While I agree with that being a stretch, "he has no place in Smash" is bullshit. He has as much of a place as fuckin Snake, Cloud, Bayonetta and other shit. If they decide to put him in it means they can make him work, and it's not a stretch to see how he might work.

It doesn't rule out future Goku DLC but it likely means Goku isn't in the base game. It's also possible he is lying to try and cover up the leak but usually a person would just refrain from commenting if the leak is real since they don't want to risk NDA violations.

I agree with thinking 'never say never', but Snake and Sonic breaking the barrier of Nintendo characters only is one thing, introducing a non-gaming character is something else entirely. It's possible because Smash still finds ways to surprise, but I'd consider it very unlikely.

Goku has a lot of video games, but no one would ever consider him to be a video game character. DBZ games altogether have sold 41 million copies, Harry Potter games have sold 40 million copies, yet I assume everyone would agree that Ron Weasley has no place in Smash.

Sakurai considered James Bond for Melee because of Goldeneye. I think that would have qualified.

What would Goku add to the game mechanically? Sakurai seems to like adding characters who have weird gimmicks. I've never played a DBZ game.

They could just not have him fly all the time like they do in Dragon Ball FighterZ. That game is loaded with people who could fly forever, but they dont in the game

Because if there was someone who wouldn't be from a video game that could get in, Goku would 100% be the candidate. He's just that massive and crosses across so many borders, appealing to so many people.

All I'm saying is that he certainly has the qualifications for being considered, whether he actually SHOULD be put in is up for debate. But saying things like "he has no place in Smash" is silly.

Sakurai has to be aware of it at this point. You know Toriyama and Toei would let it happen, Toriyama literally came up with the plot for Tournament of Power in a day and drew Jiren on a napkin. He gives zero shits. Toei loves money.

That just leaves Sakurai, and if Goku really DID top the polls like people suspect, it might fucking happen. I wouldn't even be mad. The world would explode if it were announced.

I don't know why it's such a difficult concept to understand why Goku WOULD be the character that breaks that. The likelihood that they do? Probably very low, there's tons of other video game characters that would still be great being in, the agreements they would have to make with other companies, so on and so forth. But he very clearly WOULD be a character that could be suited to Smash if they so decided.

This all stemmed from Walugi saying "he has no place in Smash" which is still just a silly statement to me, coming from a pretty elitist place. Personally sure you don't want non-video game characters in, alright that's fine. But saying there's NO WAY he gets in BECAUSE of that? Pssssh.

I still stand by it. He absolutely has no place in smash. As does any non-video game character. This isn't some shitty mugen game we're talking about here. Also I don't see a very fun or unique moveset coming out of him. Plus the TONS of other Nintendo and potential 3rd parties characters still available.
