The study has a lot of interesting statistics, that one in particular was interesting though.

I would assume so. Its one of the driving factors for people leaving the state.

Taxes are already low in CA and real estate prices depend on the market. CA's population is growing above the national rate so there's not a whole lot you can do about property prices aside from building upwards which is what LA is doing.

sort of.

https://sf.curbed.com/2018/3/9/17100238/poll-2018-leaving-san-francisco-oakland-silicon-valley
And the big shocker: Of the 500 Bay Area residents polled, 49 percent agree with the statement I am considering moving away from California because of the high cost of living. Statewide, 58 percent of Millennials and 65 percent of parents echoed the sentiment.

it was 49% of the bay area that said it considered moving away from california thanks to high cost of living. i can't say i blame them.

Tbh. The only real problems areas are the bay. Prices are raising from here all the way up to Sac.

At least in LA you can find an affordable place in a moderately decent area. No way in the Bay.

I think it's funny how obviously a big reason why it's so expensive to live in CA is because the weather is nice and there are beaches and lots of entertainment attractions...yet people want to have their cake and eat it too and bitch about how it's too expensive that they need to be paid a better wage so they can live comfortably *and* enjoy all the things CA has to offer. Pisses me off, really. We don't get to have both nice things in other parts of the country, so neither should you.

So it's jealousy then.

Makes sense.

It can be tough to make it in California. The job centers and nice cities are super expensive, while commuting from a decent suburb is like having a second, part-time job. There's plenty of space but not enough housing and not enough water. Lots of people are unhappy, yet far fewer than 50% of them actually end up moving, and net migration into the state is so large that CA's total population is still growing faster (in percentage terms) than most other states.

People complain, but CA's primary problem is that the demand to live here far outstrips what the housing market and ecosystem can support.

The worst part about all these Californians leaving is that they didn't learn their fucking lesson, though. They'll take their incredibly shitty politics with them and infect other state legislations until there's more Californias all over the place. Like what's happening in Austin Texas as far as I've heard.

A bunch of Californian millennial clowns relocated there to ride the tech boom and the real estate prices and cost of living in general skyrocketed. *shrug*

It is, but the problem is exacerbated in CA by the skyrocketing cost of housing and suburban sprawl hopelessly outpacing infrastructure upgrades. Wages are higher in CA but the percent of income spent on housing here is worse than anywhere else in the nation.

I'm sure it's worse in CA. But leaving CA won't suddenly make that problem go away either. Plus i'm sure the tariff war Trump is trying to do will do a lot of harm too.

Agree'd. The steel/aluminum tariffs, combined with the Trump "infrastructure plan" (which proposes to flip federal/local funding from 80/20 to 20/80) are going to kill infrastructure projects for the foreseeable future.

Central banking enabled this. Its why governments around the world spent like drunken sailors over the past 100 years. Endless war and free welfare for all. It numbs the pain from idiotic spending. But when the market forces interest rates higher, it will finally push governments into sobriety.

Its one reason I dont take leftists seriously when they piss and moan about tax cuts. A couple percentage points here and there wont make our tens of trillions in unfunded liabilities any more affordable. They (social security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) will go tits up either way and no amount of tax increases will change that.

I recently left CA. Its fun in your 20s but sucks if you want to raise a family. Real estate is in another bubble and taxes are high because a bunch of people vote to require you to pay their bills. Traffic sucks especially if you dont rent, and areas with decent schools are extremely competitive.

Edit: I was in LA. I have one kid on the way and its tough to save when I have to also pay for other peoples kids.

I think it's more the fact that people want to use high real estate prices as an example of a failed state. Like tons of rich people moving to CA and competing for housing is the liberals fault.

Conservatives don't hate CA, they fear it. A liberal state being the economic engine of the country is very damaging to the conservative narrative.

It's actually their fault though. They're holding the real estate market hostage by refusing to allow more construction to happen. They barely allowed more housing to be built in Mountain View just recently, and it's not even in numbers that will put a dent in the housing prices there.

And this is nonsense. The reason it's the economic engine of the country is because of technology. It just happened to be where the companies that kick-started silicon valley had their start. But that boom is spreading to many other states, including Texas and Georgia.

I wish they would leave. These developer fucks have ruined miles and miles of land with their damn cookie cutter housing tracks (Americans value their freedom to be individuals my ass!). They put 4 homes on the same piece of land my home from the 50s sits on. Build them with cruddy materials on top of artificially raised pads. No yards. Then sell these pieces of shit for 400k+. And idiots buy them. Then the foundations start cracking in a few years and these people are having to retrofit them. There's all sorts of those little businesses around too. Quality!
My city is in the crosshairs next. They already plan on building 7k new homes in the next few years. Do we have stores to support them? No. Will they be building any? No. We're designated a "bedroom community" so says the county consultant the city listens to. Schools? No. Are the roads capable of the increased traffic? No. Same two lane residential roads to be used as main entrances for these projects. Does our city have the utilities to handle a 60% increase in the population? No. Reports are it will be beyond the breaking point. Police and fire? No. But oh no, we have to build it all because "the future!" And I guarantee you a few years down the line the city will increase rates left and right and float bonds that'll increase our property taxes by the hundreds to put in all the things needed for these fucks. They should be the ones paying for this shit not those of us who have been here our whole lifetimes.
God I wish the market would collapse again.

I wish people would leave. Or stay wherever all these bastards are in the first place instead of moving out my ways and wrecking everything.
