For me, anyway. Obviously, you can just phone it in and blow like 20 minutes on it in a day and be done, but yeah. Early days especially, that thing can rob you of many hours. Basically it goes as scum posting takes more effort (if you're pinned, anyway-- otherwise you can just lurk a lot), as town reading takes more effort. That's how I find it. In any case it's definitely a big waste of time even if you're slacking-- and a bigger waste of time if you're good. Going into 2008, I was disappointed to see 4 ways return, but still excited for a contest. Then there was an unannounced one week break, and in that time the cautious optimism I had evaporated, and a lot of my excitement for contests just left and never came back. I don't think the week delay had anything to do with it, but that's the point when I stopped caring as much.
