Ultimately Ryukishi wanted to leave elements of the mystery and story not explicitly laid out so there was still room for theories even after he revealed the main strokes.

Did that work out? Well, he walked it back by putting solutions to everything in My Confession and the Episode 8 manga, so probably not.

But it's an interesting approach, and at least when I was reading it first, while the episodes were being released one at a time twice a year, I didn't mind at all. The difference in mindset between people who had months and months to do nothing but speculate and those who could move ahead after a few hours of reflection seems like it makes a big difference there.

Yes, I literally said 'I don't understand', thanks.

It's a satisfying comeuppance to force the criminal to admit his own guilt, as punishment for a character who you've been made to hate for their actions. I never chose Guilty so maybe the justification on that side is also good.

I admit I don't quite understand people picking Guilty for the final choice in 2-4. It just felt when I played it like the narrative really wanted you to choose Not Guilty and it was the stronger conclusion.

Anyway looking forward to your playthrough of Trials and Tribulations. I actually played it before any of the other games, because I found it used, but it remains my favorite by a large margin.

'Taiwan' is a bit cheaty from an in-universe perspective. Shannon could definitely know Kinzo grew up in Taiwan, because he would happily tell anyone about it who would listen. Most everyone who lives or has lived with Kinzo knows, but it's such common knowledge that they forget to inform the reader.

It is for all formats, I think (realistically just standard though), I just meant that the Pioneer bannings weren't reflective of that change in policy. Or perhaps the way Pioneer bans have been handled was a test drive for this change.

Pioneer's ban list was announced to be updated on a weekly basis at the inception of that format and is not reflective of other formats.

They did say they weren't sticking to an exact schedule for bans, but I get the feeling that's so they have room to handle particularly egregious mistakes more quickly in future.

I really wish Bump of Chicken made more openings for stuff, they do really good work. Karma from Tales of the Abyss is still a bop, and Hello World continues the legacy. The buildup of the opening is really great, I love some of the imagery in this opening a lot, from the scattered photographs zooming out and becoming the city skyline, to the action sequence at the big climax of the opening. It's very well done, all things considered.

March Comes In Like a Lion certainly benefits greatly from this, with a really strong first OP and ED both by Bump of Chicken. No list spoilers, obviously, but that is one of the very many good things about that show.

Yeah but all the Wheel of Time books are 700+ pages.

I enjoyed the series as it was going on, and it definitely took up a lot of my time, of which I had far too much growing up, so I appreciate it. The idea of going back though... Those were some dense tomes. I haven't thought about that series in a while, but it does have some nostalgic appeal.

Ah, Glass Mask. I read that quite recently. It's amazing, I was very disappointed that it was unfinished. It seemed so close to the end too, but at least that wasn't that much left hanging.

Anyway I'm not that familiar with much of this list, and the stuff I am familiar with I mostly wouldn't rank nearly as highly, but I was looking for something to read, and Worm seems like a good candidate.

When you're playing against green creature decks, the fair solution usually is to have access to a few wrath effects. There are plenty of <$1 rare wraths you could run in your Damia deck, for instance. Something like Crux of Fate or Languish would go a long way, just giving some immediate examples of cards that tanked in price after rotating out of Standard and should be easy to come by.

Goblins are harder to work with, and there's a natural disadvantage there. I have a hard time suggesting improvements to a goblins deck that would help while still remaining a casual deck. Blasphemous Act is the gold standard for red wraths, but is a bit of a liability for goblins.

I also had fun at mine Friday night. Played BG... midrange stuff, mostly. I had a bit of Food but nothing special. I managed a 4-0 still, off some good creature draws backed by a red splash for burn spells.

The format seemed fun and interesting though. The Adventure cards offer a lot of value. There was one spot where I made a block that looked normal to me, thinking 'well if they have a combat trick then I don't really care', but when that combat trick turns into a creature it's so much worse to do that.

I don't think it's very hard to understand why people like it. It's got a one-liner-slinging protagonist fighting magical monsters in a huge setting. It's easy to consume and enjoy, in a pulpy sort of way. It relies on cliches pretty heavily, but that's not such a bad thing. If you have expectations about how things will go and characters will behave, it's easy to just go along with that and not think about context.

I dunno about the 'this is where the series gets good' argument. I was meh on it until Dead Beat (the 7th book), which is genuinely great.

I enjoy the wide range of viable decks in Commander. I don't like as much how the default seems to be 2-3 hours of accumulating board presence and card advantage until someone sticks a game winning spell. That's what the RC tries to push as the right way to play, and I have grown unhappy with it myself.
