The thing is, Home isn't even launching until months after S/S. Every model doesn't even need to done by November. But by telling us this now, they're basically saying they won't even bother to keep working on it once S/S is done so a patch can come out when Home releases.

Lots of them probably use the same skeletons and no one would complain about reused animations for similar lookomg pokes.

I'm pretty sure it's more about the extra development time than hardware limitations

The truth is, we as fans have kept the bar as low as possible for pokemon, we honestly ask very very little. Give us a new region, give us new pokemon designs, and give us freedom to do what we want with our pokemon. We've accepted bad graphics, bad controls, bad ui, bad design, bad characters, gimmicks that become forgotten each gen. Basically bad everything but music has been showcased in the pokemon series, and we still buy pokemon games.

And Game Freak is STILL finding ways to lower expectations for the series after all these years. It's actually somewhat incredible how much worse each game can get from gen to gen.

People who have amassed a living Pokedex (a comprehensive collection of all Pokemon that they transfer from Gen to Gen) now have years and years of work sitting on a cloud meaning virtually nothing ever again.

People who want to play through the game a second time with a team of their favorites don't get to.

When/if Gen IV remakes come out, there will be extremely limited trading/battling compatibility between those and S/S.

Competitive implications obviously.

Some Pokemon aren't going to show up for years and years if the TCG is any indication.

When would region-specific forms ever show up again? Those are stuck forever.

Like... whether youve got all 800 collected in Sword of youve got all 800 living in Home... youve still got all 800 and theyre still just sitting in a file doing nothing. tbh that's pretty much what I pay for every gen. I get people being mad if they're into collecting and competitive battling and such, but I just want to have a sweet adventure with sweet new pokemon (and I've never used Home). Also electric corgi + swordwolf + raven is an amazing trio.

I'm a pretty casual pokemon fan, i've played every gen but I've skipped some like B2/W2 and I didn't even beat like half of them (I usually get to the elite 4 then stop)

I was already pretty lukewarm on S/S, the legendaries look dumb but the rest of the pokes look great, I even am kinda fond of the starters

but this news? this really kills my enthusiasm, same with my girlfriend. I'm happy we didn't preorder it. I have the dumb bank and even though I don't go crazy with collecting I had specifically taken everything I had from compatible games and put them in that fucking bank just so I could have a cool varied team for S/S. I even bred some babies to start out with.

at first I didn't think that was that huge of a deal but I've been sitting on it all day and my conclusion is that this is a huge bummer and as a person who is only kind of a pokemon fan I think I might be passing on this gen for a while. the dynamax thing being a really lazy CTRL+T of existing pokemon to make them bigger already screamed "we don't have enough time to do everything right" and this basically confirms it so why should I play this half-baked game when the next one will probably be 100x better like when X/Y improved going into S/M?

also let me say I always really liked this little comic, I saw it a few years ago and it always stuck with me:



I've never had an experience like this (a pokemon from ruby/sapphire gets traded through gens and winds up in or/as) but the idea is so inherently cool and exclusive to the pokemon franchise and the fact that something like this is possible always endeared me to the series even without me experiencing it myself

having this kind of put an end to that really breaks my heart

Yes, Pokemon fans can be brats sometimes, but we endured a lot and are still loyal to the series
As much as I am disappointed with they shitty animations, I will take it
I will take recycled dex enteries
I will take Pokemon not following you
I will take no Battle Frontier in ORAS
I will take no new Megas in Gen 7
I will take no new Alola forms in USUM
I will take a lot of other removed features
But not being able to use all the Pokemon? Yeah this is streching the line too much

Unless Home is something like Pokedex Pro 3D and more like Pokebank, they will just be ugly sprites sitting around
And the worst thing? Your shines will not even look like shinies, they will just have a res star next to them (at least that was in bank)

So apparently in famitsu, they say they're considering just having the animations/models they made for Sword and Shield just carry over to the next game and so on, so it does sound like they basically just started over and they'll be adding more back each game.

I don't really care much. Carrying over Pokemon from game to game has never mattered to me. The only part that really bugs me is the fact that you have to pay for their stupid transfer/storage system, but that's a problem that exists anyway, not a Sword/Shield thing

But from everything we've seen so far, they've just reused the models and animations that they've been using since X and Y. Even if they're going to redo the old ones and it just hasn't made it in the game yet, the new ones have to be as good as they're supposed to be and the old ones don't look out of place. Just keep the old stuff until you can get around to fixing it. It worked in Gen 4, so why not now?

And honestly, I don't trust GameFreak when it comes to which Pokemon are good enough. These are the people who cut Kotora twice. We're going to lose some really good stuff.

Why would you ever transfer shinies from Pokemon Go? The whole point of Pokemon Go shinies is to show them off in gyms. Unless they're duplicate shinies, in which case who cares if they're useless.

For me, all they really need to do is have battles in Home; treat it as the competitive hub (though they'd hopefully have a way to improve Pokemon incompatible with SwSh to some extent). Have a more simplified system visually for competitive battles, and I'll accept lightening the load for the more intensive adventure games.

This post really nails it. These cuts wouldn't seem so ludicrous if Sword/Shield wasn't somehow shaping up to be even lazier and more conservative than Gens 6 and 7.

Game Freak isn't leveraging the "console factor" at all here.

Like, whether you like dynamaxing or not, the raid battle aspect alone and that whole area is already much more than gen 6 or 7 attempted, so calling it lazier than those seems weird
