No, not really, but I've been listening to all my favorites of these a lot in the background while doing other stuff the last few weeks, and I thought it'd be a fun thing to do to pass the time. I'll be doing all these lists separately, and I'm just doing my Top 10 apiece. Side games are included (mostly for Pokemon's sake), though I have probably only played about half the Pokemon games that exist, so keep that in mind. Even with its plethora of tracks compared to these other series, they might be the weakest 10 of the bunch for me? The other 3 are about even with each other, I think. Yes, I like Advance Wars music just as much as Ace Attorney music, big whoop, wanna fight about it? I will be using different rules concerning these series, though. For Pokemon's sake, I will NOT be counting song remakes. Otherwise half my list would be Pokemon Masters songs, and that's no fun. That said, there's one Pokemon song that is kind of a remake. But it's an extreme niche case, and it's my list so fuck you. For Danganronpa and AA, there are remade songs, and if I like those better, those are the ones getting ranked. I did limit myself to one version of a given song on my list. I think there's only one case combined where I would want to include 2 different versions of one song, but I held myself back. When it comes to the Advance Wars tracks, I am absolutely including Reboot Camp versions, otherwise what's even the point of including them in here? Upon the song's reveal, I will also include which version I like the best between the original, remake, and remade CO Power version. And that's only if that song is in Advance Wars 1 or 2! There are future songs here as well! In terms of time, this might be the song I've listened to the most of any song on my list. And that's because I spent dozens upon dozens of hours perfecting Voltorb Flip. The SiivaGunner version mixed with Daft Punk is really, really good. Pursuit ~ Lying Coldly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JveQT6DfYk As bad as Ace Attorney Investigations is, the soundtrack is just sublime. Every time I hear one of my favorite tracks from the game, I instinctively think it's an AAI2 track because of how memorable it was. But nah, it's from this game I only played once all the way through, and it's still stuck in my head as if it's brand new. I really thought this was Pursuit 2, but it's actually just better than Pursuit 2. Mr. Monokuma's Lesson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELfxtdEakhk Monokuma's Lesson is a very rare instance of a song I post that I wouldn't ever listen to outside of the game. It's just.... too bizarre. But in context, this is the perfect theme for the series' most popular character. It encapsulates what Monokuma's all about. The first time I beat Dual Strike's campaign and it hit me with this fuckin' song, I was speechless. The beat comes in hard, and then the weird trance shit that pops in is just totally mesmerizing. I wonder how this song came to be. Was it a track they developed and had no idea what to do with, so they just threw it in for the credits? I really like the first 1:15 just fine, which is usually already more than you get to hear at any given moment in the actual game before it switches to some other song. But whenever I did play the main game, I always had to sing along to the intro. It's such a perfect 7-seconds worth of song that correlates perfectly with what the screen is showing. And then check out the fucking harmony on that Battle End. Every time I won, and the announcer's screaming "THERE GOES THE BATTLE" as this horn chord is blaring in my ear, that made me feel oh so very triumphant. God, I was easy to please growing up. ----- Investigation ~ Core 2002 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNPkCfUHgtI The best plot twist in the series needs a killer new music track to accompany it. I'm actually somewhere in the middle? Which means it doesn't have a lot of representation on my list. If you've never heard these before, do yourself a favor and listen to them in headphones. They do not translate well at all to speakers. I always preferred playing as Lin, because her theme went super hard. The dichotomy of the guitar with the..... I dunno what that instrument going all over the place for the first 20 seconds is. This track really instills the feeling that everyone around you is truly cheering you on. I get that his whole deal is that he takes it easy all the time, even when he's fighting, but it just betrays the idea that he's slaughtering a bunch of people from afar. X/Y Gym Leader Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQzl9_ja99s I skipped some generations of Pokemon there toward the end. I have a huge blind spot when it comes to gens 6-8. In order to see if I missed anything good, I did a quick checkup on the big 7: wild, trainer, rival, legendary, gym leader, elite