What would you say are your other top 5 sport series.
Whistle!
Hikaru no Go
Hajime no Ippo
Rookies
Haikyuu or Ace of diamonds probably

I'd have to look through my ratings.

My top five for sports would be something like

Major
One Outs
Scorching Ping Pong Girls
Hanebado
Hajime no Ippo

Something like that? If you count Hikaru no Go as sports, I'd put Akagi higher. Bakuon and Teekyuu are kinda sorta sports series which are also great. Haikyuu's second season was quite good, but I'm not the biggest fan. Preferred Kuroko for recent shounen stuff.

Haikyuu S1 beated. Pretty good show.

I think as of now the characters don't have enough agency outside of the realm of volleyball for this to reach the absolute top tier of shows. But, the games themselves are extremely exciting to watch, and within the volleyball world they do provide a lot of moments for the characters to shine. Also I like that there's a variety of different teams and styles out there which is always keeping things fresh (or at least it has for 25 episodes anwyays). All in all the show does a fantastic job keeping me on the edge of my seat and excited to see what happens next, which is really all the show needs to do.

Also the unsung hero of this show is definitely Takeda-sensei. Just an all around stand-up dude who always tries his best to learn about the sport and who just wants the best for his students.

I mean if this really bothered me I probably wouldn't have picked up the show in the first place (because it's very easy to anticipate this with a sports series). All I meant is that the show doesn't tick off every single check box on the list of things I would like to see, but really very few shows are able to do that. If a show even manages to check off 1 or 2 its usually doing pretty well and Haikyuu is definitely ahead of the game from that standpoint.

I started reading Tower of God earlier and just got past where the anime is. Art starts rough but it's still a great read, but MAN is the anime putting in a ton of work. There's also minor little differences here and there that I imagine are the result of them adjusting for future content. Certainly enjoying it so far.

The Webtoons app is crazy good, too? The setup does such a good job of supplying a recommended list of series to start with, and the reader itself is excellent. Not super surprising since manwha were crated with mobile scrolling in mind, they were much better in a phone than manga.

146 of 477 chapters into Tower of God (appears it updates weekly just like a normal weekly series).

If there was one flaw I could name its that there seems like there may be too many players on the field...but I can recognize and follow all of them, so maybe not an issue TBQH. In fact, one of the strengths is that there are a good amount of recognizable recurring background characters who don't actually have any relevance on the plot, but still serve the purpose of grounding the progression together.

Also there's at least 12 seasons of anime here so far based on the chaoter to episode ratio we've seen in season 1.

I swear I'll stop gushing about it soon, but the funny thing is after episode 6 came out today I suddenly have more of an appreciation for the Tower of God OP, and how what little bits that are in there actually matter.

Not that I'm gonna say it's good, it's still half white text on a black background, but it's better than I was going on about at the beginning of the season.

You pay a set amount per chapter, per series, so finding more you enjoy wouldn't actually make a diff in how much you're paying for ToG specifically.

Thoughts on some stuff I've watched recently after going a while without really watching any anime

Beastars: Surprisingly contemplative and mature high school drama. It's in a weird spot where I felt it was slightly overhyped, but without that hype I probably never would have checked it out. Probably one of the better uses of CG in anime in recent memory. The OP is an absolute banger. Louis best character.

Black Lagoon OVAs: I watched the original series years ago and never got around to Robertas Blood Trail, so there were a few characters I didnt remember all that well. Its still a great action packed series with fantastic atmosphere. The plot armor for certain characters isnt anything new for the series but I did feel it was a bit extreme here. Still great.

Kakegerui Season 2: Im a sucker for stuff like this with high stakes mind games and reactions and this didnt disappoint. I liked the usage of characters from the first season and most of the gambles were still great. It doesnt end at a satisfying spot really but thankfully I knew that going in. I never expect a subsequent season for anime but I do hope this is resumed in the future.

Cautious Hero: One of the few series where Ive read part of the manga before seeing the anime (maybe the first two episodes worth of material?). Its got some good gags and lampoons a fair few isekai tropes while just staying under the limit of overusing those jokes. Everything in the gods realm is gold. It has a surprisingly strong last few episodes and I think everything ties up well enough that Im not really sure that it needs a continuation.

ive been slowing moving through stuff from last season and some quick thoughts on teh stuff

Interspecies Reviewers
-So, I didn't actually start watching this until after the whole meme was going around about the show being the best ever. (tbf, i was not watching most shows until after that). I don't think it's a bad show, but as an ecchi that borders very close to hentai it's in a weird place. Like, it's not a harem and while I like the main cast the characters are not quite good enough to carry the show. Also, maybe I missed it but they didn't do a demon girl part?

Haikyuu S4
-Overall, I thought this was a great but also a somewhat slow moving and not quite as exciting season of the series. It's the first part I scored lower than a 10 (giving it an 8). It just seems like a huge season of set up.

Darwin's Game
-I got a lot of Mirai Nikki vibes from this, including the weird way the mc kind of "awakens" near the end of the show. I think the cast as a whole is pretty good, but I don't think any of them are memorable. I think a big factor is none of them really do anything that makes them very magnetic. Besides chain girl and the main bad guy a lot of the cast just has a subdubbed personality a lot of the time where when you compare it to something like Mirai Nikki or I guess even something I'd consider to be about as "good" as this show in Akame ga Kill the larger than life personalities in those shows stand out a lot more.

