, it might not stand up to most of Phase 3 (Which is a class in and of itself, given that it has nearly the same number of films as phases 1 & 2 combined, yet has only lost two thus far), but it's still quality in context.

There's a reason why most of the movies with actual interesting villains are making the top half and this lot aren't! Well, there's a lot, but that's one of them. I think it especially detracts from the earlier movies because without a strong villain to develop the (currently barely characterised) protagonist, you're left with a conflict that there's no reason to care about and a less interesting or nonexistent change in the character because of them. I'd enjoy stuff like the Hulk or IM3 as much or more if the main villains just weren't there at all and the plot rewritten around that.

Iron Man 3 is weird. I like the heavy focus on Tony and his character direction but the villains are just bad and there's a lot of better films in the MCU which I also enjoy more.

Gotta be Ant Man next? It's looking increasingly like my bottom half bar one is gonna be the bottom half of the overall ranking which is pretty unsurprising, given I think I only have two or three MCU hot takes

I dunno about you but I actually got the games because of mafia (like it's basically mafia in anime game form) and I've been absolutely powering through them. Going to finish v3 these next couple of weeks so I can read any playthrough topic straight away because these writeups are gold. I also have Ultra Despair Girls but will probably give that one and the anime a miss for the time being

I forgot I placed Ultron that high up but then I remembered how many films that are just okay are below it and understood why. It's probably Iron Man 3 next over Ant Man 2 and that's a shame, but both have gotta be gone pretty soon anyway. Also, I would like to retract my statement regarding Elizabeth Olsen because I forgot Lupita Nyong'o is in the MCU when I was doing my Ultron writeup. Even the accent isn't enough, sorry.

Just finished DR2 today. Thank you again for helping me solve the shitty gravel/swimsuit thing which is possibly the worst solution in the game. I can finally read the whole topic too! I mostly agree with you on the characters, especially that they're better in this game, but Kaizuchi sucks. He only exists as a plot device and is unbearable whenever he is around and goddammit why would they kill Hiyoko instead of him? Did that asshole really just survive so he could fix an elevator and be useless for another two chapters? I think this game had the stronger cast by far, but the survivors were relatively worse than the original's. Not that hard when there were only five decent characters in the first compared to eleven in this one, but still. Also, the voice acting is such a step up in this game, and I thought Nagisa was Makoto from the start because I figured out the anagram as soon as he started jerking off to hope, thought I was really smart, and then it ended up meaning nothing.
