i'm fine with the ban due to its ownership. if it's effectively spying, manipulation, and data harvesting, fair. but i do agree that if the government has info that's "classified" they should unclassify it and show it if they're bringing this up.

i also don't believe social media should be government regulated past laws that already exist for an open square. extra rules can be made by a company if they want but that's about it.

a basic idea of what the game is about works fine.
saying it's an adventure puzzle game, a space exploration game, and that there's a gameplay loop that unravels the story which is a large part of the game's appeal tells you enough details on the genre and its strengths well enough, without spoiling anything.

yeah when he mentions older vns i imagine it's gonna be looking at compatibility of games from like '02-16 which probably isn't gonna work out on everything. Windows is just gonna be easier on this. specific titles would be an easier way to handle this since people surely would've tried most of what's asked for.

as for screen, the oled is the only one that's competitive on that front between the darker blacks, 90hz, and 800p (which is fine at these sizes). 1080p and 120hz with vrr makes things a lot smoother on the ally over any of them, you don't need to worry about screen tearing, jitters, or any of that, it'll generally just "feel right." it's a bit smaller at 7" so if portability was the biggest aspect, it wins on that too. legion go's got by far the best screen with 1600p and 144hz on a screen way bigger than the rest. certainly not as portable but for visuals it's not losing that fight if it's a game you can do at 1440p, just compare the screen of a phone today with a phone screen of like 8 years ago and you'll know the difference. downside of course is that bigger screen means more weight but if portability is lessof a concern then it's a much stronger option, especially as it has essentially joycons for controls. biggest downsides go 1) no vrr (so the ally ends up smoother with games despite the lower refresh rate) and 2) it's the most expensive. did see it for around $550 but i also saw the Z1 Extreme Ally go for around $350-400 so... yeah, it's not worth that premium to me when they run the same chip inside.

technically the best of them all right now is the more recent Ally X but it also isn't really worth the premium since it's a minor refresh with tweaks over the Z1 Extreme. meanwhile the regular Ally Z1, aka the non-Z1 Extreme, is the biggest piece of trash in this market. their naming scheme sucks and it's like a 50% performance hit between the two.

was looking into these and was split between the Ally and the Legion Go, though the former needs a bit of paying attention to make sure it's the right chip inside (the names of all the Ally are confusing) and the latter's pricey. preferred both over a Steamdeck because i prefer running Windows over SteamOS for better compatibility across platforms and programs. i don't really trust SteamOS to run things as well or at all in some cases.

only categories the Steamdeck seems to really win on are those related to portability - weight, size, and battery life. screen, VRR when applicable, power, and compatibility go to the Windows machines.

actual refugees are ok, those seeking better opportunities are not. especially true if it's from the Americas considering how big a hand we've had in there, that's totally fair game. i think most are fine with the idea of hey, a Venezuelan or Ecuadorian refugee as opposed to a refugee from Ukraine or somewhere in the middle east - geographically it makes sense. people also are actually okay if it's women, especially those with children. people are very not ok with single, working age men showing up at a scale of like 8:1. i remember for a sec Italy floated the idea of essentially going we'll take all the women and kids but the single men can fuck off back home, unironically i think that's the closest ticket you'll find people accept. as long as the kids don't have a whole ass beard and are already balding, anyway.

Got friends and family in NY that voted Trump because they don't want their small businesses to get robbed, or run into homeless encampments that drive traffic away. These friends and family are actually first generation immigrants that have been here for decades.

NYC had a notable shift to the right. 22% in the Bronx and Queens each, 10% in Manhattan, still looking for Brooklyn numbers but if it follows the trend it's gonna be another double digit shift. yeah she still won the city overall with 68% but Biden had 76%. Hillary had 78%. a lot of that first generation might've already voted for trump but many more did this go too. the second generation is what's coming out more in his favor because they're like "fuck, my parents were right."

basically you know that plan the border states had of going "fuck this, we're busing the migrants to the cities and see how they like it"? yeah, that's extremely effective. people see what's put in their neighborhoods and the quality instantly drop, they don't feel safe anymore, and these places often weren't that great to begin with. the richer ones sure as hell ain't supporting who arrived and migrants get kicked out of there, meaning it's again the working and lower class neighborhoods who get hit with this. speaking of which, some of the people in those categories do use city benefits, rightfully so as it's paid into taxes. coincidentally, there's been a strange uptick of difficulty to get benefits as the migration has gotten worse, it's practically inverse lines. but people notice the uptick of illegal immigrants well just in daily life, look no further than the sheer number of pedicabs here - French is the primary language with English being non-existent. it's a total scam in pricing. almost nobody uses them, if even 5% get a single customer in a day i'd be shocked. but somehow they just can't stop popping up.

i think that historically tracks really. even with the UK, there's a constant trend that women on the right get to become PM. just internationally, if you're right wing woman you're electable to the highest office, if you're a left wing woman you aren't. obviously that some exceptions exist but that's by far the way that trend goes.

