You shouldn't start with any Ys games because they all suck

They have mostly been very mediocre games so I wouldn't know which one to recommend as an entry point. Memories of Celceta was alright but I wouldn't say it was great or anything.

Ys VIII is such an overrated game though. I had to force myself to finish the game. Tried the series again with Ys IX multiple times and most recently I tapped out around the 10th hour. The game was so similar in structure to Trails of Cold Steel but the dialogue had like no soul in it and it had all the monotonous aspects of Ys VIII like the mind numbingly boring raids/tower defense crap which repeats like crazy. The Monstrum powers were cool but the execution feels a little too janky for me to have fun traversing around. After a while I felt the same way I did about VIII and even more so I put the game to rest permanently.

You mean this part? I think they expect you to somehow wall-jump on the very small part between the spikes and the ceiling
Of course you have like 90% chance of fucking that up
And then when the ceiling finally goes up you need to land a perfect dash jump because it's not high enough so you can bump your head into it and make X fall down instead
It's terrible

X6 is by far the worst Mega Man X game or maybe even in the entire series including spin-offs. X7 is bad but I liked some of the ideas there and the attempt at a 3D game despite its poor implementation. X6 on the other hand was almost unplayable because of how badly designed it was and I can't say that for any Mega Man game.

Like the ones mentioned in the topic

Trails of Cold Steel IV
Trails in the Sky SC
Metal Gear Solid 4

Then others off the top of my head would be

Mass Effect 3
Shenmue III
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
Zero Time Dilemma
Xenosaga Episode III
Persona 5 Strikers
Zone of the Enders: The 2

Bad games and a terrible representation to their series

Devil May Cry 2
Dragon Age II
Assassin's Creed (although the series itself is not that great)
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Ninja Gaiden 3

I find season 2 to be weaker than even New Frontier and Final Season. This is also when Telltale started streamlining their game so much that there is barely any gameplay in their games. Judging the game by the story itself also, it feels like a filler epilogue rather than a sequel.

Never said it was like FFXIII other than how on the rails it was. The sense of progression in Live a Live is worse because it is 7 different stories (and an 8th to tie it all in) and feels more like a compilation of mini-RPGs than a full blown experience. Without giving too much away, there are certainly areas in the game which are unique and done well but at the same time there are sections where the mechanics of the game just don't work well at all.

AJ is absolutely not as bad as how the fanbase makes it out to be and is well worth playing through at least once. It is the weakest game in the mainline series but not by a gulf between it and the rest of the games. 4-2 and 4-3 are very weak cases but 4-1 and even as flawed as 4-4 is, are entertaining enough for at least a first playthrough. If you can get through a case like 2-3 and something with horrible pacing like 1-5, you'll be fine here.

I find AJ to be at least better than Ace Attorney Investigations 1 and Layton vs. Phoenix.

Yeah but I've heard 7th Saga is a brutal ordeal and my experience with Evermore is largely miserable. This at least seems to be liked by most people who played it.

Live a Live is quite a divisive game too, and rightfully so. The concept was interesting which is why I checked out the game in the first place. However its execution leaves a lot to be desired. The grid battle system can be hit or miss and it is a huge miss for me. Another thing is people complain about FFXIII being an on the rails RPG, just wait till you play this game then.

No. It just seems you take every opportunity you can get to say something like that, which I have been ignoring till now because it is after all just a video game message board.

I'm giving my honest opinion on something that I have played and beaten whether it be negative or positive. And this would have been ok if it was OP refuting whatever I had said but for you to come in a take a jab when like you have countless times over countless topic is getting a bit weary for me.

It is an Ok game for its time. Not a 'fantastic' game that 'everyone' should get like OP states. All the sudden hyperbole love that a so so game is getting showered is amusing just because it is getting a remake and localization after over two decades. This really shows how people jump on a bandwagon when it comes to these things.

Stuff like 7th Saga and Secret of Evermore will likely also get the same treatment if this happens. A fresh coat of paint doesn't suddenly make an ok or simply a good game from its time an all time classic all of a sudden.

I think the only consensus thing with Mass Effect is that Citadel is the absolute best stretch in the series.

Nope. Suicide Mission, Lair of the Shadow Broker and a lot of the things in base ME3 outrank it. Citadel is nice but the main mission with fake Shepard is really not that great.

Also while I agree with 2 > 3 > 1 >>>>> A, I don't think it is the consensus considering more people rank 1 > 3.

Sad thing is I see a skeleton of a game that could have taken the franchise to new heights but GameFreak chose to be cheap despite being one of the richest video game companies. I think the fact that they chose to release two games within a span of less than 6 months made them half-ass some of the aspects in this game. They could have fully committed their resources to this one game and it could have been something truly special.

But why do that when they can make more money with a half-assed remake and a non fully committed "next big title". Regardless the fans are gonna buy Superman 64 quality games if it had the Pokemon logo slapped on it.

Game is fun. Probably the most fun I've had with Pokemon since Black/White. In comparison to the other great games I've played a few months ago like Shin Megami Tensei V though, it is not even close to that level. As an open-world game? Calling it BotW lite is really giving it too much credit.

So while this is definitely a step in the right direction for the series, it is certainly not a game that has taken the franchise to new heights like how BotW, Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread and Fire Emblem: Three Houses did.

Let's see if the game changes my mind by the time I'm done but so far the gameplay loop is also slowing diminishing my interests.

It is baffling that Legends: Arceus does not have VAs. It is the first thing I expected when I tried out the game last night because Sword/Shield really needed it and I believe this game could have made a statement with even somewhat decent VAs.

GameFreak has all the budget in the world to not be this cheap yet here we are again. Graphics look worse than BotW (a game that came out 5 years ago) but otherwise the game feels fun to play at least. I'm not making judgment on the game yet. A game more than anything needs to have that hook factor for me, whether it be gameplay or story so graphics and no VAs can be forgiven if the game itself is competent enough to be compared with some of the amazing games that have come out in the genre over the last few years.

Probably World of Warcraft from back in the day, even though it should be reasonably lower than most players who get hooked to it, that and it being cumulative over the years.

As far as non-online multiplayer goes it's single-player RPG without question

Top 5 would be (no sufficient data but just an estimation from the amount of times I played the games and the actual length of the games)
  1. Final Fantasy VII
  2. Final Fantasy VIII
  3. Persona 4 + Golden
  4. Persona 5 + Royal
  5. Dark Souls

Most replayed games would probably be
  1. Metal Gear Solid
  2. Resident Evil 4
  3. Final Fantasy VII
  4. Final Fantasy VIII
  5. Super Mario World
