The novel was written by a gay man, and the screenplay was created and directed by feminist women in order to mock toxic masculinity and the shallow, vicious aspects of postmodern capitalism.

And yet, the very people that the author and director/writer mocks are the ones that love the film the most.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2024/04/10/john-stockton-vaccines-covid-19-lawsuit-utah-jazz-nba/73269310007/

Excerpt:
NBA legend John Stockton has submitted a declaration in federal court that details the reasons for his recent rebellion against vaccines and COVID-19 restrictions reasons that are at odds with science and instead rooted in personal experiences or misconceptions. Stockton, 62, said in the declaration filed Tuesday that he noticed a pattern after he contracted the flu decades ago despite getting the flu vaccine. He said one of his children was harmed by vaccines, though he didnt say how. He also said he listened to the advice of a chiropractor who told him to consider not vaccinating my children.

It should be noted that chiropractors arent epidemiologists trained in investigating patterns and causes of illnesses such as the flu and COVID. Also, flu vaccines arent 100% effective because there are different strains of the flu, a virus that changes over time. Vaccines instead can reduce the risk and severity of the illness, according to the Mayo Clinic and other scientific sources. A pattern was emerging, Stockton said in the declaration filed in U.S. District Court in Spokane, Wash. I contracted the flu despite the vaccine. My child was hurt because of the vaccine. Maybe there was some truth in our Chiropractors words. I spent a lot of time over the next 30 years reading books, paying attention, and asking questions.

To find the truth, I used a mosaic approach seeking data, anecdotal information, personal experience, common-sense and contrary indicators. Stockton submitted the declaration in support of his lawsuit against Washington state officials who cracked down on COVID-19 misinformation from doctors. The lawsuit claims that some doctors free-speech rights were violated because they spoke against the mainstream Covid narrative. He and other plaintiffs also filed a motion Tuesday that seeks a preliminary injunction to stop the defendants from investigating or sanctioning physicians for speaking out in any public forum against the government endorsed Covid narrative.

Stockton, a basketball Hall of Famer, has a street named after him in Salt Lake City and a statute of his likeness outside his former NBA arena there. He noted his mother and sister were nurses and that he grew up in an environment "where we trusted our doctors, took medications as prescribed and followed the vaccine schedule at the time." He then apparently changed his mind, citing his NBA career and all the medical professionals he worked with, including the chiropractor who worked with his team, the Utah Jazz. Stockton recalled how he didnt miss a game in 17 seasons but missed 18 games one season because of surgery (1997) and four more games another season (1989-90). Two of those games were because I got the flu and spent a night or two in a Charlotte NC hospital, he said in the declaration. That season, I had received the flu vaccine.

into making abortion a Constitutional right. The vote was 780 yay, 72 nays.

https://www.meidastouch.com/news/france-becomes-first-nation-to-make-abortion-a-constitutional-right-in-50-years

France became the first nation in 50 years to make abortion a constitutional right on Monday. The 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson U.S Supreme Court ruling, which overturned Roe v. Wade in the United States, was the inspiration for a bill to enshrine reproductive healthcare freedom in that nation's constitution. The introduction to the bill reads: "Unfortunately, this event [in the US] is not isolated: in many countries, even in Europe, there are currents of opinion that seek to hinder at any cost the freedom of women to terminate their pregnancy if they wish."

"We're sending a message to all women: your body belongs to you and no one can decide for you," Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said in a speech to parliament. The bill passed overwhelmingly with a 780-72 vote in a joint session of parliament on Monday after being approved in the French Senate last week. French President Emmanuel Macron had promised to deliver constitutional protection for abortion since that right was removed in the United States in 2022.

The only other nation to make abortion a constitutional right since the United States in 1973 was the former Yugoslavia in 1974. France decriminalized abortion in 1975, largely inspired by the Roe ruling. "This right [to abortion] has retreated in the United States. And so nothing [permitted] us to think that France was exempt from this risk," said Laura Slimani, from the abortion rights organization Fondation des Femmes. Celebrations erupted throughout Paris when news of the vote was reported. Abortion has an 80% approval rating in France.

Does buying up debt mean that the government is paying full price from health providers?
I have concerns that canceling debt is only putting more tax money into the hands of service providers who over-charge for basically anything medically related.

If however, we are getting a deal on the debt -- such as buying up debt at 50 cents off the dollar, then this is something that's worth supporting as cost-efficient.

The typical argument is that we don't provide for people's needs, and have shrunken the public sphere/social services/social relationships of care in favor of "the economy" and private property so that we now need police to clean up the aftermath through force. The idea would be to take care of people's needs to the point where armed force is no longer necessary to keep things running.

Yeah, when people say 'Defund the Police'. They actually mean, defund this particular department of the police, and replace it with a combination of peace officers, criminal investigations, social services, and first responders. Defund the Police actually means, "Reforming hasn't worked. We must completely REORGANIZE law enforcement and start fresh."

The problem with Five Guys is that they have a standardized economic system.

Our food prices fluctuate. We do not base our price on anything but margins. We raise our prices to reflect whatever our food costs are. So if the mayonnaise guy triples his price, we pay triple for the mayonnaise! And then we'll increase the price of our product. About five years ago, hurricanes killed the tomato crop in Florida, and prices went from $17 to $50 a case. So a few of my franchisees called and said, "We're not using tomatoes. The prices are too high." I suggested using one slice instead of two. My kids were furious: "It should be two! Always!" They were right -- it's too easy to start slipping down that slope. We stuck with two slices, and so did our franchisees.

So, the past 10 year trend of price inflation on food costs, transportation costs, and real estate affected Five Guys much more than other franchises.

It's an economic system
Just to be clear, in human history, an economic system is pretty much synonymous with the socio-political system, and how we view property rights is intrinsically tied with how we enforce laws.

You can have police and feudalism at the same time.
If Knights and Samurai, etc. count as police, then the concept of police has existed since before the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. Even tribal justice had some form of 'police'. You'd have to go all the way back to Caveman, Nomadic tribes then.

Doesn't look like any in the south east
Marijuana use is more spread out everywhere, that's why I didn't include it.

Certainly it's notable that the Northeast is completely absent from the list, but why pick on the South and not the West?
Midwest 'culture' typically extends all the way to the mountains, imo. If I am referring something as West, I will mean that it's mostly just west coast.
Arizona / rural Nevada culture is more similar to Texas than it is to the West Coast.

I think if you are shitting it down the drain then that's one way to NOT become a parent.
I'm sure there are many parents who believe that their experiences with children is metaphorically just shitting money down the drain.

You need "a" way to enforce laws. In absence of the police, we generally get mob justice. It's up to you if you want to decide that's preferable. Society did survive with it for thousands of years so it's not impossible but I don't think people in those times lived that well compared to today.

No. Society survived without police by using a feudal system during the middle ages. When it wasn't a feudal system, then it was imperialistic / military.
