My hockey league announced their summer league rosters and for some reason they pick your team name for you... maybe because the season is shorter and you don't always make your own roster. Anyway, they always go with a theme for team names. Last year was dog breeds and there were teams like the yorkies, poodles, schnauzers, etc, so I was hoping for something good.

This year the theme is apparently hockey lingo and our team is the Five Holes, which is very lame.
There is a team called the Suck Holes... I would give anything for that to be our name

Don't worry, to me you'll always be a suck hole.

So for most of 2018 I haven't been eating sweets of any kind and as a result when I do decide to partake the stakes are incredibly high. For the most part I've been disappointed and just wished I had eaten a candy bar or something. Anyway, I'm gearing up to get some ice cream soon. Have you ever had Thai rolled ice cream? It looks so cool but I'm afraid it won't taste as good as it looks when I could get some frozen custard instead! There are so many artisan ice cream shops in St. Louis that I want to try, but there's honestly an extremely low chance they're as good as the one that's like 100 years old, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard

You don't have to use headset. 95% of the time I'm playing with friends, but when I'm alone I never talk. It admittedly helps; for instance let's say you saw a guy flanking behind. If you called it out, the team could turn around and deal with him. If you don't say anything, the guy uses ultimate and kills four of you and you lose the game. In normal games I don't really care, but if you really wanna win, you should use the mic to at least call out stuff.

I don't know how to answer the lebron vs Jordan GOAT debate, but it makes me think of gretzky, who is the indisputable GOAT. I'm not sure if other sports that i don't follow as closely have a for sure , but hockey definitely does. The world will end before anyone even gets close to his records.

Gretzky has so many insane records that it's beyond even video game stats. One of my favorites is that gretzky leads all nhl players in points (goals+assists). If you subtract every goal he scored, he's still #1 in points.

That's just dumb. I've looked at his stats before and I can't really contextualize them too well but I remember comparing him year to year to like Sidney Crosby or whoever I knew to be good at the time and thinking like oh he had 8x as many goals as Crosby does when he was his age.

In baseball it's all completely disputed all the time. There are too many factors that get people riled up (PEDs primarily but Ruth didn't play against non whites for example) but the one thing I can think of is that Pedro Martinez at his peak was the best pitcher who ever lived. You'll get some love for peak Sandy Koufax and Kershaw had momentum for a minute there but really Pedro is the only reasonable stance to take for GOAT peak

Yeah in that sense, baseball seems like football where the positions are different enough (or there are more positions than basketball and hockey), that you can't put 1 player as the goat, but can do it position by position maybe?

I've also read an article that Ruth was the best of his era, but nowadays any 12 year old in the Dominican republic can hit better than him.

I sometimes think about how lucky I was to see some of the greatest athletes of all time when I was a kid in the 90s. It's probably what turned me into such a big sports fan as I got older.

NBA: Jordan - I think he is easily still the GOAT but LeBron is in the conversation

MLB: Bonds - Maybe the best hitter of all time. Probably not GOAT because of PEDs. Hard to pick a pitcher. I think Pedro, Johnson and Maddux are all great 90's pitchers, but I don't know if there's a consensus GOAT pitcher in any era.

NHL: Gretzky - Without a doubt the GOAT.

NFL: Montana, Rice - Too many positions so it's hard to say, plus Brady has probably surpassed Montana at this point. I hear Rice being called GOAT every now and then because of how far ahead he is of other WRs. He's like Gretzky in that regard.

PGA: Tiger was on the GOAT path, but now we're seeing he's probably going to end up second to Jack Nicklaus.

Gretzky's records are untouchable because that video game NHL doesn't exist anymore. I think Lemieux was close--his point per game pace was within 0.1 of Gretzky, if I recall correctly--but health really messed him up.

Anyways, Lebron is the NBA GOAT. Fight me.

No, Walter Johnson is the GOAT for baseball. 110 shutouts (a record that still stands), 417 wins (second-most all-time), 2.17 ERA (12th lowest all-time), 3,508 strikeouts (a record that stood for 55 years until Nolan Ryan broke it, and is now 8th all-time), 3 time Triple Crown winner. And he played for a team that was known for mediocrity. If he had played for Boston or the Yankees, he might have surpassed Cy Young for career wins. And he was a power-pitcher that threw sidearmed.

3,508 strikeouts over 20 years. That's 175.4 a year, or about one per inning. And he still managed 110 shutouts, despite only having one-two pitches (fastball and later a curveball)
