It's more of a dig at the FBI wasting resources that could be used for other, you know, more important things like actually investigating school shooting threats thoroughly. It was in poor taste but he's not entirely incorrect.

Yes he is. The FBI isn't just some mass of people all doing the same thing. If those people weren't investigating Trump, they still probably wouldn't be investigating school shooting threats. You might as well be saying the janitors should stop mopping floors and start stopping terrorism.

What Trump said is deplorable and indefensible. He's just doing what Trump has done his entire life and made something all about him.

Lets not forget that this game has magic potions. Something that also did not exist in 15th century Bohemia. If those can get a pass, I think some dark skinned people can.

Where were the Muslims and Asians in Red Dead Redemption? It's well documented that a lot of Asians came over during the gold rush and there's no doubt that at least some people worshipped Islam even in the US. Why weren't there any representation there? And that's a much more mainstream series. I don't think I recall any Muslims in call of duty either.

I think RDR came out before nitpicking things in video games was really a thing.

RDR2 is coming out soon and I'll be quite shocked if things change with it. Tomb Raider definitely came out around when the nitpickings were happening (there some weird off base controversy over her being raped). I don't recall any Asian or Muslim characters there.

Lara's best friend was Japanese and there was a Pacific Islander in her group too. He returned in the sequel.

Interesting difference in reaction from the MSM. A school shooting happens, and the MSM is very eager to give angry pro-gun control advocates a microphone. It's very important that the country has a serious discussion about gun control.

But when somebody drives a truck through a crowd of people, it's a time for sadness and changing Facebook profile pictures. It's certainly not time to give angry people the microphone to start a discussion about borders.

Do borders keep out homegrown terrorism?

Bullying should lead to getting expelled.

Kicking children out of school benefits no one. That is not sensible discipline. You're not teaching a kid a lesson. You're damning him for life for being a shithead kid.

The kid will go to another school and hopefully remembers what happens if he starts bullying someone. Bullying can have severe consequences, you know. Should another kid suffer, so that the bully won't have to suffer?

What is with these either or arguments in this topic? "Kick him out or let him keep bullying other kids. It's a no brainer to expel him!"

Oh and just for shits and giggles the most interesting thing about this issue was that in the article itself it says that 80% of people in the world spank their children.

The majority of the world also believes in deities. The majority of the world doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

Not to mention, there was a time when the majority of the world thought the world was flat and drank unpurified, unfiltered water.

The point is that the majority do not have children who have mental disorders as the science presented seems to suggest would happen if there were an actual causal relationship of spanking to mental disorders.

That isn't as all what the science presents. Yeah, that's a possibility I guess, but they also say it just isn't very effective.

My younger brother never hit or anything and he's a fucking terror of a teenager. Literally one of those kids the tide pod generation exemplifies

And literally the same with my girlfriend. Her younger brother is 22 and still lives at home with no drivers license, friends, or job

Does/did your younger brother ever receive any kind of significant consequences? I think along with spanking you (and most of us who grew up in the late 80s/early 90s) got spanked as well as other significant consequences.

I work in schools and from what I can tell a lot of the more troublesome kids don't really have ANY consequences for their bad behavior at home. I personally don't believe you need to get hit to turn into a functional/decent person but you definitely need consequences of some sort while growing up.

People are really missing this point. Kids that behave poorly are typically spoiled rotten or have no real parental presence. It's not because parents talking to their kids and punish them forget to throw in some spanking first.

It's kind of scary how a decent amount of people who were hit as children are so adamant that it had to be why they "turned out fine". It's the same mentality many abuse victims have. "If they put me through that, then it had to be for a good reason and everyone else is lying."

Like 4 people is not a generation.

It's a damn shame you think you had to be abused (since you said more than spanking) for your entire childhood to be a decent person. I am sorry you went through that. I can relate. I turned out fine too but I would never do that to a child.

FL needs to have background checks as it sounds like they do NOT have them, andcthe person who bought the gun sounds like an under age minor. They should not have been legally allowed to sell or even willing to sell a rifle or gun of any sort to a high schooler.

FL needs some serious changes for gun buying, there is a reason they have you fill out forms and get checked before they will sell you anything in many states for a good reason.

I love guns but background checks, and paper work are something I agree with as no one with mental issues, a criminal background, or a juvie record of violence should ever have a gun.

You are required to undergo a background check buying through ANY licensed dealer. Its a federal law. Cruz bought it at 19, which is above the legal age to purchase long guns. The fact that he was still in school was irrelevant.

Health records are sealed by HIPAA and flagging mental health issues is actually a violation of that law, unless the buyer consents to releasing that information.

mental health isn't a good qualifier anyways. look at all the gangbangers and terrorists shooting each other. do they all have mental illnesses?

Maybe.

The issue isn't that those parents aren't hitting their kids, the issue is that they're not parenting them period or parenting them properly. Studies have actually shown kids who are spanked are more likely to act out, develop behavioral issues, mental health issues such as depression, higher rates of domestic abusers, as well as more likely to continue the cycle by spanking their own kid.

Talk to the overwhelming majority of experts in psychology, child psychology, and child development and they'll almost all unanimously agree that spanking is an unhealthy and less effective form of parenting. Hitting your kids is lazy parenting that doesn't solve any root issue or actually teach anything.
Like it's easier than ever to punish a kid worse without laying a finger on them. Find a kid and ask if they'd rather get a spanking or have no internet access, electronics like phones and games, etc. for a weekend. Then combine that with actually discussing things with your kid, actually teaching then what they did, why it was wrong, instead of some archaic "you did thing *hit* don't do thing again" which leads to no growth or even remorse, just feeling bad they got caught or got spanked.

The issue isn't that parents are lazily just hitting their kids, the issue is they've gotten even lazier and don't do anything period.

*nods*

AUSTIN, Texas The more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents and to experience increased anti-social behavior, aggression, mental health problems and cognitive difficulties, according to a new meta-analysis of 50 years of research on spanking by experts at The University of Texas at Austin and the University of Michigan.

The study, published in this months Journal of Family Psychology, looks at five decades of research involving over 160,000 children. The researchers say it is the most complete analysis to date of the outcomes associated with spanking, and more specific to the effects of spanking alone than previous papers, which included other types of physical punishment in their analyses.
