And in response to what both of y'all said, it's not that I feel the community itself and the people here are toxic. On the contrary I've had some great times and great interactions with people on here. It's just that the nature of this place and other forms of social media really easily enable the worst qualities of myself.

I stopped posting on Facebook (still go for shit posting groups). But my mental health definitely has improved by not getting into political arguments.

Yeah it's a few things I picked up on (and my shrink too)

The two big ones I've noticed recently are with political/cultural shit and with all that Work Girl stuff I've been spewing out.

In both those cases the ability to legitimize every argumentative or insecure or wacky thought really spirals me out into some bad shit.

Having had a constant "companion" most of my life in CE and to a lesser extent Reddit/FB it's honestly like I've lost my inner voice if that makes sense. Like I don't know how to work through shit on my own in a healthy manner and any issue in my personal life or grievance with culture/society I have will never get resolved so I just keep looping back around with everything constantly.

Out of curiosity, how do you now occupy yourself in the absence of curated content?

Read, play games, work on projects, go out, spend time with family/friends, lie around with my own pesky intrusive thoughts, etc

Noticed how it was bringing out the worst impulses in me and making me... weird.

Figured it was time to ditch it and maybe try for some self improvement.

Deleted FB off my phone, same with Reddit. No Snap or Tiktok or anything either.

Only kept CE but even then it's like eh. I'm an addictive personality and I feel like the ability to just stream off any old thought that pops into my head is enabling some pretty weird and toxic shit in me.

Deleted my other apps and stuff, I'm back to seeing a shrink, and I'm making more of an effort to actually get out and do shit (as much as I can during a -30 winter during COVID lol). Maybe this is the next step? Iunno I've been coming here since I was like 13 (so like over half my life) so it feels weird to just try to jump away.

It's two sided

On the one hand, speculation and theorizing in stuff like Wandavision or w.e. was more fun than the actual show itself.

On the other hand, you have people spending a lot of time and energy building their own theories and story directions up and it all falls apart when the actual product doesn't live up to this elaborate thing they built up in their head

Tbh when Luke showed up at the end of S2 and it was literally the only thing people would talk about when the finale would come up, I was worried that that's what the franchise would devolve into.

The fact that they got people as hyped for Din, Grogu, Cobb, Cad Bane, and Ahsoka as they were for someone like Luke is very encouraging
