Think I'll just try get Tartaglia to 90 for now because these drop rates are horrendous. Killed 5 world level 7 Oceanids and not even seen a single purple ascension mat drop, nevermind gold. So crafting 6 golds purely from green and blues is gonna take a lot of kills

It's a slow process, but you also need a lot of the boss specific mats, and transforming one type of gemstone into another is fairly cheap, so you end up building up the ascension gemstones more quickly than you do anything else.

It just occurred to me, it's the Monday of the patch and we have no drip marketing. Maybe no one new in 3.4? Early speculation was Al-Haitham would be in it.

It's a pretty marginal upgrade. I normally wouldn't bother with the new domain just to improve Nahida, but I'm intending to roll Wanderer, so if I happen to pick up new pieces for Nahida on the way that would be fine.

Layla is too normal. There's probably something somewhere in her backstory that makes her notable, but she just seems like some random student.

The ideal team is Nahida/Nilou/Kokomi/Yelan. Barbara can sub for Kokomi in a pinch. Maybe XQ for Yelan. Nilou is really only compatible with her own Blooms, I don't think you should use her for anything else.

I like Noragami, and Hiyori was indeed a lot of fun. The first season of the anime had a mediocre filler arc, which brought it down a fair bit. Meanwhile the manga has felt like it's about to end for years, so kind of dragging there.

I acknowledge that the adaptation of Demon Girl Next Door is kind of by the numbers, but it's my favorite ongoing manga so I would definitely put the adaptation much higher. It is true that the first volume starts a bit slow, but the dynamic changes quickly enough that I wouldn't call it much of a negative. Would also put Momo in my top characters list, a bit above Shamiko even. Really like her more negative and cynical personality.

Anyway I'm hoping desperately for a season 3. The manga goes some wild places.

Wow I thought the Lucky Channel stuff was very unfunny. Surprising pick.

I do wonder if stuff like Lycoris and Kongming will keep as high a ranking on your list going forward, since they are quite recent and all.

I watched both seasons and I think the movie? But I don't have all that high an opinion of it, especially season 2. One of KyoAni's more forgettable productions.

It's complicated, and also the Higurashi spinoff that addressed some Higurashi-Umineko connections was so bad I recommend setting it aside entirely.

It's been a mixed and largely negative bag for a while now. I still read it just out of inertia.

I liked Lycoris but it struggled to engage with all of its different plot threads and none of them ended up concluding entirely satisfactorily. I agree the buddy cop setup was the main draw. I didn't really mind Majima so much but he was all over the place too as a result of the above issue.

I'm not that fond of 'slice of life' as a genre descriptor since I think it's frequently misused in that context. It does have the style of slice of life but I wouldn't say that has anything to do with whether it's a romcom or not.

And anyway the genre label for a romcom that lacks romance and comedy is just 'a romcom that is boring' as far as I'm concerned.

Komi is probably the best example of the mid romcom that I cannot feel any sort of attachment for.

Tsubasa Tiger is an incredible arc, and Yui Horie does a fantastic job as Hanekawa, so it's a good ranking. I do slightly prefer Kanbaru, as Hanamonogatari/Suruga Devil was really the peak of Monogatari in my eyes, but it's only very narrowly over Hanekawa. She's also really good post-Tiger with the hair change, but that was in the Sodachi arcs which I liked quite a bit more than you did.

I forget, have you said yet whether there's a chance to have multiple characters in your top 100 come from the same series? Obviously that's not the case here, but it probably would be for me, since I think your 13th would also be in my top 100, but is narrowly not my favorite from that series.

Is 105 the Endless Eight reference? That'd be quite low for Haruhi but I guess I can't rule it out.

106 is probably Land of the Lustrous?

The Fate/Zero anime is the best follow up. It's very well produced and has a good story and characters. It's also the only other Fate thing I can recommend mostly unequivocally.

That's a really high ranking for an anime that made me think 'that extremely mediocre manga I just read a week or two ago had an anime??' while I was making my MAL.

It's a sweet manga, I like it. Also maybe good if you're a fan of Chisato and Takina... as the character designer for Lycoris Recoil is the mangaka.

I'm fond of the manga for that one, but the adaptation looked weak so I didn't try it. One of the funniest manga I've read.

Seems pretty low, K-On's good. I particularly remember enjoying the movie.

