The whole gamefaqs never changes argument is a bit of a separate issue to the problems at hand in the rivalries contest. The sites favourite companies are by a landslide Nintendo and Square. Square have been poor in the last 10 years and Nintendo haven't made a new IP of worth since the 90's. The crucial point is that if a FFVII quality game were to be released by Square today I don't doubt it could spawn the birth of a new Cloud. That quality of game in genres the gamefaqs people like just hasn't been around since, evidenced by the strength of Majora/FFX in the game of the decade contest. The golden era of Squintendo ended there for most people. Smash Bros and Kingdom Hearts being aside blips from the 10 years since. On the contest, it was a bad bracket. It could have been better but it was stupidly made and wasted its potential. You could ruin any of the greatest contests we've had by shuffling round the brackets. The whole reaction to Link winning is a bit naive considering we've seen it every contest minus 1 for the past 8 years. I just like new blood. Anyway, Ulti made some excellent points before he started on the ridiculous social life tirade. The GotD contest was the best we've seen IMO. We had upsets and close matches several times a week, were dealing with a ton of unknowns, the bracket setup was almost perfect and it got great votals. Excellent contest. And yes, if we had a best game ever contest with no OoT or FFVII in the main bracket, it would be the same situation. I'd take ALttP myself, but it would be debatable. This one was a bad idea from the start AND it was poorly designed. Furthermore, if it was a contest designed to give Link/Ganon a scare, what a terrible time to hold the contest; this is LoZ's twenty-fifth anniversary, LoZ:OoT3D came out earlier in the year, and LoZ:SS released mid-contest. That's a tough task for anyone already trying to do the near-impossible of defeating Link. We've rebounded from bad contests before and can again. The rallying would have happened either way, and probably would have happened against Melee. I mean, Brawl actually WON in Melee's strongest area.