Bofuri
-I like this show, it has a good take on the overpowered rpg player that makes it pretty funny. It does get kind of old near the end, but not enough to make it unenjoyable. I really like how dumb a lot of the power ups are. I do think Maple pretty much hard carries the show as the rest of the cast is kind of meh. I also like the giant turtle.

Keep Your Hands off Eizouken
-The level of imagination and just how it portrays the thoughts of the characters coming to life, as well as the experience of those watching it in the show is amazing. I think this is a one of kind show that is a must watch for an anime fan. As of right now, having only a couple of other shows I have not finished for the season that I have not dropped, this is the show of the past season that's not a sequel or continuation.

Toilet Bound Hanako
-I really liked this. Hanako and Nene have great chemistry with each other. The exorcist dude is pretty good too. The show does a good job at mixing together both comedy and genuine horror (at least as good as anime can do it for the most part). I really liked the presentation of exploring things like the cliche of "school wonders" and expanding on them to give the world a lot of life and a very eerie vibe when you think about it.

Somali and the Forest Spirit
-I thought this was a decent show, but I also think it was a little too heavy handed in its presentation. Like they go from place to place and the end realization is almost always the same in some way. I think one of the dangers in "traveling shows" is that the leads have to be incredible because reoccurring don't happen that often. I don't think the leads are incredible. It was nice to see the development of the Golem and a lot of the show seemed somewhat like a supernatural parent/child show? But I was not as impressed with Somali herself, but I mean shes like 5? So I guess I can forgive that a bit. There is a lot of good stuff in the show, like the contained arcs are great in a vacuum and it does a great job at keeping you engaged in whats happening in the moment, but makes it hard to care beyond it.

Id:Invaded
-I thought this was a terrific show. In terms of presentation and how the rules of the shows work I was really engaged after a somewhat confusing opener. 100% would suggest this.

Isekai Quartet S2
-I thought this was good, but not as good a the first season. It did have some funny highlights though like the dodgeball game.

Magia Record
-It was not until the arc with the ai where I really felt very invested overall. Like, I think one of the things that hurts this when compared to the original is that it really beats around the bush getting to stuff we already know about the world and stuff and it doesn't really fill the that time with things that are making the choices of plights of the main cast much more dire until they just rev everything up near the end. This is a show that is almost good, but it's almost like the writer (or writers maybe?) didn't really understand what made the original a good show.

Seton Gakuen Join the Pack!
-I know a lot of people think this is kind of a dumb show without a lot of substance, but I loved this show. It's so cute. The casts gimmicks are great. Even in the later episode when Jin was just introducing each animal as "stupid -insert animal here-" was pretty good. Ranka is just adorable, and the rest of the cast has tons of great moments too.

If my favorite idol made it to the Budokan, I would die.
-A show that is kind of creepy and kind of endearing. It's about a small idol group and their relationship with their dedicated fans. The anime is somewhat of a slow burn in like how much I liked it, at first it was an okay show, but near the end the passion and dedication of everyone really shines through. It's a very awkward comedy with some minor romance hints.

Nekopara
-This is a pretty "okay" show? I thought the new anime only cat cacao was really cute. I also liked the rest of the girls for the most part but don't really like any of them enough to say I have a favorite, they are just okay. I will say though I did really like the ED. Doesn't do anything bad but also rarely does anything great.

Smile on the Runway
-One credit i can give this is how leveled the finale is and how characters seemed to have actually learned things and are going to take what they learn to be better at what they do. I do think a lot of it seems kind of unbalanced and in places rather rushed in its presentation and progression of its characters.

Asteroid in Love
-I'd say this was just lackluster show. I somewhat liked the premise and the connection the mains had, but the cast as a whole was just not very memorable in a genre that is stacked with amazing casts.

Case files of jeweler Richard
-This was one of the first shows I actually finished and I thought it was okay if you just take the episodic stories, but beyond the BL doesn't really have a lot of substance to it.

Past season
MHA S4
-I thought this was another good season that revealed quite a bit and developed more characters, but it also has not really done anything that interesting after the big ending the third season had. Also Mina is best girl.

Chihayafuru S3
-I don't think I really need to talk about how good this season and series overall is. This anime has high marks across the board. It matches the highs you get from shows like Haikyuu but also manages to handle the emotional and romantic angles wonderfully too. I'm not sure if this is as good as the second season, but the way it addresses lingering questions about the characters in ways that are realistic and understandable, and at the same time didn't make anyone seem like a bad person or like a copout is a surprising rarity.

shows that got dropped
Infinite Dendrogram
Pet
Orphen
Overflow (albeit this is pretty much just a hentai)
Hatena Illusion
Number 24
Uchi Tama

If the show is not on the list I have not finished it yet (like Dorohedoro) or I am having some issues finding it. Or just don't plan to pick it up (ARP)

I have some problems with it, some world-building problems that I had since the start and it didn't really go away even after it finished, some other nitpicks here and there, but it ended fun enough. It's a fun show, still enjoyable. And quite the looker at a lot of points.