This is, curiously, not very clear in the original VN, but made so with the PS3 graphics.

I thought this part of ep4 was hilarious the first time I read it, and then came to hate it for the rest of my Umineko experience.

I liked the manga for that until the main plot came in and got really rushed. The fortunetelling slice of life bits were all quite entertaining.

I think a lot of the established character groupings get a little tired, like Chinatsu with Yui or Sakurako with Himawari. It's good when different characters get to bounce off each other and that should maybe happen a bit more often. The dynamic of the main four is always funny enough though. Akari is also my favorite.

Especially in high-tension janken. That Akari is a true terror.

Oh, Hinako Note seems like it should have been another member of the club of unremarkable manga I read that I didn't know had an equally unremarkable adaptation.

Don't expect anyone on forums to have any sense of scale or proportion. Hearing a dissenting opinion is exactly the same as being a persecuted minority.

I have a lot of fondness for Madoka as a series, but the original show didn't actually grab me as much as expected. I felt like a lot of the main plot was a bit predictable. The aesthetics were striking though. Now, Rebellion was a different story, I loved Rebellion.

I'm just a bit under 400 rolls altogether, so I'm well set in case Nahida wants a higher constellation or something like that.

My problem with Tanya is the author obviously spends too much time on r/atheism and needs to chill a little.

Yona's very good, though it feels like it's dragging a bit lately. Really solid manga overall.

I was very disappointed by the retirement round, hence my decision to stop voting partway through it, but at least the winner is a reasonable choice. I hope the next contest is somewhat less disastrous though.

Once again feeling like I am missing cultural understanding here. This whole Angie school scene is bizarre. I can't tell if I am supposed to find an entire class forcing her into writing an apology for hours mysteriously odd or just normal abusive.

There's that, but you're actually also missing a little bit of Higurashi context on this one. The school Ange attends also appears in Higurashi, where it is similarly awful. Excessively so, true.

I guess I should at least vote in the finals. Fortunately it's an easy one.

Passing through the Forest

I've been putting together my own MAL, mostly focusing on TV seasons of anime for now rather than getting bogged down in movies and OVAs. It was kind of a funny experience to go season by season and correct some of my misremembering when shows aired, or discover that one or another mediocre manga I read recently had an anime a while back, or even multiple seasons, without me having known.

The exact count of anime is certainly well under your 275 though once you start combining seasons. Though sometimes it's hard to tell what should be counted as separate seasons or a separate anime altogether. Presumably something like Yugioh, which occupies a good amount of my list, would count as separate anime if I were doing my own ranking, but some of the classification can be fiddly.

I thought so as well, but there are some alleviating factors as you get into the Aranyaka quest line. There's an extra vendor for them that unlocks during that questline, so you can buy 10 every 3 days (including the one in Gandharva Ville). And a bunch of the mushrooms are actually in some of the caves you go into during the questline. So it went faster than I expected it to.

I have slightly different opinions on Slow Start but roughly the same conclusion. It's odd because it felt like a series I should have liked, but I ended up resenting the premise. Less so because I disliked Hana, which I didn't, but because it felt too much like she was the others' pity project at times, and Eiko was kind of aggressively perfect at everything. Tamate was fun though.

On the plus side someone has been translating Matazoro lately, which vaguely reminds me of Slow Start but it's way more of what I wanted. Random plug done.

It seems to me like a number of anime productions are last minute affairs with no margin for error, so although blaming COVID for the delay is technically accurate, it doesn't capture the full story.

I like magical girl stuff but everything associated with Magical Girl Site is so awful and gross I suspect that ranking is far too generous. Not that I would touch it to verify that.

That's certainly a ranking I disagree with strongly. I wouldn't be caught dead following Index, but I still keep up with the Railgun manga. Misaka is such a great protagonist. And her power is so much more than what you describe that I swear you must have been asleep during the 2nd season.

I've certainly disagreed with some previous rankings, but 'Misaka is fine but couldn't carry a show, unlike stellar characters Touma and Index' is the first opinion that I've found so utterly difficult to comprehend.

I want to use my recommendation on The Tatami Galaxy, being as it's my favorite anime, but it's in the unfortunate category of stuck on Funimation and who knows when if ever Crunchy will get to porting it. Maybe call it a tentative recommendation.

Mitsuboshi Colors was hilarious, especially Koto the actual psychopath.