depends if the federal government wants to enforce it or not basically. they have greater power and greater ways to make the laws apply (e.g., interstate commerce clause). weed for example, is federally illegal but many states have made it legal. feds have said they aren't enforcing the law, so states are OK. it becomes very messy when they get involved like this, which is why they don't typically like to do it.

abortion would be the current hot topic that you might be referencing, national ban is a non starter. that's gonna be left to the states. it's the 2nd biggest issue for democrats, has repeatedly had the republican lose in head to head matchups since Roe was overturned, and they wouldn't have the numbers even with a majority of both houses. if they want to lose badly in 2026, having the conversation at all would be the way to do it.

no that part is still intact, there's a notable gender gap between men and women, especially in breakdowns that include race/ethnicity.

it's just that said gap is Trump +4 for white women. so there's a notable gap of like 15-20% between white men and women, hispanic men and women, and black men and women (unsure of asian, haven't seen yet and i can see that be far closer), but she just performed worse on damn near every racial/ethnic demographic. gender gap is still huge though!

Yeah. I actually undershot Trump in my prediction as well. I wasn't sure if the hate of Trump could outweigh the inflation.

i think the biggest limiting factor, and one i didn't expect to be a "we're too close to the sun," is the turnout. nobody here would've predicted that of the 81 million votes, 15-20 million would stay home. a little less sure, if you told me 75 mil voted i'd be like alright, down a bit but understandable, but instead it just fell right back into the block we had in 2016 and all the years before that. this is with a heavy push to early voting by both parties. total whiplash moment.

oh man now that he's back i just realized that LMS' postings and his attitude in here were actually 100% on point for the election results. he only was thinking harris could do it because people in here kept insisting she'd do it but generally he was scared of trump winning as an inevitability from what he was seeing.

considering the sheer amount he posted in here i refuse to believe that but i hope he does. if harris had won we'd have filled a topic of his twitter links alone. just hope he's doing alright.

LTM will eventually get back but first a very, very, very necessary break to play games, watch anime, or do anything not politics for a couple months. breaks are a good thing, especially when everything you thought crashed into a brick wall. options at that point are breath and readjust or double down and hopefully the former is taken.

also the issue with the goods being more expensive is that if they already are due to inflation, it doesn't matter. once you price something out of range, who cares if it doubles or triples, it's out of my range already so i'll be looking for something that is.

if the goods which become more expensive are those, that is when it'll be relevant. but if it's the shit i can't afford in the first place, zero impact.

Latino men shift seems to be the biggest shift towards Trump. Biden won by +23 in 2020 to +10 to Trump. Latina women went from +39 Biden to +24 Harris.

White men with a college degree went barely for Kamala actually, and white men with no degree Kamala did better than Joe from +42 to Trump in 2020 to +38 Trump.

The main takeaway to me is just the success he had with Latinos. Also the sheer lack of votes on the dem side.

i'm honestly half convinced that the whole white men and white women for kamala just backfired on them. especially the women, like there was supposed to be this huge gender gap between men and women but it just... doesn't seem to be there nearly as much.

latino vote is the biggest takeaway though. i'm not surprised by it, this feels more accurate. his 2016 latino vote was good too, long story short i'd put it as people going "2016 was better than 2020, migration crisis really is absolute hell and ruining it for those of us who got here legally, we're done." and, for better or worse, him having a family and her not is gonna be a major silent influence people won't want to acknowledge. for communities that have heavy emphasis on family, it hurts when you don't have one.

that's a terrible summary.
squirrel (Peanut) and raccoon (Fred) were both pets owned by a guy and they had a social media account for said pets here in NY, amassing a good half million. former had been a pet for 7 years now and was fully domesticated basically. since they were wild animals they were technically illegal to own but the guy, inspired by his squirrel, started up an animal sanctuary and going through all the paperwork to make them legally owned. animal control had come by a few times and they said everything was fine once they saw what was going on.

somebody complained about them.
4 agencies got a judge to sign off on raiding him.
both pets were killed.

state says they had to test for rabies because the squirrel bit one of the people in the raid but that doesn't make sense; squirrels 1) very, very, very rarely get rabies and 2) there are zero known instances of rabies transmitting from squirrel to human reported. zero. there was a study looking at CDC data from 95-2010 with over 21,000 squirrels tested: 22 had rabies. so to say it's rare is an understatement and the idea of human transmission is absurd because there's literally no instances of this happening, either US or globally.

so while people can be somewhat understanding of the raccoon (bigger, does get rabies, more dangerous) everyone's reaction to the squirrel is... it's a fucking squirrel the fuck are you doing ny government? it was a pet for 7 years with tons of footage of being just a pet. absolutely is a case of government overreach where none of the raid should've happened. he had already been talking to government officials, was already with paperwork regarding animal sanctuary, instead they went into the guy's home, hung around for hours, and killed his pets. zero good excuses, state murdered a pet squirrel for no good reason.

that aspect became a "MAGA Squirrel" thing online because people were going "wait NY has a migrant crisis happening and a lot of other issues but its priority was murdering a squirrel?" which doesn't need to be MAGA anything, it's an obvious case of government overreach definitely went too far and lefties should be equally pissed. justice for peanut.
