If a family member being LGBTQ makes you uncomfortable by default you're likely a bigot or prejudiced.

Which is what this survey was asking. It has nothing to do with 'radical ideas'

Not to offend, but I really think that lumping LGB with Trans people in a survey like this is going to skew the data. People are much less accepting of trans individuals than they are of gay and lesbian people. And this is coming from a member of the LGB.

I never understood why trans people are lumped together with gay/bi people under that umbrella acronym. Aren't the two concepts of liking the same gender and entirely changing your own gender, different enough to give them their own categories?

The idea is that the umbrella protects any orientation or identity different from the social norm of hetero/straight.

But a trans man who likes girls would identify as hetero/straight, no? Did you mean cis/hetero? In that case yeah, I think cis/trans and straight/gay are different enough to be separate qualifiers, not all lumped together.

Pretty sure no one has had a problem with sexuality preferences in the recent years.
Its usually those who scream transphobia at people who have personal and varying opinions on trans issues are almost immediately demonized.
Trans activists cry for acceptance and tolerance when they themselves will demonize anyone with slightly different opinions on subjects of genders, and how far is too far, like letting men play in womens sports.

I remember immediately after the supreme court legalized gay marriage the assessment of that practice and of gay people themselves rose in surveys like this.

The idea that the current administration demonizing people in the gay and trans community wouldnt have a similar effect in the other direction is quite silly.

millennials were raised in an environment of increasing tolerance towards gays and lesbians. same-sex marriage was legalized in massachussetts in 2004 at the same time many of us were coming of age, so generosity towards gay rights already had a foot-in-the-door with many members of the younger generation. however, there was and has been nothing comparable in trans rights, and many millennials still carry forward the same old prejudices against transgenders as their parents. as the the "LGB" has become more accepted, those letters have shrunk a bit into the background; and as the "T" grows as an increasing fraction of the pie, those prejudices become more and more stark in comparison, which causes support for the whole "LGBT" pie to shrink.

the truth is "60 genders" has always been a dumb fucking internet meme, but you'll still find people like Kyle1022 parroting this shit in bad faith. the same people who rightly argue against the evils of gay conversion therapy are open-eared to arguments that transgenderism is a mental illness and transgender people just need counseling to become "normal"; they're blind to the hypocrisy there. and the whole anti-transgender movement is co-opted by right-wing reactionaries with larger agendas, including anti-immigrant ethnonationalist types, anti-abortionists, etc.

I had to wait for a response to make sure I was reading that right. More namecalling and hate. I was honestly surprised on that one.

I go back and forth all day. Im almost always willing to have a way too lengthy conversation. As a bisexual person, I find myself increasingly annoyed with other LGBT people.

Everyone is so political now. People are so convinced that they are on the right side of history that they can't engage in a real discussion. It's all about tossing insults now.

Many people ITT are reacting so strongly and very blatantly disregarding any sort of nuance

Such as ....

"LGBT rights are fine, but I don't like this being aggressively shoved in my face"
"Oh so you think we should be treated like sub human trash?"
" I didn't say that, but ok"

Personally, I get very annoyed how over represented the ultra gay type (queen type gay dudes or butch women) are represented compared to the more traditional gender expression type gay people. It feels like more and more TV shows and movies will have a gay dude character that constantly screams "yyyyyaaaaasssss queen." It's such an annoying stereotype, but they sell this as progressive.

I've always felt weird around gay people, because I don't really fit that stereotyped mold. I've gotten backlash from gay people for appearing too masculine. I say forget them.

Nothing about being LGBT makes you less prone to being judgmental or discriminatory. Some of the most judgmental and discriminatory people I've met have been LGBT. When you realize they are just like everybody else then they don't look so different.

lol did you really get triggered and peace out over fucking nothing? give me a break. nothing i said was inflammatory, you just seem to be throwing around "inflammatory" at anyone who challenges your world-view. meanwhile the guy four posts up from you thinks a single woman making a youtube video and saying mean things about video games constitutes "vitriolic movement" and won't tolerate a dissenting opinion about it, but i guess that wasn't comment-worthy to you. you're right, the real intolerant people aren't folks like him, it's people who challenge your personal notions on subjects like race and gender. w/e dude.

the actual rhetoric is more like this:

society is transphobic
you were raised in society
therefore, it's reasonable to assume that you have internalized some transphobic ideas
it is also reasonable to assume that this might have an effect on your dating habits

rhetoric like that does not actually get used. you are misunderstanding it, either intentionally or due to your own ignorance

What happens when it does get used and legitimately liberal and left wing people like Joe Rogan and Tim Pool get labeled alt-right? Surely that's not getting people from the non-conservative side to be annoyed with you?

You realize there are people who are neither liberal and left or right. I'm sorry but Joe Rogan isn't left-wing. Not anymore. Yet I will defend him any time someone dares to call him alt right as that is bullshit.

Name calling is easy, blame is easy. The reality of the situation ISN'T easy.
