Durarara is long, but very good. And unlike Baccano, the anime is a complete adaptation. I highly recommend it.

I'm rarely disappointed in games, but one of the most recent examples of disappointment I recall was from Steins;Gate 0. It wasn't bad, clearly. And it had some parts that were really enjoyable. I wouldn't turn down more scenes with a bunch of likable characters. One of the biggest issues I had was the failure to properly utilize Amadeus as an effective character. That bothered me a lot. I also thought the tone of the plot reminded me too much of their other works, Chaos;Head and Robotics;Notes. It's hard to capture why, exactly, but I don't like those at all, so Steins;Gate 0 suffered by the similarity.

If she enters the battlefield under your control through any means except being cast from your hand, you lose. There are various ways that can happen. Meanwhile actually attacking with an expensive, scrawny creature is not that easy to do.

Momir Vig also probably contributes a lot to that. It's a Magic Online-only casual format where you play with decks of only basic lands and can generate a token each turn for some random creature in Magic with a specific mana cost. There aren't that many creatures that cost 7 and sometimes you hit Phage and lose.

I think the middle stretch is good and the best part. Once the game starts wrapping up is when it goes off the rails kind of badly.

Checkers is infinitely more difficult than Tic-Tac-Toe. The former might be simple, but you still have to react to your opponent and have multiple viable options on a given turn, for the most part. In Tic-Tac-Toe there is literally only one (discounting symmetrical moves) optimal move on any turn. Any amateur programer could write a function to perfectly play the game in ten minutes.

I don't know if I believe that there are multiple viable options on a given turn in Checkers. At the least, it is mathematically proven that optimal play on both sides results in a draw, according to Wikipedia.

Shogi actually is Japanese Chess. It's pretty cool. At least based on having watched March Comes in like a Lion and now feeling like some kind of shogi expert. And being a ranked shogi player can be a real job, yeah.

Then you would want to draft mono-black, or WB sometimes. Wicked Akuba was the key card for aggro in that format, basically. It was a strong deck if black was open. And you would know if it was, since only one deck can play that card easily. The format wasn't about aggro, but there was a good aggressive deck, and I had a reasonable amount of success drafting it when everyone else was trying to force UR. That deck is absurd when it comes together but everyone will fight you for Glacial Ray and that's really critical for the deck.

I have also drafted triple Champions limited on MTGO and think it is one of the best Limited formats ever. Extremely balanced and fun. I highly recommend it. Betrayers would be in the same league if not for Jitte.

EDIT: Not super important, but I'm also not sure why you bring up the part about Legendary being a downside mechanic. Maro has mentioned a few times regarding the Legendary supertype that it kind of sucks mechanically and it would have been better for the game if they didn't implement the legend rule like that in the first place. So I wouldn't give anyone any credit for continuing that awful tradition.

This is a signup topic for Mafia, based around the Persona series of JRPG games. The game will be hosted primarily on this board. I'm looking for 17 players, the more active the better. Note that since the flavor covers the whole series, there may be spoilers for any given game in the franchise. That said, I encourage anyone to join, whether they know the series or not. Flavor knowledge is not at all required to join the game.

The start date will obviously be dependent on once we get 17 players, but something like Monday night would be a natural start date, if I were to guess.

I'll pass, especially if you're still shooting for 17. Not interested in trying to balance work/life/mafia in a bigger game, same reason I didn't sign up for Tom/pez's.

That's too bad. At this point I'm pretty committed to 17. I think dropping down from 21 was ultimately good for the setup, but any lower and I would have to dismantle the game completely.