four, and champion battles, starting with Sword/Shield and going backwards. Gens 7 and 8 whiffed for me, so going into gen 6, I was relieved I wasn't missing anything. But then I got to this. This is unlike anything I've ever heard in a Pokemon game. But I love it? And apparently people generally don't like it? I guess it's different enough that I understand, and maybe it just doesn't feel right in context, but I could listen to this for hours! I especially adore that melody from 0:33 to 1:50. ----- Cross Examination ~ Allegro 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LICY7XMIye0 The DLC case broke me. All I can think about when I hear this song is The Dissing of Phoenix Wright. I start bobbing my head just like he does. What has my life become. ----- Despair Searching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqv33YKku1c So uh, I've still got my headphones on from when I talked about Days of Ruin's soundtrack, and because of that, I'm just now noticing the bass in this song. Holy shit, this rules. I should've bumped this up to the top 10. Anyway, this is a very different vibe from the previous games' investigation themes. Instead of an overly frantic feel, this is jazzed out and calm. I was not good at this game as a teenager, so by the time I won, I was exhausted, mentally. This track came on, accompanied by a bunch of images that represented different parts of the campaign, and it truly made me feel accomplished. Like my troops had fought hard and earned that time of peace. I played PPL before I ever knew the 2.B.A. Master CD was a thing! I would play the puzzle mode, going through Richie's and Lorelei's levels, just so I could go in a Brock level and sit there for several minutes on end so I could listen to this uninterrupted! I learned to play it on the electric keyboard I had growing up! Even the panic version is amazing! Honestly, I'm shocked I'm only putting this at #5. The gap between this and Barry's theme is pretty vast for me. The top 5 on this particular list are all just that memorable. ----- 5. I was getting dunked on pretty hard, but a few tries into the Battle Tower, in comes Palmer with a sweet speech, and then holy shit what is this music?! I'm pretty sure it has the best track record for awesome moments in the whole series. To its credit, some of those scenes aren't nearly as awesome if they aren't accompanied by exactly this track. You think I'd care about Cody bawling his eyes out over some superhero shit otherwise? Of course not. But it still is an epic moment because of it. ----- 2. I enjoy just letting this theme wash over me. It fits the protag of V3 well, too. In the previous games, the main characters were really gung-ho about avenging their dead friends. V3's doesn't really want to be right about their deductions, and this theme protrays their general reluctance well. ----- 2. You'd need a similarly overbearing champion and somehow an even more tension-filled track. That's a really tall order. The crescendo from 0:28-0:39 is chilling. Someone made a Beat Saber map for this song, and it might be my favorite map to play of all-time. This tune has true multi-talent. ----- 1. OK, well, anyway, they got all the way through the first game and had started the second, I believe getting through the investigation phase of the third chapter, when Spike announced they were localizing them. Out of respect for them, they immediately stopped the Let's Play so people would be more likely to support the official release. You bet your ass I was in that GameStop (in retrospect, not sure why I'm surprised this was 15 years ago) day 1 to pick up my reserved copy. The lady behind the counter heard the name of the game and was just like... "uh, can you repeat that?" I played through the 2 1/2 case I knew well, got swerved by the emotional 4th case, and then absolutely blindsided by the reveal of the dead body in the 5th case. If that wasn't enough, as soon as those Investigation Phase words left my screen, this starts playing. Now, I already think Homicide is the best investigation music in the series, so when the guitar comes in so hot and heavy, I immediately stopped advancing dialogue just to take in what's happening in my ears. When 1:09 hit, I thought I was gonna faint from bliss. Little did I know I was about to jump into my single favorite murder mystery of all-time. Nagito, you absolute madman, you. ----- 1. I played through the 2 1/2 case I knew well, got swerved by the emotional 4th case, and then absolutely blindsided by the reveal of the dead body in the 5th case. If that wasn't enough, as soon as those Investigation Phase words left my screen, this starts playing. Now, I already think Homicide is the best investigation music in the series, so when the guitar comes in so hot and heavy, I immediately stopped advancing dialogue just to take in what's happening in my ears.
